Signs of the Times
Let's imagine for a moment you wanted to
take over the world, but rather than sitting at home with a job
that barely puts food on your
Having learned a thing or two from the communications experts putting together the package you are selling to the public, you would want a good brand name to apply to your enemies, something like the, say, "Axis of Evil". It's short and to the point, easy to remember, and clearly establishes that they are "Evil". "Terrorist" is also a good label to stick on someone or some group because it is vague. It spans all nations and languages. Anyone could be a "terrorist". Next you would fabricate a list of your target's chief sins, the reasons they are such a clear and immediate threat to your citizenry. Accusing them of stockpiling weapons of mass destruction might work; chemical weapons, like noxious powders that could be released into the air anywhere, anytime, that could come from anywhere, would also make a good excuse. You could also accuse them of being crazy enough to strike at any moment, and of backing other groups who were your enemies, portraying them as subhuman. You would let slip through anonymous sources that "plans" were being drawn up to attack your citizens at home, that several of these plans had been intercepted and the guilty arrested, without ever offering any evidence or proof of your claims. Although this sounds outlandish, with close contacts in the media, you could count on these accusations being repeated ad nauseum without any critical commentary. That still might not ensure a rallying of the population for war. However, organising a brutal attack that could be blamed on your target might do the trick. It worked in 1964 with the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Allowing the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor worked in turning public opinion 180° in an instant in December 1941. Who's to say it wouldn't work again? Admittedly, the above scenario is far-fetched. You'd have to be either crazy or a complete psychopath to think in such terms. Not surprisingly, the perpetrators of such plots count on that fact. We just don't think like they do. One of the illusions that good people need to shatter is that "their government" wouldn't engage in the kind of dastardly deeds that "terrorists" are willing to carry out in order to obtain their goals. Of course, there are a goodly number of people who think that "their government" should do such things because it is the only way to stop the bad guys. However, today we'll leave those deluded souls aside and focus on some basic elements of counter intelligence. In an article reprinted below from The Washington Post, we find the following quote from Porter Goss in 1998: Goss emphasized the need to realign U.S. intelligence capabilities, once arrayed primarily against the Soviet Union, to combat global terrorism. You can find little gems when you go back and read old articles such as this, comments that at the time might have slipped by, but which, with the benefit of hindsight, take on a new meaning. Back in 1998, Porter Goss was already stoking the "terrorist under every bed" fear in spotting "global terrorism" as the next area in which the CIA should focus its "intelligence capabilities". He is the current CIA director, appointed by the very people who have made "the war on global terrorism" the new crusade, and who, we should add, are the ones responsible for so much of today's "global terrorism". Is this a little clue that suggests that the current agenda was being planned years before 9/11? Or is that something that only a dyed in the wool conspiracy theorist could envisage? Defenders of the new Reich would simply respond that it shows Goss is the right man for the job, that already in 1998, he understood the threat facing "America". If we didn't have the mountain of evidence that shows that 9/11 was an inside job, that the neocons have been announcing since the mid-nineties their plans to remake the Middle East in such a way as to create a "Greater Israel", with the possible unleashing of a devastating war, nuclear or not, in the area, that all of the so-called evidence against Saddam and his weapons of mass destruction was faked, that Israel has a nuclear arsenal and is working to prevent any other country in the region from obtaining them for themselves, that the bombings of the US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya have many unanswered questions about them, plus evidence that points to US or Israeli intelligence involvement, if we didn't know that there is serious evidence to suggest the bombing in Oklahoma City was also the work of elements in the government, that British intelligence sent operatives into Irish republican groups to incite violence and "terrorism", that there is much evidence that suggests the bombings last summer in London were an MI5 operation, well, if we didn't know any of this, then perhaps, just perhaps, we could think Goss's statement was an innocent remark and agree with the observation that Goss is the right man for the job, being all prescient about the danger of "global terrorism". However.... We know that intelligence services of all countries "infiltrate" opposition groups, when they do not set them up themselves. It is an age-old trick for an agent provocateur to enter a group and push it to commit illegal acts in order to destroy the group. It is an age-old trick to carry out a horrendous act and then blame it on your enemies in order to rally public opinion against them. It is an age-old trick to learn about an intended attack and then do nothing to stop it in order to rally public opinion against the enemy. All of these are part of Counter-Intelligence 101. Really basic stuff. In the document "Counterinsurgency Manual", freely available at the website of the helpful folks at the US Army, we read: MISSION OF PSYCOHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS Note well: "Behavioral change is at the root of the PSYOP mission." Do we think that these strategies are not being used on people in the US and other Western countries? The unanimous war-mongering on the part of the US media prior to the invasion of Iraq is an excellent example. Only now, after it is too late, are the "most respected" newspapers such as The New York Times having second thoughts. Where were they three years ago? Trumpeting the need to blow Saddam away. One can surmise that if, today, they have hesitations, it is only to foster another plan of deception. So the mainstream media works on one level of Counterintelligence. The manipulation of groups that are hostile to the US is another level. An example from occupied Palestine is Israeli support for Hamas back in the eighties when Israeli leaders considered Hamas to be a counter-weight to Arafat's Fatah movement. (As an aside, you all remember Arafat, the man denounced for years in Israel and repeated with great care in the US media as being the obstacle to peace, the one person blocking the signing of a peace agreement? Notice how the Israelis are still refusing any form of peace? The slander campaign against Arafat was a psyops mission, a very successful one at that.) Israeli dollars, or should we say, American dollars funnelled through Israel, went to support Hamas. Are we so naive to think that Israeli agents were not being placed in Hamas at the same time? That members of Hamas were not being turned to work for Israel? Is it not extremely convenient that whenever support for the Palestinian struggle begins to mount in the West, another so-called "suicide bomber" is called into play to remind us all of how bloodthirsty those Palestinians really are? Counterintelligence and counterinsurgency operations. Fighting for the minds of your enemies, and wouldn't that include the home population if they weren't already gun-ho to support your agenda? |

CBC News Three senior al-Qaeda members, including
one with a $5-million US bounty on his head, were among those
killed in a U.S. airstrike in a Pakistani village, say Pakistani
authorities.
The attack last week on Damadola, near the Afghan border, was aimed at Ayman al-Zawahiri, second in command to Osama bin Laden, they said late Wednesday. It also killed 18 civilians, sparking angry protests in several locations as well as a formal protest by Islamabad. Al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian national, has eluded capture since the Taliban was overthrown in Afghanistan in 2001. He's considered the ideological mastermind behind the al-Qaeda network, and is wanted by U.S. authorities for his alleged role in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. Pakistani authorities say one of the dead from Friday's attack is believed to be a son-in-law of al-Zawahiri, Abdul Rehman Al-Misri al Maghribi, who is responsible for al-Qaeda's media department. Another was Midhat Mursi al-Sayid 'Umar, an expert in explosives and poisons who was the target of the $5-million bounty. A third man has been identified as Abu Obaidah al Misri, al-Qaeda's chief of operations in Afghanistan's dangerous Kunar province. The U.S. military denies knowledge of the strike. However, American media are reporting it was carried out by the CIA. Comment: Having killed
18 innocent civilians, the US has to play up the high profile
deaths they are claiming.
As for Al-Zawahiri's role in the bombings in Dal es Slam and Nairobi, here's a different point of view. |

13 August 1998US government, Israeli intelligence had advance warning
The search for survivors of the bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi, Kenya ended officially at 10 a.m. local time Wednesday, with the death toll set at 247, and 5,436 injured. Another 10 people died and 70 were injured in the simultaneous bombing of the US embassy in Dar es-Salaam, in neighboring Tanzania, bringing the combined death toll to 257.
The gruesome task of fully excavating the blast site and recovering the remaining bodies continues. At least three Kenyan employees of the embassy are still missing, along with an unknown but likely much larger number of victims in the rubble of the Ufundi House, next door to the embassy.
Several hundred FBI and American police bomb site investigators have flooded Nairobi, cordoning off the area around the embassy and beginning efforts to determine the type of explosive used in the huge blast, as well as identifying the vehicle, believed to be a pickup truck, which delivered it. An official report on the techniques used in the explosion is not expected for many months.
What information has been made public in the international press, however, raises disturbing questions about the circumstances leading up to the bombing and the role of US and Israeli intelligence agencies.
Several US and Israeli sources, including ABC News and the Tel Aviv newspaper Ha'aretz, reported Wednesday that a US informant in Kenya had warned the American government two weeks before the blast that the Nairobi embassy had been targeted for a bomb attack.
The informant was a contact of Israel's Mossad intelligence service, but when American officials checked with Mossad about the reliability of the source, they were advised to treat the report with skepticism. No special security measures were taken at the embassy.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to comment on the Ha'aretz article. But the Israeli government's dismissal of this advance warning may account for its extraordinary effort to supply bomb experts and rescue teams in the wake of the bombing, for reasons which have not otherwise been explained.
A second warning was provided four days before the explosion, according the Nation, the English-language daily newspaper published in Nairobi. A security guard working near the Nairobi embassy saw a man videotaping the building, protected by two bodyguards. When the cameraman saw he had been observed, he and his escorts jumped into a car and sped away. The security guard reported the incident to guards at the embassy, who seemed uninterested. Even though, according to ABC News, all American facilities in the Middle East and South Asia had been put on security alert against a threatened terrorist attack, no special security measures were ordered in East Africa even after the second report.
Most accounts of the bombing in the American press have named a Saudi exile, Osama bin Laden, as the most likely suspect. Bin Laden, a construction multi-millionaire, is an Islamic fundamentalist opposed to the US military presence in Saudi Arabia during and since the 1991 Persian Gulf war. He fled Saudi Arabia in 1994 and reportedly now lives in Afghanistan.
But according to several of the reports, bin Laden was associated with the CIA-backed mujahedin guerrillas during their war against the Soviet military occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s. Among these were the CIA-trained terrorists who later were convicted in the bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City.
The attitude of American officials to the investigations by Kenyan and Tanzanian police is also curious. After Tanzanian officials arrested several dozen people in Dar es-Salaam, the State Department belittled the action as little more than a roundup of "the usual suspects." The announcement by Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi that an unspecified number of suspects had been arrested in Nairobi was also dismissed as unlikely to represent an advance in the investigation.
The New York Times reported claims of some eyewitnesses in Nairobi that the truck used in the embassy bombing had American diplomatic license plates. Another eyewitness claimed that the man who leaped from the truck and threw a hand grenade just before the bomb blast was wearing a blue uniform identical to that worn by embassy guards.
Even more striking is a report carried in the Washington Post Wednesday, based on a leak from the CIA in which the agency claimed to have foiled two recent attempts to bomb American embassies in the Middle East. The Post article quotes Robert Oakley, the former State Department coordinator for counterterrorism, on the US efforts to infiltrate terrorist groups targeting American facilities.
According to the Post: "He recalled an episode in the mid-1980s when U.S. intelligence recruited a terrorist who had been assigned to bomb an American embassy in Europe. The putative bomber, Oakley said, was allowed to detonate a bomb inside the embassy compound in such a way that little damage was done, far removed from US personnel, so that his relationship with US intelligence was not exposed."
Taken together, these reports raise the possibility that the horrific loss of life in Nairobi and Dar es-Salaam may be linked, directly or indirectly, to covert operations by US intelligence agencies, in which individuals with past CIA connections but present grievances against the US government, such as the former Afghan mujahedin, were involved.
Such questions are not even considered in the American media discussion of the East African bombings, in which major newspapers and television networks are vying to supply one or another Middle East nation as a potential target for US military retaliation.
The New York Times suggested Libya as a target in its Wednesday news pages, while an editorial vilified Iraq. The Washington Post added Syria and Islamic fundamentalist groups based in Yemen and Egypt to the list.
The Wall Street Journal published a column the same day denouncing the Clinton administration for ignoring evidence that Iran was behind blasts, and declaring the attack on the embassies "an act of war." The Journal cited US bombing raids on Libya in 1986, ordered by Ronald Reagan, as an example for Clinton.
Another column in the Journal, by its Washington correspondent, revealed that the Pentagon changed the composition of US forces in the Persian Gulf region after last February's confrontation with Saddam Hussein, so that a protracted buildup would not be required before launching air strikes against targets in Iraq. Such attacks could be launched against Iraq--or any other target in region--literally overnight.
Comment: Talk about "the ususal suspects"! We've got Osama and Iran already back in 1998. Of course, the Bush propagandists will tell us that they have been a danger all along, and if only we had listened to them back then....
The other explanation is that the agenda of moving in and overthrowing Iran has been a long-term plan of the neocons and Israel, a plan that has finally been moved to the front burner. The link to Osama was most likely part of the set-up for 9/11. Get the guy on the map, blame him for a few terrorist attacks, so that when the Big Day came, he was the plausible suspect.
Notice, as well, that Israel once again had advance warning. Think back to Netanyahu's visit to London on July 7 when he was advised to stay in his hotel. Think back to the warnings sent to Odigo employees at the WTC prior to the 9/11 attack.
Coincidence? We think not.

Tuesday, August 11, 1998; Page A16CIA operatives foiled two attacks on U.S. embassies last year in advanced stages of planning and disrupted three other incipient plots after infiltrating terrorist cells and by monitoring and intercepting electronic communications, administration and congressional sources said yesterday.
In the wake of twin terrorist bombings of U.S. embassies last week in Kenya and Tanzania, the sources refused to provide details about the locations of the intended targets of the 1997 attacks, or how they were uncovered and undone, for fear of tipping terrorists to U.S. intelligence-gathering capabilities.
But the sources suggested that intelligence successes, both in preventing embassy attacks and aiding in the arrest of more than 40 suspected terrorists since 1993, may have contributed to the decision by whoever was behind Friday's bombings to pick the embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, both of which were deemed low security risks by the State Department.
The prevention of the two more advanced plans aimed at U.S. embassies was first disclosed to Congress by CIA Director George J. Tenet last year. He gave no further details and did not mention the three other plots unraveled by his agency and cited by officials yesterday.
The two more advanced plots, sources said, did not involve embassies in Africa.
"If you go beyond the target of embassies to American facilities and personnel, it is a very long list of bad things that have been prevented from happening by good intelligence that was properly acted on," said Rep. Porter J. Goss (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence and a former CIA case officer.
Comment: Porter Goss is the current, Bush-appointed Director of the CIA.
Robert Oakley, former State Department coordinator for counterterrorism, said yesterday that elaborate means are used to infiltrate terrorist groups targeting U.S. facilities. He recalled an episode in the mid-1980s when U.S. intelligence recruited a terrorist who had been assigned to bomb an American embassy in Europe. The putative bomber, Oakley said, was allowed to detonate a bomb inside the embassy compound in such a way that little damage was done, far removed from U.S. personnel, so that his relationship with U.S. intelligence was not exposed, Oakley said.
"They work hard at it," Oakley said of the CIA's embassy security efforts. "But as Tenet has said this year, we rely too much on technical intelligence and we don't have enough human intelligence out there -- and the terrorists are getting sophisticated about evading our technical intelligence."
Since the bombings, State Department officials and members of Congress have called for substantial funding increases to bring most or all U.S. embassies up to security standards recommended in the mid-1980s by a panel on diplomatic security headed by retired Adm. Bobby Ray Inman.
Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.), ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, yesterday wrote to Albright that "it is imperative that we redouble our efforts to ensure that our employees are adequately protected."
But beyond the so-called Inman standards, which call for 75-foot setbacks from the street and nine-foot walls at all embassy compounds, Goss emphasized the need to realign U.S. intelligence capabilities, once arrayed primarily against the Soviet Union, to combat global terrorism.
He also noted that the Clinton administration had significantly cut back on the number of CIA stations operating in Africa. However, a senior intelligence official noted that both Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were not among the capitals to lose an intelligence presence.
"If you cut back on your coverage of intelligence, are there consequences?" Goss asked. "I would say . . . yes. And I would say that is something that somebody who has the oversight responsibility for intelligence will be looking into."
The bombings in East Africa Friday have triggered one dozen to two dozen new threats telephoned in to U.S. installations, said Patrick Kennedy, assistant secretary of state for management.
Intelligence sources with knowledge of the CIA's work last year circumventing attacks on embassies said every agency success breeds a change in tactics by terrorist groups, which often spend as much time studying the CIA as the agency spends studying them.
The result, the sources said, has been tighter compartmentalization of terrorist operations, where cells responsible for planning an attack don't know who assembles the explosives and those building the bombs don't know who will detonate them.
"You're going up against such rigid compartmentalization," said Charles Englehart, a former CIA station chief in the Middle East now working for Kroll Associates, a large private investigation agency. "One of the things you're doing is, you're always looking for threats against the embassy. You've got the high-profile ambassador moving around. You've got the Peace Corps people running up the road in tribal areas -- you're always looking for a threat."

NY Times 18 Jan 2006 WASHINGTON - A high-level intelligence
assessment by the Bush administration concluded in early 2002 that
the sale of uranium from Niger to Iraq was "unlikely" because of a
host of economic, diplomatic and logistical obstacles, according to
a secret memo that was recently declassified by the State
Department.
Among other problems that made such a sale improbable, the assessment by the State Department's intelligence analysts concluded, was that it would have required Niger to send "25 hard-to-conceal 10-ton tractor-trailers" filled with uranium across 1,000 miles and at least one international border. The analysts' doubts were registered nearly a year before President Bush, in what became known as the infamous "16 words" in his 2003 State of the Union address, said that Saddam Hussein had sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. The White House later acknowledged that the charge, which played a part in the decision to invade Iraq in the belief that Baghdad was reconstituting its nuclear program, relied on faulty intelligence and should not have been included in the speech. Two months ago, Italian intelligence officials concluded that a set of documents at the center of the supposed Iraq-Niger link had been forged by an occasional Italian spy. A handful of news reports, along with the Robb-Silberman report last year on intelligence failures in Iraq, have previously made reference to the early doubts expressed by the State Department's bureau of intelligence and research in 2002 concerning the reliability of the Iraq-Niger uranium link. But the intelligence assessment itself - including the analysts' full arguments in raising wide-ranging doubts about the credence of the uranium claim - was only recently declassified as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch, a conservative legal group that has sought access to government documents on terrorism and intelligence matters. The group, which received a copy of the 2002 memo among several hundred pages of other documents, provided a copy of the memo to The New York Times. The White House declined to discuss details of the declassified memo, saying the Niger question had already been explored at length since the president's State of the Union address. "This matter was examined fully by the bipartisan Silberman-Robb commission, and the president acted on their broad recommendations to reform our intelligence apparatus," said Frederick Jones, a spokesman for the National Security Council. The public release of the State Department assessment, with some sections blacked out, adds another level of detail to an episode that was central not only to the debate over the invasion of Iraq, but also in the perjury indictment of I. Lewis Libby Jr., the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney. In early 2002, the Central Intelligence Agency sent the former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV to Niger to investigate possible attempts to sell uranium to Iraq. The next year, after Mr. Wilson became a vocal critic of the Bush administration's Iraqi intelligence, the identity of his wife, Valerie Wilson, a C.I.A. officer who suggested him for the Niger trip, was made public. The investigation into the leak led to criminal charges in October against Mr. Libby, who is accused of misleading investigators and a grand jury. The review by the State Department's intelligence bureau was one of a number of reviews undertaken in early 2002 at the State Department in response to secret intelligence pointing to the possibility that Iraq was seeking to buy yellowcake, a processed uranium ore, from Niger to reconstitute its nuclear program. A four-star general, Carlton W. Fulford Jr., was also sent to Niger to investigate the claims of a uranium purchase. He, too, came away with doubts about the reliability of the report and believed Niger's yellowcake supply to be secure. But the State Department's review, which looked at the political, economic and logistical factors in such a purchase, seems to have produced wider-ranging doubts than other reviews about the likelihood that Niger would try to sell uranium to Baghdad. The review concluded that Niger was "probably not planning to sell uranium to Iraq," in part because France controlled the uranium industry in the country and could block such a sale. It also cast doubt on an intelligence report indicating that Niger's president, Mamadou Tandja, might have negotiated a sales agreement with Iraq in 2000. Mr. Tandja and his government were reluctant to do anything to endanger their foreign aid from the United States and other allies, the review concluded. The State Department review also cast doubt on the logistics of Niger being able to deliver 500 tons of uranium even if the sale were attempted. "Moving such a quantity secretly over such a distance would be very difficult, particularly because the French would be indisposed to approve or cloak this arrangement," the review said. Chris Farrell, the director of investigations at Judicial Watch and a former military intelligence officer, said he found the State Department's analysis to be "a very strong, well-thought-out argument that looks at the whole playing field in Niger, and it makes a compelling case for why the uranium sale was so unlikely." The memo, dated March 4, 2002, was distributed at senior levels by the office of Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and by the Defense Intelligence Agency. A Bush administration official, who requested anonymity because the issue involved partly classified documents, would not say whether President Bush had seen the State Department's memo before his State of the Union address on Jan. 28, 2003. But the official added: "The White House is not an intelligence-gathering operation. The president based his remarks in the State of the Union address on the intelligence that was presented to him by the intelligence community and cleared by the intelligence community. The president has said the intelligence was wrong, and we have reorganized our intelligence agencies so we can do better in the future." Mr. Wilson said in an interview that he did not remember ever seeing the memo but that its analysis should raise further questions about why the White House remained convinced for so long that Iraq was trying to buy uranium in Africa. "All the people understood that there was documentary evidence" suggesting that the intelligence about the sale was faulty, he said. |

January 19, 2006 Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden warned
that new attacks are being prepared on the United States, according
to an audiotape attributed to him and broadcast on Al-Jazeera
television.
But the voice on the tape, broadcast a week after a US strike against Al-Qaeda militants in Pakistan, also offered the American people a "long term truce." "The delay in (attacks) is not because of security measures taken... These operations are being prepared and you will see their results," the voice on the tape said, addressing the American people. "We have no objection to offering you a long-term truce based on fair conditions that we will adhere to, because we are a nation that has been forbidden by God to backstab or lie", he said Thursday. Bin Laden had previously not been heard of since a December 27, 2004 audiotape in which he anointed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Iraq's most wanted man, as Al-Qaeda's leader in the war-torn country. The White House declined immediate comment on the tape, while a US official later said it was not yet clear whether the voice on the audiotape was really Bin Laden's, or whether it was recorded recently. In December last year, Al-Jazeera aired a videotape it said dated back to September showing Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri claiming that bin Laden was still alive and leading "jihad" or holy war against the West. "Al-Qaeda for holy war is still, thanks to God, a base for jihad. Its prince Osama bin Laden, may God protect him, still leads the jihad," said Zawahiri. US officials believe that bin Laden, the Western world's most wanted terror mastermind, and other key Qaeda militants have been sheltering somewhere along the mountainous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Bin Laden, behind the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, has a 25 million dollar bounty on his head. Pakistani officials said Thursday that around four Al-Qaeda militants had been killed in a US air strike last Friday, reportedly including the son-in-law Zawahiri and a bomb expert on the US most wanted list. Zawahiri was the target of last Friday's attack by Central Intelligence Agency Predator drones but Pakistani officials say the Egyptian was likely not there at the time. Bin Laden's last video appearance dates back to December 16, 2004 when he also called on his fighters to strike Gulf oil supplies and warned Saudi leaders they risked a popular uprising. The Al-Qaeda leader's previous period of silence had been the longest since the September 11 attacks. Regular tapes or videos of the Egyptian-born Zawahiri, seen as the ideological brains of the network, had only served to feed feverish speculation on what has happened to bin Laden. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said last year he did not know whether bin Laden was dead or alive, adding that he would not like to speculate over his fate. Comment: And here
everyone was worried that Osama was dead! So, Osama is back in the
limelight after a long vacation. Just when things with Iran start
to heat up, Bin Laden comes out of the woodwork and threatens
attacks against the US. Perhaps we will soon hear that a new terror
attack was directed by Osama from a cave in Iran...

A former war crimes investigator
explained how the terrorist network al Qaeda spawned from Nazi and
Islamic extremist movements following WWII.
John Loftus, who regularly appears on Fox News and ABC Radio addressed the theme of “the roots of prejudice and hatred in the world.” He began by explaining that he didn’t set out to become a Nazi hunter. Early in his law career he took a volunteer attorney job created by the Carter administration to hunt Nazis “because I thought it would look good on my resume.” A former war crimes investigator explained how the terrorist network al Qaeda spawned from Nazi and Islamic extremist movements following WWII. John Loftus, who regularly appears on Fox News and ABC Radio addressed the theme of “the roots of prejudice and hatred in the world.” He began by explaining that he didn’t set out to become a Nazi hunter. Early in his law career he took a volunteer attorney job created by the Carter administration to hunt Nazis “because I thought it would look good on my resume.” To his surprise, rather than traveling to Germany to investigate he was sent to the U.S. Government’s massive underground vaults protecting classified information. Loftus claims he was given complete access to the 20 acre-sized vaults, where he says he found some disturbing information. “I stumbled across some Nazi files I wasn’t supposed to see. No one was supposed to see them until the year 2015. The British Secret Service convinced American intelligence that the Nazis would be indispensable as “freedom fighters” in preparing for the next major war, which was anticipated against the Soviet Union. THE ROOTS OF MODERN TERRORISM During his time in the government’s underground vaults, Loftus said he read a file on an organization known as the Muslim Brotherhood. In the file was information about a man named Hasam al-Banna who founded the organization in 1920. “Mr. al-Banna was a devout admirer of a young Austrian writer named Adolph Hitler. His letters to Hitler were so supportive that when Hitler came to power in the 1930s he had Nazi intelligence make contact with al-Banna to see if they could work together,” Loftus said. Hitler had al-banna establish a spy network for Nazi Germany throughout Arabia. Al-Banna promised Hitler that when Gen. Rommel’s Nazi tank division arrived in Cairo and Alexandria, the Muslim Brotherhood would ensure all of the British troops would be killed. “These men were Nazi agents, they were spies, who adopted the Third Reich’s policy towards the Jews,” Loftus said. He spoke about another prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a man known as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who was the organization’s representative in Palestine. The Grand Mufti brought with him a hatred of the Jews. He was a principal organizer of the 1920 “Bloody Passover” massacre of Jews who were praying at Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall. Following a failed attempt to create a Nazi uprising in Iraq, the Grand Mufti fled to Europe to organize international Arab forces for the Third Reich disguised as SS divisions. “In truth these forces were Arab fanatics, Arab Nazis from all across the Middle East,” Loftus said. Though a certain war criminal, the Grand Mufti and his troops were spirited away from prosecution to Egypt by the British Secret Service. “Kim Philby, the Soviet agent who infiltrated the British Secret Service, was also recruiting Arab Nazis to poison the West’s efforts in the Middle East forever,” Loftus said. “By using Arab Nazis, democracy would be discredited, America would be discredited, Britain would be discredited.” Philby “helped” the United States acquire the Arab Nazis who were expelled from Egypt in the 1950s after the Egyptians recognized them as a threat According to Loftus, the Arab Nazis of the Muslim Brotherhood were sent to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “To keep them employed they were given jobs as religious education instructors,” Loftus said. While Islam is a very peaceful religion, Saudi Arabia practiced an extreme form of Islam called Wahhabi. “Saudi Wahhabism is to Islam as the KKK is to Christianity,” Loftus said. “It’s an extreme and perverted form of religion that was condemned as a heresy by Islam more than 60 times before the 1900s.” “Here is this corrupt cult and all of a sudden the school teachers are Nazis. Here a fusion is born between the two. Schools of hatred were built all over Saudi Arabia,” Loftus said. A well known pupil of these schools is Osama bin Laden, Loftus said. Bin Laden and other graduates of the schools were inducted into an underground neo-Nazi Wahhabi army for Saudi Arabia. Just as Russia was using Communist Arabs during the cold war, we would use Arab Nazis as a counterweight to oppose them,” Loftus said. “When the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979 the Arab (neo) Nazis were let out of the closet. “Because of the combination of Wahhabi fanaticism and Nazi ideology, waves of people came pouring into Afghanistan to kill the Communists,” Loftus said. The Soviets were defeated and the United States left. And, according to Loftus, Osama bin Laden took control and his entire army of neo-Nazi theological cultists were left there alive in the field. Bin Laden drew up a list of those who he knew he could rely on and called this list ‘the base.’ Loftus said the Arabic translation of ‘the base’ is ‘al qaeda.’ “Al Qaeda is the direct lineal descendant of the Arab Nazis of the Muslim Brotherhood,” he said. “We let the Muslim Brotherhood, now known as Al Qaeda, to roam free upon the world. Many, human beings have paid for that mistake. THE NUCLEAR PLOT, WMDS AND WHAT’S NEXT In the summer of 2002, Loftus said, the British intercepted a message which revealed a nuclear weapons plot between N. Korea, Libya and Iraq. Iraqi nuclear scientists were working in Libya using enriched uranium supplied by North Korea, according to Loftus. “Saddam new he couldn’t have a nuclear program in his country because U.N. inspectors were all over,” Loftus said. When the United States confronted Libya with the evidence, Mommar Khadafi agreed to cooperate. According to Loftus, Khadafi said there is a Chinese component as well. Not the official government of China, but the radical right wing People’s Liberation Army. This group supplied Libya with detailed instructions on how to build an atomic warhead. Loftus said had the plot not been discovered, the project would have produced an atomic warhead within 18 months. According to Loftus, Iran is the only country remaining that is attempting to develop nuclear weapons. When the International Association of Atomic Energy meets again, Loftus expects the member nations, including the European nations who opposed war in Iraq, to vote to impose sanctions against Iran. “We think the blockade will go into effect very quickly. Iran is the last country that is actively financing terrorist groups. It is one of the few places where sanctions will work because 90 percent of its economy comes from oil exports,” Loftus said. In the al Qaeda plot to unleash a cloud of deadly chemicals in Amman, Jordan’s capital, that was foiled, Loftus said, the chemicals likely came from the hidden cache of WMDs created by Saddam. According to Loftus, evidence gathered by U.S. special forces, Israeli intelligence, statements by defectors, and satellite imagery point to three locations in Syria and one location in Lebanon where the WMDs are expected to be hidden. “U.S. intelligence believes they know where the WMDS are. The new Arab government of Iraq is going to ask for their property (the WMDs) back,” Loftus said. “If Syria and Lebanon don’t give the WMDs back, the new Iraqi government will ask us for help ...and we will help.” In an interview with The U.P. Catholic, Loftus said, “The evidence looks pretty strong. Is it a 100 percent sure? No. But there is a high degree of probability” that the weapons are there. He said this information has not been reported in the American media because the government will not confirm any of the information. However, he said, the story has been circulating through the European press. “We are at the tipping point in the scale. I think we are going to win. In the next 12 months we may see a number of other nations surrender without firing a shot. If half of what my intelligence sources tell me is accurate, we are in for a very good year,” he said. In summary, Loftus said he has spent his career trying to help make a difference. He says the United States is now paying the price for negligence of leaders who looked the other way for inexpensive Arab oil over the years. Loftus’ appearance at St. Peter Cathedral was sponsored by the Marquette County Interfaith Forum. Loftus decided to forego a promising future with the U.S. Justice Department. Instead he blew the whistle. “I think I still hold the record for the longest segment ever on 60 Minutes. In 1982 it caused a minor national uproar,” Loftus said. “Mike Wallace got the Emmy, and my family got death threats.” |

Nov. 2, 2001 Expanded and Revised Sept. 4, 2002 On Oct. 31 the French daily Le Figaro
dropped a bombshell. While in a Dubai hospital receiving treatment
for a chronic kidney infection last July, Osama bin Laden met with
a top CIA official -- presumably the chief of station. The meeting,
held in bin Laden's private suite, took place at the American
hospital in Dubai at a time when he was a wanted fugitive for the
bombings of two U.S. embassies and last year's attack on the USS
Cole. Bin Laden was eligible for execution according to a 2000
intelligence finding issued by President Bill Clinton before
leaving office in January. Yet on July 14, 2001 he was allowed to
leave Dubai on a private jet, and there were no Navy fighters
waiting to force him down.
In 1985 Oliver North -- the only member of the Reagan-Bush years who doesn't appear to have a hand in the current war -- sent the Navy and commandos after terrorists on the cruise ship Achille Lauro. In his 1991 autobiography "Under Fire," while describing terrorist Abu Abbas North wrote, "I used to wonder: how many dead Americans will it take before we do something?" One could look at the number of Americans Osama bin Laden is alleged to have killed before Sept. 11 and ask the same question. It gets worse, much worse. A more complete timeline listing crucial events both before and after the Sept. 11 suicide attacks, which have been blamed on bin Laden, establishes CIA foreknowledge of them and strongly suggests that there was criminal complicity on the part of the U.S. government in their execution. It also makes clear that the events that have taken place since Sept. 11 are based upon an agenda that has little to do with the attacks. [June 19, 2002] -- As the revelations of Bush Administration foreknowledge have progressed from silence, to trickle, to cascade, the question has now changed from forcing the evidence into the open into one of forcing both the media and the people to avoid denying this information in the hopes that their desire for a sense of "normalcy" can be fulfilled. As many of us have known for years, normalcy went out the window forever when the first plane hit the tower. And what has been revealed will not be resolved with an expensive fact-finding commission, a few firing, or even an impeachment proceeding. What is needed in America -- and in the global economic system -- is an overhaul, not a tune up. 1. 1991-1997 - Major U.S. oil companies including ExxonMobil, Texaco, Unocal, BP Amoco, Shell and Enron directly invest billions in cash bribing heads of state in Kazakhstan to secure equity rights in the huge oil reserves in these regions. The oil companies further commit to future direct investments in Kazakhstan of $35 billion. Not being willing to pay exorbitant prices to Russia to use Russian pipelines, the major oil companies have no way to recoup their investments. January 1995 - Philippine police investigating a possible attack on the Pope uncover plans for Operation Bojinka, connected to World Trade Center (WTC) bomber Ramsi Youssef. Parts of the plan call for crashing hijacked airliners into civilian targets. Details of the plan are disclosed in Youssef's 1997 trial for the 1993 WTC bombing. Subsequent reports will indicate that the negotiations failed, allegedly because the Taliban wanted too much money. [Source: The BBC, Dec. 4, 1997] 4. Feb. 12, 1998 - Unocal Vice President John J. Maresca -- later to become a special ambassador to Afghanistan -- testifies before the House that until a single, unified, friendly government is in place in Afghanistan, the trans-Afghani pipeline needed to monetize the oil will not be built. August 1998 - After the U.S. cruise missile attacks on Al Qaeda targets in Afghanistan in retaliation for the African embassy bombings, Unocal officially withdraws from participation in the CentGas trans-Afghani gas pipeline project. [Various sources, Unocal] 6. 1998 - The CIA ignores warnings from Case Officer Robert Baer that Saudi Arabia was harboring an Al Qaeda cell led by two known terrorists. A more detailed list of known terrorists is offered to Saudi intelligence in August 2001 and refused. April 1999 - Enron with a $3 billion investment to build an electrical generating plant at Dabhol, India loses access to plentiful LNG supplies from Qatar to fuel the plant. Its only remaining option to make the investment profitable is a trans-Afghani gas pipeline to be built by Unocal from Turkmenistan that would terminate near the Indian border at the city of Multan. August 2000 -- Suspected Al Qaeda operatives wiretapped by Italian police made apparent references to plans for major attacks involving airports, airplanes and the United States according to transcripts obtained by the Los Angeles Times. The Times suggests that the information might not have been passed to U.S. authorities (hard to believe), but it did report that Italian authorities would not comment on the report. The Times also noted that "Italian and U.S. anti-terrorism experts cooperate closely." [Source: The Los Angeles Times, May 29, 2002] 13. Oct. 24-26, 2000 - Pentagon officials carry out a "detailed" emergency drill based upon the crashing of a hijacked airliner into the Pentagon. [Source: The Mirror, May 24, 2002] 14. January 2001 - The Bush Administration orders the FBI and intelligence agencies to "back off" investigations involving the bin Laden family, including two of Osama bin Laden's relatives (Abdullah and Omar) who were living in Falls Church, Va. -- right next to CIA headquarters. This followed previous orders dating back to 1996 that frustrated efforts to investigate the bin Laden family. [Source: BBC Newsnight, Correspondent Gregg Palast, Nov. 7, 2001] 15. Jan. 30, 2001 - Sept. 11 hijacker Ziad Jarrah was questioned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A number of UAE, Middle Eastern, European, and U.S. sources were cited in this CNN report, which said the CIA requested Jarrah be interrogated because he had been in Afghanistan and was suspected to have ties to terrorists. An unnamed CIA spokesman said the other sources' claims that the agency knew anything about Jarrah before Sept. 11 were "flatly untrue." Jarrah's Jan. 30 detainment at the airport in Dubai, UAE came six months after he took flying lessons in the U.S. Jarrah was released because "U.S. officials were satisfied," said the report. [Source: CNN, Aug. 1, 2002 http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/08/01/cia.hijacker/index.html] 16. Feb. 13, 2001 - UPI terrorism correspondent Richard Sale -- while covering a trial of bin Laden's Al Qaeda followers -- reports that the National Security Agency has broken bin Laden's encrypted communications. Even if this indicates that bin Laden changed systems in February, it does not mesh with the fact that the government insists that the attacks had been planned for years. 17. May 2001 - Secretary of State Colin Powell gives $43 million in aid to the Taliban regime, purportedly to assist hungry farmers who are starving since the destruction of their opium crop in January on orders of the Taliban regime. [Source: Los Angeles Times, May 22, 2001] 18. May 2001 - Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, a career covert operative and former Navy Seal, travels to India on a publicized tour, while CIA Director George Tenet makes a quiet visit to Pakistan to meet with Pakistani leader Gen. Pervez Musharraf. Armitage has long and deep Pakistani intelligence connections. It would be reasonable to assume that while in Islamabad, Tenet, in what was described as "an unusually long meeting," also met with his Pakistani counterpart, Lt. Gen. Mahmud Ahmad, head of the ISI. [Source: The Indian SAPRA news agency, May 22, 2001] 19. June 2001 - German intelligence, the BND, warns the CIA and Israel that Middle Eastern terrorists are "planning to hijack commercial aircraft to use as weapons to attack important symbols of American and Israeli culture." [Source: Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Sept. 14, 2001; See http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/f_a_zeitung_story.html] 20. June 8, 2001 - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) publishes a story headlined, "Central Asia: Charges Link Russian Military to Drug Trade." According to the article, figures for 1999 published in a report by the United Nations Drug Control Program (UNDCP) revealed that 80 percent of the heroin consumed in Western Europe originated in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The UNDCP report also revealed half of the drugs in that 80 percent traveled through Central Asia. A study by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace published in March 2000 said Russian soldiers headquartered in Tajikistan were suspected of helping drug traffickers by providing them with transportation facilities. This was confirmed by a Russian intelligence officer who told the Moscow News weekly, "You can come to an arrangement [with custom officials] so that the search of military transport planes remains purely formal. The same goes for train convoys carrying military cargo [to Russia from Tajikistan]." [Source: www.rferl.org/nca/features/2001/06/08062001111711.asp] 21. July 2001 - FBI agents in Arizona write a memorandum warning about suspicious activities involving a group of Middle Eastern men taking flight training lessons in Phoenix. [Source: The Albion Monitor, Feb. 28, 2002] 23. summer 2001 - According to a Sept. 26 story in Britain's The Guardian, correspondent David Leigh reported that "U.S. department of defense official, Dr. Jeffrey Starr, visited Tajikistan in January. The Guardian's Felicity Lawrence established that U.S. Rangers were also training special troops in Kyrgyzstan. There were unconfirmed reports that Tajik and Uzbek special troops were training in Alaska and Montana." 24. summer 2001 (est.) - Pakistani ISI Chief Gen. Ahmad (see above) orders an aide to wire transfer $100,000 to Mohammed Atta who was, according to the FBI, the lead terrorist in the suicide hijackings. Ahmad recently resigned after the transfer was disclosed in India and confirmed by the FBI. The individual who makes the wire transfer at Ahmad's direction is Ahmad Umar Sheik, the lead suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. [Source: The Times of India, Oct.11, 2001.] 25. summer 2001 - The online newswire online.ie reports on Sept. 14 that an Iranian man phones U.S. law enforcement to warn of an imminent attack on the WTC in the week of Sept. 9. German police confirm the calls but state that the U.S. Secret Service would not reveal any further information. [Source: http://www.online.ie/news/viewer.adp?article=1512332. http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/online_ie_story.html ] 26. summer 2001 - Jordanian intelligence, the GID, makes a communications intercept deemed so important that King Abdullah's men relay it to Washington, probably through the CIA station in Amman. To make doubly sure the message got through it was passed through an Arab intermediary to a German intelligence agent. The message: A major attack was planned inside the U.S., and aircraft would be used. The code name of the operation was "The Big Wedding." "When it became clear that the information was embarrassing to Bush Administration officials and congressmen who at first denied that there had been any such warnings before Sept. 11, senior Jordanian officials backed away from their earlier confirmations." This case was authenticated by ABC reporter John K. Cooley. [Source: International Herald Tribune (IHT), May 21, 2002] 27. summer 2001 (est.) - The National Security Agency intercepts telephone conversations between bin Laden aide Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Mohammed Atta and does not share the information with any other agencies. June 26, 2001 - The magazine indiareacts.com states that "India and Iran will 'facilitate' U.S. and Russian plans for 'limited military action' against the Taliban." The story indicates that the fighting will be done by U.S. and Russian troops with the help of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. [Source: indiareacts.com, June 26, 2001] 29. summer 2001 - Russian intelligence notifies the CIA that 25 terrorist pilots have been specifically training for missions involving hijacked airliners. This is reported in the Russian press and news stories are translated for FTW by a retired CIA officer. (Note: The story currently on the Izvestia web site has been edited to delete a key paragraph.) July 15, 2001 - Members of the G8, meeting in Genoa, Italy, discuss the Taliban, pipelines, and the handing over of Osama bin Laden. According to Pakistani representative Ambassador Naiz Naik, the U.S. delegation, led by former Clinton Ambassador to Pakistan Tom Simmons warned of a "military option" if the Taliban did not change position. [Source: Jean-Charles Brisard and Guillaume Dasquie, "Bin Laden: La Verite Interdite," pp76-7. Thanks to Prof. Peter Dale Scott] 32. July 2001 - Immediately after the G8 Summit three American officials -- Tom Simmons (former U.S. ambassador to Pakistan), Karl Inderfurth (former assistant secretary of state for South Asian affairs) and Lee Coldren (former State Department expert on South Asia) -- meet with Pakistani and Russian intelligence officers in Berlin and tell them that the U.S. is planning military strikes against Afghanistan in October. A French book released in November, "Bin Laden - La Verite Interdite," discloses that Taliban representatives often sat in on the meetings. British papers confirm that the Pakistani ISI relayed the threats to the Taliban. July 2001 - The G8 summit at Genoa, Italy is surrounded by anti-aircraft guns, and local airspace is closed off after Italian and Egyptian officials (including President Hosni Mubarak) warn American intelligence that airliners stuffed with explosives might be used to attack President Bush. U.S. officials state that the warnings were "unsubstantiated." (But I wonder if they would have taken away the anti-aircraft artillery?) [Source: Los Angeles Times, Sept. 27, 2001] 34. July 26, 2001 - CBS News reports that John Ashcroft has stopped flying commercial airlines due a threat assessment. Ashcroft told the press that he didn't know anything about what had caused it. 35. Aug. 2, 2001 - U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, Christine Rocca (a former CIA officer), meets in Islamabad with a Taliban ambassador and demands the extradition of bin Laden. This was the last known meeting on the subject. [Source: Brisard and Dasquie, p 79. Thanks to Prof. Peter Dale Scott] 36. August 2001 - The FBI arrests an Islamic militant linked to bin Laden in Boston. At the time of his arrest the man is in possession of technical information on Boeing aircraft and flight manuals. [Source: Reuters, Sept. 13, 2001] 37. Aug. 11 or 12, 2001 ‚ U.S. Navy Lt. Delmart "Mike" Vreeland, jailed in Toronto on U.S. fraud charges and claiming to be an officer with U.S. naval intelligence, writes details of the pending WTC attacks and seals them in an envelope, which he gives to Canadian authorities. [Source: The Toronto Star, Oct. 23, 2001; Toronto Superior Court Records] 38. August 2001 - As reported in the IHT both a French magazine (name not given) and a Moroccan newspaper simultaneously report that a Moroccan agent named Hassan Dabou had penetrated Al Qaeda to the point of getting close to bin Laden, who was "very disappointed" that the 1993 bombing had not toppled the WTC. Dabou was called to the U.S. after reporting this, which curtailed his ability to stay in touch with the organization and gather additional intelligence that might have prevented the attacks. Though not proved beyond a doubt, these stories have been met with a wall of silence. [The IHT, May 21, 2002] 39. August 2001 - Russian President Vladimir Putin orders Russian intelligence to warn the U.S. government "in the strongest possible terms" of imminent attacks on airports and government buildings. [Source: MSNBC interview with Putin, Sept. 15, 2001] 40. August 2001 - President Bush receives classified intelligence briefings at his Crawford, Texas ranch indicating that Osama bin Laden might be planning to hijack commercial airliners. [CBS News; CNN, May 15, 2002] 41. late-August 2001 - Prince Turki, the pro-U.S. head of Saudi intelligence (also known to be close to bin Laden), is replaced by his more neutral half-brother, Prince Nawwaf who is an ally of Crown Prince Abdullah. [Source: Saudi Arabian Information Resource, Aug. 31, 2001; http://www.saudinf.com/ - Thanks to Prof. Peter Dale Scott] 42. August/September 2001 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average drops nearly 900 points in the three weeks prior to the attack. A major stock market crash is imminent. 43. August/September 2001 - According to a detailed 13-page memo written by Minneapolis FBI legal officer Colleen Rowley, FBI headquarters ignores urgent, direct warnings from French intelligence services about pending attacks. In addition, a single Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) in Washington expends extra effort to thwart the field office's investigation of Zacarias Moussaoui, in one case rewriting Rowley's affidavit for a search warrant to search Moussaoui's laptop. Rowley's memo uses terms like "deliberately sabotage," "block," "integrity," "omitted," "downplayed," "glossed over," "mis-characterize," "improper political reasons, "deliberately thwarting," "deliberately further undercut," "suppressed," and "not completely honest." These are not terms describing negligent acts but rather, deliberate acts. FBI field agents desperately attempt to get action, but to no avail. One agent speculates that bin Laden might be planning to crash airliners into the WTC, while Rowley ironically noted that the SSA who had committed these deliberate actions had actually been promoted after Sept. 11. [Source: Associated Press, May 21, 2002] 44. Sept. 3-10, 2001 - MSNBC reports on Sept. 16 that a caller to a Cayman Islands radio talk show gave several warnings of an imminent attack on the U.S. by bin Laden in the week prior to 9-11. 45. early-September 2001 - An FBI internal document, based upon field notes from Minnesota field agents discloses that the agents had been investigating and had questioned the "20th hijacker," Zacarias Moussaoui. The field notes speculate that Moussaoui, who had been taking flight lessons, might crash an airliner into the WTC. Interestingly, the field agents' requests to obtain a search warrant for his personal computer were denied. French intelligence confirms to the FBI that Moussaoui has ties to terrorist groups and may have traveled to Afghanistan. The agents also had no knowledge of the Phoenix memo (See Item #18). One news story states that agents were in "a frenzy," absolutely convinced that he was "going to do something with a plane." [Source: Newsweek, May 20, 2002 issue, story by Michael Isikoff]. 46. Sept. 1-10 2001 - In an exercise, called Operation "Swift Sword" and planned for four years, 23,000 British troops are steaming toward Oman. Although the 9-11 attacks caused a hiccup in the deployment, the massive operation was implemented as planned. At the same time two U.S. carrier battle groups arrive on station in the Gulf of Arabia just off the Pakistani coast. Also at the same time, some 17,000 U.S. troops join more than 23,000 NATO troops in Egypt for Operation "Bright Star." All of these forces are in place before the first plane hits the WTC. [Sources: The Guardian; CNN; Fox; The Observer; International Law Professor Francis Boyle, the University of Illinois.] 47. Sept. 4-5, 2001 - A freshman at Brooklyn's New Utrecht High School who had recently emigrated from Pakistan reportedly predicts the destruction of the World Trade Center a week prior to the 9-11 attacks, according to the JournalNews newspaper in White Plains, N.Y. Citing "three police sources and a city official familiar with the investigation" as well as confirmation from the FBI that the bureau had received this information, the paper reported that in the midst of a heated class discussion the student pointed to the World Trade Center from a third story window and said, "Do you see those two buildings? They won't be standing there next week." New York City Board of Education spokeswoman Catie Marshall confirmed for the JournalNews "that school officials reported the matter to police within minutes of the Sept. 11 attack" and students told the paper that "FBI agents and NYPD detectives descended on the school on Sept. 13 to interrogate the student [who made the prediction] and others in his class," which was "an English class for Arab-American students." [Source: The JournalNews, Oct. 11, 2001, http://www.thejournalnews.com/newsroom/101101/11warumors.html] 48. Sept. 5, 2001 - "Five hundred websites -- many of them with an Arab or Muslim connection -- crash when an anti-terrorism taskforce raids InfoCom Corp. in Texas," reported Britain's the Guardian on Sept. 10, 2001. A taskforce of approximately 80 federal agents and officials from the FBI, Secret Service, INS, Customs, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, IRS, and Commerce Department occupied InfoCom's office building in the Dallas suburb of Richardson, Texas for four days, "copying every hard disc they could find." InfoCom hosts many websites for Middle Eastern clients and is located across the street from the Holy Land Foundation, a charitable organization which has been alleged to have connections with terrorist groups. InfoCom's vice president of marketing, Ghassan Elashi, is also the chairman of the Holy Land Foundation. Sept. 7, 2001 - Florida Governor Jeb Bush signs a two-year emergency executive order (01-261) making new provisions for the Florida National Guard to assist law enforcement and emergency-management personnel in the event of large civil disturbances, disaster or acts of terrorism. [Source: State of Florida website listing of Governor's executive orders] 50. Sept. 6-7, 2001 - Put options (a speculation that the stock will go down) totaling 4,744 are purchased on United Air Lines stock, as opposed to only 396 call options (speculation that the stock will go up). This is a dramatic and abnormal increase in sales of put options. Many of the United puts are purchased through Deutschebank/A.B. Brown, a firm managed until 1998 by the current executive director of the CIA, A.B. "Buzzy" Krongard. Sept. 10, 2001 - Put options totaling 4,516 are purchased on American Airlines as compared to 748 call options. [Source: Herzliyya Institute - above] 52. Sept. 6-11, 2001 - No other airlines show any similar trading patterns to those experienced by United and American. The put option purchases on both airlines were 600 percent above normal. This at a time when Reuters (Sept. 10) issues a business report stating, "Airline stocks may be poised to take off." 53. Sept. 6-10, 2001 - Highly abnormal levels of put options are purchased in Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, AXA Re(insurance) which owns 25 percent of American Airlines, and Munich Re. All of these companies are directly impacted by the Sept. 11 attacks. [Source: ICT, above; FTW, Oct. 18, 2001, http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/oct152001.html] 54. 2001-2002 - It has been documented that the CIA, the Israeli Mossad, and many other intelligence agencies monitor stock trading in real time using highly advanced programs reported to be descended from Promis software. This is to alert national intelligence services of just such kinds of attacks. [Source: the Globe and Mail, Aug. 28, 2002] Now, let's go back to the Oct. 31 story by Le Figaro -- the one that has Osama bin Laden meeting with a CIA officer in Dubai in July 2001. The story says, "Throughout his stay in the hospital, Osama Bin Laden received visits from many family members [There goes the story that he's a black sheep! --MCR] and Saudi Arabian Emirate personalities of status. During this time the local representative of the CIA was seen by many people taking the elevator and going to bin Laden's room. "Several days later the CIA officer bragged to his friends about having visited the Saudi millionaire. From authoritative sources, this CIA agent visited CIA headquarters on July 15, the day after bin Laden's departure for Quetta. "According to various Arab diplomatic sources and French intelligence itself, precise information was communicated to the CIA concerning terrorist attacks aimed at American interests in the world, including its own territory. "Extremely bothered, they [American intelligence officers in a meeting with French intelligence officers] requested from their French peers exact details about the Algerian activists [connected to bin Laden through Dubai banking institutions], without explaining the exact nature of their inquiry. When asked the question, What do you fear in the coming days?' the Americans responded with incomprehensible silence. "On further investigation, the FBI discovered certain plans that had been put together between the CIA and its 'Islamic friends' over the years. The meeting in Dubai is, so it would seem, consistent with 'a certain American policy.'" Even though Le Figaro reported that it had confirmed with hospital staff that bin Laden had been there as reported, stories printed on Nov. 1 contained quotes from hospital staff that these reports were untrue. On Nov. 1, as reported by the Ananova press agency, the CIA flatly denied that any meeting between any CIA personnel and Osama bin Laden at any time. Who do you believe? Comment: What is not
being reported to the American people is the fact that the Al-Qaeda
Terrorist Organization allegedly headed up by Osama bin Laden (who
is frequently reported as dead, and then resurrected when needed),
was created by Nazi Fascists in the 1920’s used by British,
French and American Intelligence Organizations after World War II,
then reactivated by the CIA under George H. W. Bush, who, at the
time, was head of the CIA. The the Al-Qaeda project was funded by
the Saudis.
What is also not known by most Americans is the fact that the religion of Saudi Arabia is not Muslim, but is a Cult called Wahhabi, which has been repeatedly condemned by other Muslim nations Additionally, the alleged terrorists responsible for the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001 were not Iraqi, were not Syrian, were not Iranian, were not Afghani... They were all Saudi Arabian citizens and members of the Wahhabi Cult. What is more, at least seven of the alleged hijackers are reportedly still alive. These facts have been suppressed with the result that the American have backed a war against innocent countries and peoples. It seems that the only reason for the visit of the CIA to the bedside of the deathly ill Osama "under the bed" bin Laden, was to confer with him on the upcoming attacks and the role he would be playing - probably even after death. |

AlterNet May 19, 2003. Many neoconservatives like Paul Wolfowitz
are disciples of a philosopher who believed that the elite should
use deception, religious fervor and perpetual war to control the
ignorant masses.
What would you do if you wanted to topple Saddam Hussein, but your intelligence agencies couldn't find the evidence to justify a war? A follower of Leo Strauss may just hire the "right" kind of men to get the job done – people with the intellect, acuity, and, if necessary, the political commitment, polemical skills, and, above all, the imagination to find the evidence that career intelligence officers could not detect. The "right" man for Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, suggests Seymour Hersh in his recent New Yorker article entitled 'Selective Intelligence,' was Abram Shulsky, director of the Office of Special Plans (OSP) – an agency created specifically to find the evidence of WMDs and/or links with Al Qaeda, piece it together, and clinch the case for the invasion of Iraq. Like Wolfowitz, Shulsky is a student of an obscure German Jewish political philosopher named Leo Strauss who arrived in the United States in 1938. Strauss taught at several major universities, including Wolfowitz and Shulsky's alma mater, the University of Chicago, before his death in 1973. Strauss is a popular figure among the neoconservatives. Adherents of his ideas include prominent figures both within and outside the administration. They include 'Weekly Standard' editor William Kristol; his father and indeed the godfather of the neoconservative movement, Irving Kristol; the new Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence, Stephen Cambone, a number of senior fellows at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) (home to former Defense Policy Board chairman Richard Perle and Lynne Cheney), and Gary Schmitt, the director of the influential Project for the New American Century (PNAC), which is chaired by Kristol the Younger. Strauss' philosophy is hardly incidental to the strategy and mindset adopted by these men – as is obvious in Shulsky's 1999 essay titled "Leo Strauss and the World of Intelligence (By Which We Do Not Mean Nous)" (in Greek philosophy the term nous denotes the highest form of rationality). As Hersh notes in his article, Shulsky and his co-author Schmitt "criticize America's intelligence community for its failure to appreciate the duplicitous nature of the regimes it deals with, its susceptibility to social-science notions of proof, and its inability to cope with deliberate concealment." They argued that Strauss's idea of hidden meaning, "alerts one to the possibility that political life may be closely linked to deception. Indeed, it suggests that deception is the norm in political life, and the hope, to say nothing of the expectation, of establishing a politics that can dispense with it is the exception." Rule One: Deception It's hardly surprising then why Strauss is so popular in an administration obsessed with secrecy, especially when it comes to matters of foreign policy. Not only did Strauss have few qualms about using deception in politics, he saw it as a necessity. While professing deep respect for American democracy, Strauss believed that societies should be hierarchical – divided between an elite who should lead, and the masses who should follow. But unlike fellow elitists like Plato, he was less concerned with the moral character of these leaders. According to Shadia Drury, who teaches politics at the University of Calgary, Strauss believed that "those who are fit to rule are those who realize there is no morality and that there is only one natural right – the right of the superior to rule over the inferior." This dichotomy requires "perpetual deception" between the rulers and the ruled, according to Drury. Robert Locke, another Strauss analyst says,"The people are told what they need to know and no more." While the elite few are capable of absorbing the absence of any moral truth, Strauss thought, the masses could not cope. If exposed to the absence of absolute truth, they would quickly fall into nihilism or anarchy, according to Drury, author of 'Leo Strauss and the American Right' (St. Martin's 1999). Second Principle: Power of Religion According to Drury, Strauss had a "huge contempt" for secular democracy. Nazism, he believed, was a nihilistic reaction to the irreligious and liberal nature of the Weimar Republic. Among other neoconservatives, Irving Kristol has long argued for a much greater role for religion in the public sphere, even suggesting that the Founding Fathers of the American Republic made a major mistake by insisting on the separation of church and state. And why? Because Strauss viewed religion as absolutely essential in order to impose moral law on the masses who otherwise would be out of control. At the same time, he stressed that religion was for the masses alone; the rulers need not be bound by it. Indeed, it would be absurd if they were, since the truths proclaimed by religion were "a pious fraud." As Ronald Bailey, science correspondent for Reason magazine points out, "Neoconservatives are pro-religion even though they themselves may not be believers." "Secular society in their view is the worst possible thing,'' Drury says, because it leads to individualism, liberalism, and relativism, precisely those traits that may promote dissent that in turn could dangerously weaken society's ability to cope with external threats. Bailey argues that it is this firm belief in the political utility of religion as an "opiate of the masses" that helps explain why secular Jews like Kristol in 'Commentary' magazine and other neoconservative journals have allied themselves with the Christian Right and even taken on Darwin's theory of evolution. Third Principle: Aggressive Nationalism Like Thomas Hobbes, Strauss believed that the inherently aggressive nature of human beings could only be restrained by a powerful nationalistic state. "Because mankind is intrinsically wicked, he has to be governed," he once wrote. "Such governance can only be established, however, when men are united – and they can only be united against other people." Not surprisingly, Strauss' attitude toward foreign policy was distinctly Machiavellian. "Strauss thinks that a political order can be stable only if it is united by an external threat," Drury wrote in her book. "Following Machiavelli, he maintained that if no external threat exists then one has to be manufactured (emphases added)." "Perpetual war, not perpetual peace, is what Straussians believe in," says Drury. The idea easily translates into, in her words, an "aggressive, belligerent foreign policy," of the kind that has been advocated by neocon groups like PNAC and AEI scholars – not to mention Wolfowitz and other administration hawks who have called for a world order dominated by U.S. military power. Strauss' neoconservative students see foreign policy as a means to fulfill a "national destiny" – as Irving Kristol defined it already in 1983 – that goes far beyond the narrow confines of a " myopic national security." As to what a Straussian world order might look like, the analogy was best captured by the philosopher himself in one of his – and student Allen Bloom's – many allusions to Gulliver's Travels. In Drury's words, "When Lilliput was on fire, Gulliver urinated over the city, including the palace. In so doing, he saved all of Lilliput from catastrophe, but the Lilliputians were outraged and appalled by such a show of disrespect." The image encapsulates the neoconservative vision of the United States' relationship with the rest of the world – as well as the relationship between their relationship as a ruling elite with the masses. "They really have no use for liberalism and democracy, but they're conquering the world in the name of liberalism and democracy," Drury says. Jim Lobe writes on foreign policy for Alternet. Saturday, 08 October 2005 After the elections of March 5, 1933, the
Nazis began a systematic takeover of the state governments
throughout Germany, ending a centuries old tradition of local
political independence. Armed SA and SS thugs barged into local
government offices using the state of emergency decree as a pretext
to throw out legitimate office holders and replace them with Nazi
Reich commissioners.
Political enemies were arrested by the thousands and put in hastily constructed holding pens. Old army barracks and abandoned factories were used as prisons. Once inside, prisoners were subjected to military style drills and harsh discipline. They were often beaten and sometimes even tortured to death. This was the very beginning of the Nazi concentration camp system. At this time, these early concentration camps were loosely organized under the control of the SA and the rival SS. Many were little more than barbed wire stockades know as 'wild' concentration camps, set up by local Gauleiters and SA leaders. For Adolf Hitler, the goal of a legally established dictatorship was now within reach. On March 15, 1933, a cabinet meeting was held during which Hitler and Göring discussed how to obstruct what was left of the democratic process to get an Enabling Act passed by the Reichstag. This law would hand over the constitutional functions of the Reichstag to Hitler, including the power to make laws, control the budget and approve treaties with foreign governments. The emergency decree signed by Hindenburg on February 28, after the Reichstag fire, made it easy for them to interfere with non-Nazi elected representatives of the people by simply arresting them. As Hitler plotted to bring democracy to an end in Germany, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels put together a brilliant public relations display at the official opening of the newly elected Reichstag. On March 21, in the Garrison Church at Potsdam, the burial place of Frederick the Great, an elaborate ceremony took place designed to ease public concern over Hitler and his gangster-like new regime. It was attended by President Hindenburg, foreign diplomats, the General Staff and all the old guard going back to the days of the Kaiser. Dressed in their handsome uniforms sprinkled with medals, they watched a most reverent Adolf Hitler give a speech paying respect to Hindenburg and celebrating the union of old Prussian military traditions and the new Nazi Reich. As a symbol of this, the old Imperial flags would soon add swastikas. Finishing his speech, Hitler walked over to Hindenburg and respectfully bowed before him while taking hold of the old man's hand. The scene was recorded on film and by press photographers from around the world. This was precisely the impression Hitler and Goebbels wanted to give to the world, all the while plotting to toss aside Hindenburg and the elected Reichstag. Later that same day, Hindenburg signed two decrees put before him by Hitler. The first offered full pardons to all Nazis currently in prison. The prison doors sprang open and out came an assortment of Nazi thugs and murderers. The second decree signed by the befuddled old man allowed for the arrest of anyone suspected of maliciously criticizing the government and the Nazi party. (Sound familiar?) A third decree signed only by Hitler and Papen allowed for the establishment of special courts to try political offenders. These courts were conducted in the military style of a court-martial without a jury and usually with no counsel for the defense. On March 23, the newly elected Reichstag met in the Kroll Opera House in Berlin to consider passing Hitler's Enabling Act. It was officially called the "Law for Removing the Distress of the People and the Reich." If passed, it would in effect vote democracy out of existence in Germany and establish the legal dictatorship of Adolf Hitler. Brown-shirted Nazi storm troopers swarmed over the fancy old building in a show of force and as a visible threat. They stood outside, in the hallways and even lined the aisles inside, glaring ominously at anyone who might oppose Hitler's will. Before the vote, Hitler made a speech in which he pledged to use restraint. "The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures...The number of cases in which an internal necessity exists for having recourse to such a law is in itself a limited one," Hitler told the Reichstag. He also promised an end to unemployment and pledged to promote peace with France, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. But in order to do all this, Hitler said, he first needed the Enabling Act. A two-thirds majority was needed, since the law would actually alter the constitution. Hitler needed 31 non-Nazi votes to pass it. He got those votes from the Catholic Center Party after making a false promise to restore some basic rights already taken away by decree. Meanwhile, Nazi storm troopers chanted outside: "Full powers - or else! We want the bill - or fire and murder!!" But one man arose amid the overwhelming might. Otto Wells, leader of the Social Democrats stood up and spoke quietly to Hitler. "We German Social Democrats pledge ourselves solemnly in this historic hour to the principles of humanity and justice, of freedom and socialism. No enabling act can give you power to destroy ideas which are eternal and indestructible." Hitler was enraged and jumped up to respond. "You are no longer needed! - The star of Germany will rise and yours will sink! Your death knell has sounded!" The vote was taken - 441 for, and only 84, the Social Democrats, against. The Nazis leapt to their feet clapping, stamping and shouting, then broke into the Nazi anthem, the Hörst Wessel song. Democracy was ended. They had brought down the German Democratic Republic legally. From this day onward, the Reichstag would be just a sounding board, a cheering section for Hitler's pronouncements. Interestingly, the Nazi party was now flooded with applications for membership. These latecomers were cynically labeled by old time Nazis as 'March Violets.' In May, the Nazi Party froze membership. Many of those kept out applied to the SA and the SS which were still accepting. However, in early 1934, Heinrich Himmler would throw out 50,000 of those 'March Violets' from the SS. The Nazi Gleichschaltung now began, a massive coordination of all aspects of life under the swastika and the absolute leadership of Adolf Hitler. Under Hitler, the State, not the individual, was supreme. From the moment of birth one existed to serve the State and obey the dictates of the Führer. Those who disagreed were disposed of. Many agreed. Bureaucrats, industrialists, even intellectual and literary figures, including Gerhart Hauptmann, world renowned dramatist, were coming out in open support of Hitler. Many disagreed and left the country. A flood of the finest minds, including over two thousand writers, scientists, and people in the arts poured out of Germany and enriched other lands, mostly the United States. Among them - writer Thomas Mann, director Fritz Lang, actress Marlene Dietrich, architect Walter Gropius, musicians Otto Klemperer, Kurt Weill, Richard Tauber, psychologist Sigmund Freud, and Albert Einstein, who was visiting California when Hitler came to power and never returned to Germany. In Germany, there were now constant Nazi rallies, parades, marches and meetings amid the relentless propaganda of Goebbels and the omnipresent swastika. For those who remained there was an odd mixture of fear and optimism in the air. Now, for the first time as dictator, Adolf Hitler turned his attention to the driving force which had propelled him into politics in the first place, his hatred of the Jews. It began with a simple boycott on April 1, 1933, and would end years later in the greatest tragedy in all of human history. Maybe there is a connection? |
