Putin appoints new defense minister, transfers Shoigu to secretary of Security Council

putin shoigu
Russian President Vladimir Putin decided Sunday to dismiss Sergey Shoygu as defense minister in a rare Cabinet shake-up.

Shoygu, a longtime ally of the president, had been holding the post since 2012.

According to a decree published on the Kremlin's website, Putin appointed Shoygu as secretary of Russia's Security Council and recommended Andrei Belousov, a former deputy prime minister who specializes in economics, for his post.

Commenting on Putin's decision, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a civilian official will assume the post of head of the Ministry of Defense due to the need to introduce innovations in its work.

Comment: While this may be unrelated, Russia's Deputy Defence minister, allegedly a friend of Shoigu's, was in court recently on corruption charges.

More from Reuters Shoigu's replacement:
Belousov, 65, graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the Moscow State University in 1981 with distinction. He defended his dissertation on "An imitative approach to modeling interrelated processes for the formation and use of working capital."

In 2017, Russian media outlet RBC said Belousov was one of the officials who convinced Putin that the digital economy and blockchain were crucial to the future.

"I can say that what a country with sovereignty should definitely have is the possession of its own meanings. Who are we, where are we from, where are we going? ... We have no other option for our country but to acquire or reproduce this identity," Belousov told RBC in an interview in 2023.

According to RBC, he practised sambo and karate in his youth and did not serve in the armed forces. He is thought to be close to Putin.
Also, a quote from him on Russia's proxy war against the West:
"By preserving traditional values of the West, which are originally the values of Western Christian European civilization, Russia can become a guardian of these values. This may seem like a paradoxical idea, but it is nonetheless true. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that the West is our enemy."

A Georgian parliamentary committee on Monday approved the third and final reading of a "foreign influence" bill amid ongoing protests in the capital Tbilisi.

The approval came amid ongoing protests in Tbilisi overnight, during which 20 people, including three foreign nationals, were detained by law enforcers, according to the Georgian Interior Ministry.

Macron 'hopes' France won't go to war with Russia

The French leader said the EU needs to be "ready to act" if Moscow goes "too far"

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that while Paris seeks to avoid direct involvement in the Ukraine conflict, an intervention may be necessary to deter Russia from advancing too far.

The European Union "would lose all credibility and security" if Russia were to prevail, Macron said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, responding to a question on whether France is "going to go to war."

"Our own future and our security is at stake in Ukraine," the French leader argued, stressing that in addition to delivering more military equipment to Kiev, EU nations must be "ready to act" if "the Russians are going too far."

"So no, I hope with all my might that we won't have to go to war," he said, insisting that France is a "peace power." However, Paris needs to continue to arm itself in order to "protect peace," Macron continued, stressing that intervention must remain an option if the country's interests are threatened.

Comment:

1) Here is some history for Macron's latest statements: 2) There was also, across the channel from France: UK ambassador summoned to Kremlin: Moscow threatens to strike British military facilities following Cameron's Ukraine remark

And in that connection, most interesting, Conservative British MP, Andrew Bridgen, said that in an interview the UK is basically at war with Russia, but that Rishi Sunak does not want to be a wartime PM, and that the UK Government does not want to tell the public until later in the year, July, August, maybe later.

3) If Macron knows, and basically agrees, with what Andrew Bridgen says, how would he brake it to the French people? Would he keep rambling about "troops on the ground" and "hope nots" as he does? Or is he playing a different game and making excuses to build up an army not to fight Russia, but the US considering: Being a US 'ally' means silently watching your own destruction and hoping France will come out on top with him as the leader of Western Europe? We can only guess, wait, and see. For now, Macron would probably like to see the PR stunt at the Olympics in France get squeezed in before. Regarding "French interests" in Ukraine see: France will likely seek to secure Ukraine's Black Sea coast if it conventionally intervenes

Nuland explains why US didn't want Ukraine to talk to Russia

Kiev's "negotiating position" has never been strong enough amid the conflict, former US Deputy Secretary of State says

Ukraine has never been in a position to get a favorable settlement to end the enduring conflict with Russia and so Washington has never actually encouraged Kiev to negotiate with Moscow, former US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and former acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland has claimed.

The ex-official and one of the key proponents of supporting Ukraine through military means made the remark in an interview with Politico published on Saturday. A vast part of the interview revolved around the Ukrainian conflict, with Nuland producing a typical mainstream American assessment of it.

Comment:
1) Nuland: "They were not in a strong enough position then. They're not in a strong enough position now." Ukraine has lost millions of people, who have fled the country, and hundreds of thousands that have been killed in a war that began with a coup in 2014: Ten years after Maidan: Why won't the West admit that the coup was based on a lie?

2) Nuland appears in more than 60 article titles, here are 20+: 3) Victoria Nuland was a front figure for handling some of the US allies in Europe, as the term is explained in Being a US 'ally' means silently watching your own destruction, even if she is not mentioned. So far the US bid to 'strategically weaken' Russia backfired, creating Army adapted for post-industrial warfare

4) Victoria Nuland and her husband Robert Kagan were and are among the Straussians, a group of US neoconservatives discussed or mentioned in the following articles:

US says Israel's use of weapons may have violated international law

The Biden administration on Friday said Israel might have violated international humanitarian law using U.S.-supplied weapons during its military operation in Gaza, in its strongest criticism to date of Israel. But the administration stopped short of a definitive assessment, saying that due to the chaos of the war in Gaza it could not verify specific instances where use of those weapons might have been involved in alleged breaches.

The assessment came in a 46-page unclassified State Department report to Congress required under a new National Security Memorandum (NSM) that President Joe Biden issued in early February. The findings risk further souring ties with Israel at a time when the allies are increasingly at odds over Israel's plans to strike Rafah, a move Washington has repeatedly warned against.

The Biden administration has already put a hold on one package of arms in a major policy shift and said the U.S. was reviewing others even as it reiterated long-term support for Israel. The State Department's report included contradictions: It listed numerous credible reports of civilian harm and said Israel did not at first cooperate with Washington to boost humanitarian assistance to the enclave. But in each instance it said it could not make a definitive assessment whether any breaches of law had occurred.

2024 election likely the last to be decided by US citizens - Musk

Musk

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has called the "massive influx of illegals from every country on Earth" the main factor.

The continuing influx of illegal immigrants into the US could mean that American citizens could cease to decide the outcome of elections in the country in the not-too-distant future, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has predicted. The South African-born billionaire claimed that the Democrats are wittingly refusing to address the issue, in the hope of skewing the balance in their favor.

Musk's recent comment came in response to Republican lawmakers passing the Equal Representation Act in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, which would require the Census Bureau to ask respondents about their citizenship in its ten-year surveys. GOP representatives want only US citizens to be counted when determining the number of congressional seats in each state.

Comment: BS: Since when have 'we the people' had the defining say in who becomes president? And those ten year voting surveys on illegal aliens? A joke.

'The collapse of dollar hegemony could lead to World War III' - Interview with finance expert Richard C. Cook

The following is a transcript on a an interview with Richard C. Cook conducted by Ahmed Danyal Arif, Editor of the Economics Section for The Review of Religions

ADA: Mr. Cook, first of all thank you so much for giving us a little of your precious time. We are very grateful for this. I have to be honest I don't know where to start as you have had such a long career in the US Government where you have essentially served (please correct me if I am wrong) as a policy analyst in the 70s and 80s. You then worked for NASA and ended your career in 2007 as a Project Manager in the US Treasury Department. You are now retired and writing with a particular focus on monetary reform. What led you to write about this?

RCC: I began to study monetary reform in 1979-1980 when I worked for the Carter White House in the office of consumer affairs. I had discovered the ideas of British engineer C.H. Douglas who explained the chronic gap in developed economies between GDP and national income, which meant that society never had enough money to purchase what their economies were able to produce. Some very notable people like Winston Churchill and Henry Ford were also aware of this. The system of Keynesian economics was developed to address the problem through government borrowing. But all this accomplished was to 'kick the can down the road' by creating debt that eventually had to be paid off, usually through war or hyperinflation.

A decade later I found myself working for the US Treasury Department, when I was able to carry out an in-depth study of the history of the US monetary system. I learned that the banking system existed to fill the GDP-income gap but that the debt it created in doing so led to massive profits to the banks but ruin for the nation at large. I also learned that the only successful alternative had been the spending of Greenbacks by the government during the Civil War. I then came into contact with Stephen Zarlenga who had founded the American Monetary Institute and was studying the same problems. Together we wrote the American Monetary Act which became Congressman Dennis Kucinich's NEED Act introduced in Congress in 2011 but not yet passed. This would create a modern version of Greenback money. So one thing led to another, and I am still writing about these things. My latest is my new book, Our Country, Then and Now to be published soon by Clarity Press.

House GOP drafts Biden impeachment articles over threat of Israel aid cutoff

Comment: But not apparently, for leaving a border unsecured in his own country . . .

'The House has no choice but to impeach President 'Quid pro Joe' Biden,' says Rep Cory Mills

Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., is preparing impeachment articles against President Biden over his threat to halt U.S. offensive aid to Israel, the first-term lawmaker told Fox News Digital on Thursday.

Mills accused Biden of forcing Israel into a "quid pro quo" situation by leveraging U.S. dollars against the Israeli government's actions in Gaza, drawing parallels to Democrats' first impeachment of former President Trump over his handling of Ukraine aid.

"The House has no choice but to impeach President 'Quid pro Joe' Biden. As Vice President, Biden was caught threatening to withhold funding and aid to Ukraine unless they fired the attorney general investigating Burisma, a company financially benefiting his son Hunter, not to mention the 10% share for 'the big guy' himself," Mills said in a statement.

Comment: The decision didn't come out of the blue. And while it may be that Biden's organization is scrambling to recover Democrat youth who are protesting Israel's genocide all over the country, there are also concrete legal concerns. Politico reports:
[M]ore than 90 lawyers have signed on to a legal letter alleging Israel's conduct in Gaza violates U.S. and international law.

A coalition of lawyers domestic and abroad — including at least 20 that work in the Biden administration — are calling on President Joe Biden to halt military aid to Israel, arguing that its actions in Gaza do not comply with U.S. and international humanitarian law.

They plan to send a letter arguing their case to Attorney General Merrick Garland and general counsels across the administration in the coming days. In the letter, obtained by POLITICO, the lawyers contend that Israel likely violated U.S. statutes including the Arms Export Control Act and Leahy Laws as well as the Geneva Conventions prohibiting disproportionate attacks on civilian populations.

[...]

Over the weekend, Reuters reported that some senior U.S. officials told Secretary of State Antony Blinken in an internal memo that they doubt the credibility of Israel's assurances on the use of U.S. supplied weapons in line with international law. And in February, more than 800 officials in the U.S. and abroad signed an open letter of dissent over their government's support for Israel's war in Gaza.

The lawyers argue that civil servants have a duty to give advice free from improper political direction, and cite indiscriminate bombardment of the besieged enclave resulting in high civilian casualties, the strikes on aid convoys and bombings of schools and hospitals as examples of violations.

"The law is clear and aligned with the majority of Americans who believe the U.S. should cease arms shipments to Israel until it stops its military operation in Gaza," the letter states, citing polling showing most Biden supporters want an arms embargo imposed.

The letter additionally calls for the Justice Department to investigate whether any U.S. citizens serving in the Israeli military may have committed war crimes that could be prosecuted under U.S. law.

Egypt announces intent to join South Africa in genocide case against Israel

ICJ international court justice Gaza palestine
Egypt announced on Sunday that it intends to formally join the lawsuit launched by South Africa before the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

A Foreign Ministry statement explained that the step comes "in light of the worsening severity and scope of Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip."

Israel's tanks were stationed in Rafah on Egypt's border with Gaza on Sunday for the sixth consecutive day since its military invaded the border crossing facility.

Comment: Considering Egypt's strategic location, and how it has remained relatively quiet and compliant with the genociders - up until now - in addition to the construction of the, ostensible, 'Gaza pier', and Israel's ominous 'Netzarim corridor', this development seems particularly notable:

Best of the Web: Geopolitical paradigm shifts and coping with psychopaths: An Interview with Professor Sergei A. Karaganov

karaganov
Tariq Marzbaan and Nora Hoppe interview Professor Karaganov from Russia's leading public foreign policy organisation, conversing with him on an array of issues, including Western escalation against Russia, the war in Ukraine, colonialism, and the genocide in Gaza.
It is clear that the Anglo-Saxon industrial-military-media complex, with the help of its vassals, intends to preserve its global hegemony and its colonialist conquests at all costs. The Hegemon cannot accept the paradigm shift of an emerging Multipolar World. Any discussion of peace, diplomacy, or negotiations regarding the wars it has started is out of the question. Western populations, whose minds are contaminated with neoliberalism and Russophobia, are currently terrified of an "imminent Russian invasion"... Mass delirium is preventing REASON from returning to the West. How can the rest of the world cope with this madness? And what can the rest of the world hope for?

We turn to Professor Sergei A. Karaganov* - Honorary Chairman of the Council for Foreign and Defence Policy (Russia's leading public foreign policy organisation) and academic supervisor of the Faculty of World Economics and World Politics of the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow - as he has long been offering insightful views on such topics as the use of nuclear deterrence as a wake-up call to the West to restore common sense and Russia's needed pivot away from the West and to the East.
