Signs Editorial:

Signs of the Times Joe Quinn 04/02/2006
So Sen. Pat Roberts has come out and backed the idiot Bush's divine right to conduct domestic spying. Well ain't that a doozie.

Of course, we shouldn't be surprised that the Chairman of a Senate committee whose purpose is to "provide vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States", would support the President in doing exactly the opposite. At this late stage in the transformation of American Democracy into Fascist tyranny, the truth is generally 180 degrees from what comes out of the mouth of the fascist leaders.

We should also remember that Roberts, along with Jay Rockefeller, delivered the utterly farcical Senate Intelligence Committee Report back in July 2004 which stated that the CIA, not the NeoCons, was to blame for the illegal invasion of Iraq. The failings of the inteligence community in general, Roberts told us, was that the CIA fed dodgy intelligence to the poor, well-meaning Bush administration, intelligence that somehow led shy, retiring Dick Cheney to think that Saddam posed an immediate threat to the U.S. and forced him, against his natural pacifist nature, to engage in a bloody invasion that killed 100,000 Iraqi civilians. How tragic! The fact that Cheney visited CIA headquarters 12 times in the run up to the Iraq invasion in repeated attempts to force the CIA to come up with something, anything, that would provide justification for an invasion, somehow escaped entry into Robert's report. We can surmise, therefore, that Roberts, like Rockefeller, is one of the key players who are working behind the scenes to perpetuate the phony war on terror.

Just to give you an idea of how stupid Roberts thinks you are, he actually tried to tell Americans that the reason that the CIA screwed up so royally and fed the Bush administration faulty Intel on Iraq's WMDs, was all due to something he likes to call group think:

The committee concluded that the intelligence community was suffering from what we call a collective group-think, which led analysts and collectors and managers to presume that Iraq had active and growing WMD programs. This group-think caused the community to interpret ambiguous evidence, such as the procurement of dual-use technology, as conclusive evidence of the existence of WMD programs.

"Suffering from a collective group think"!!? Seriously, where do they get this BS? If they wanted us to swallow this stuff they could at least have someone more convincing than a strawberry-nosed old cretin and a nancy-boy from a corrupt American dynasty to present it.

But Roberts' duplicity didn't end there. Interviewed on CNN about one year ago, the old bugger claimed that he and Rockefeller wanted to make sure that the same intelligence screw-up did not recur when dealing with Iran:

BLITZER: Let me ask you this question. Because I remember you were on here a few months ago, and you suggested that, yes, you voted for the war, the authorization for the president to go to war in Iraq. Later, based on the findings there were no WMD that the U.S. could find, you regretted that vote.

How do you feel now in the aftermath of this election and the results announced today?

ROCKEFELLER: The same way. Because I had -- the vote, which was that moment in time, back then, it was based upon information which turned out not to be correct.

And I think that's why Pat Roberts and I both feel very strongly that when we get to Iran, that we can't make the same mistakes. We have to ask the questions, the hard questions before, not afterwards, and get the right intelligence.

So where are you now Roberts? You decrepit, pompous halfwit! Where is your resolve to make sure the same lies are not told about Iran that will surely lead to the massacre of thousands of innocent Iranians by "brave American troops"? Are you aware that the IAEA has made it clear that Iran has no nukes? Are you aware that that imbecile puppet President of yours is yet again making unfounded claims about Iran as if they were proven fact? Or perhaps when you talked about "getting the right intelligence on Iran" and "not making the same mistakes that were made with Iraq", you just meant that you wanted to make sure that the pack of lies you and your buddies come up with about Iran are more plausible than the pathetically obvious attempts to wrongly demonise Saddam.

Next time, before you decide to appear on television and present yourself as an authority to the American public while treating us to a load of old tripe, do us all a favor and book yourself into a nursing home instead where you are sure to find a captive audience for your fantastical nonsense among the other dribbling old farts. You should understand that the American public can see through you. They can see that you and your cohorts are either terminally senile or a bunch of raving psychopaths, either way, you have no place in American political life, unless it's to organise more midnight tours of the White House for Presidential rent boys.
