at Dusk We received a response on the Signs Interactive page to a comment we made yesterday. It offers the opportunity to look at the question of purpose in more detail. We wrote:
This comment provoked a long reaction from a reader in the USA. Reader: Come now, is this not rather harsh? Harsh? We thought we were being kind. The esoteric tradition discussed by Gurdjieff and Mouravieff states quite clearly they have a role, and we thought we would try to inject a positive note into the text even if it is not one of those things that can be readily verified. We quote from Mouravieff:
Under the somewhat antiseptic language of esoteric Christianity, we see the idea that man is food "for the moon," and thereby fulfils his place in the cosmic order of things. Can man become something more? Yes, of course. That something more and how to do it is the main subject of Mouravieff's book. However, to become that something more entails a conscious choice to remove oneself from what Mouravieff terms the General Law. It means giving oneself an AIM rather than accepting the predefined purpose determined by the universe. As is always the case, if one does not take one's life into one's hands and makes one's own decisions, the universe will make those decisions for you -- and they will not necessarily be in the best interest of your Real 'I'. To give oneself an AIM has the consequence of setting oneself against the General Law. That is when esoteric work really begins. Reader: Are you not perhaps allowing bitterness and cynicism to cloud your vision? Stating the cold, hard truths of existence, that is, seeing objective reality, might seem bitter and cynical to some. For us, on the contrary, it is reassuring to know that we aren't crazy and that there is an explanation for the state of the world and the terror of the situation. Reader: I understand your point, but it is easy to become disheartened and succumb to despair, as we observe the ever more blatant activities of the Controllers and their henchmen, in these disturbing and transitional times. You mention "these disturbing and transitional times." What do you think we are transitioning to? Something better? Something worse? What determines the outcome? For our part, we think that Mother Nature is preparing to rid herself of the melanoma spreading across her skin. If one identifies with humanity, this might be cause for despair. If one identifies with Creation, it is a time for rejoicing. Reader: Unless we are privy to the mind of the Creator ourselves, how can we know what part another plays in the Creation? Exactly. So how can you be so certain that any of us are MORE than food for the moon? Might not this be simply wishful thinking on your part? The argument about knowing the mind of the Creator argument cuts both ways. Because we cannot know the mind of the Creator, we must look at WHAT IS, at objective reality. What do we see when we look at the world, at the objective relations between people? If you study the relations between humans, be they the relations of groups or the relations of individuals, you can see feeding. People are feeding off of each other all the time. It is constant. Given the existence of continual feeding, we can state that we are food. We said above that the idea of the esoteric Tradition that we are food for the moon is difficult to verify. It concerns a realm about which we have no direct experience. Therefore, we treat it is an hypothesis. We can accumulate data about the world and see whether or not it fits the hypothesis. We may never be able to "prove" or "disprove" this hypothesis, but we can assign it greater or lesser weights of probability. The feeding frenzy that we see in front of us day in and day out certainly gives weight to the possibility of a feeding frenzy in other realms. As above, so below; as below, so above. Reader: How, for example, can we blame the most helpless and fragile of our civilization for the plight they find themselves in? The forgotten, poverty-stricken and diseased -- the homeless and oppressed. Even those who live mindless lives of materialistic pleasure, having succumbed to the lures of western capitalism? We do not assign blame. We attempt to state the facts from where we are looking out over the panorama of human existence. It is not a pretty sight. There are billions of people on this planet who are born, suffer, and die - for what purpose? To permit them to fall in love, have a family, and continue the chain of life and death? How many people have an AIM in their lives? How many people accept the purpose given to them by the universe? These people are FOOD. Pure and simple. They are FOOD. Their pain, their suffering, their despair are a great banquet. If you reread the first paragraph from Mouravieff above, you'll see that everything that is considered a part of daily life, including the "good parts," that is, love and family, falls under the shadow of Death. It is part of the process of being FOOD. Reader: Do the Higher Selves of reincarnating beings make 'poor choices' -- or do we all together create a magnificent, symbiotic, holographic melodrama wherein some evolve a bit more quickly than others? Does everyone have a Higher Self? Or does one create and build that Higher Self through one's choices and work? We do not believe that everyone on this planet has a Higher Self. Some may have the potential for a Higher Self, but not everyone. See our article on Organic Portals. See our work on psychopaths. As for the grand scheme of things, perhaps from the point of view of the Creator, the tapestry of life is as you describe. Everything has its place in the Cosmic Scheme of Things. Unfortunately, from where we are stuck, part of Creation is attempting to kill off another part of Creation: Entropy tries to bring existence into non-existence, tries to negate Creation. It isn't pretty, and perhaps we make "poor", but necessary, choices until we learn not to. Reader: I believe there is dignity and beauty in every Being upon this Earth, human or otherwise -- and that that is always reflected, visible in that Being's eyes and/or through the frequency signature that radiates, however feebly, through its heart-centre. Where does your belief come from? What do you see in George Bush's eyes when he stands before you with his crooked smirk emoting on "freedom"? What do you sense radiating from his "heart-centre"? What do you see in Ariel Sharon's eyes? What do you sense radiating from his "heart-centre"? Do they even have a "heart-centre"? We know people who have no light whatsoever in their eyes. They are the living DEAD. You don't need to go to the cinema to see them. Reader: I also believe that we are doomed if we lose faith in that Divine spark animating all here, at the most intrinsic, intimate level. That it is there, within the least of us -- and yet as well within those who fancy themselves amongst the 'highest' echelon of humanity, and who abuse their privileges....as, even with these oppressors of their own kind, there still lives that energetic connection to Source...buried though it may be. We think that we are doomed if we continue to believe the fairy tales that everyone is basically good and everyone is animated by the same manifestation of the Divine Spark. We think that there are two evolutionary paths, one leads towards Creation, the other towards entropy. The default position in this world is entropy. To align oneself with the Creative path, one must make the choice to change direction, one must ACT, one must DO. But to DO, one must stop being mechanical, stop being a machine to whom things happen and must develop one's will to become the actor. But before, one must recognize that one is a machine, and that the spark, if still lit, is weak indeed. The level of self-deception between these two positions - mechanical being and willed being -- is enormous. Entropy masquerades as Creation, obscuring the difference between the two, luring us with nonsense about the "Divine spark" that we all share. If you see only one, it is because you see only the dark light of entropy, the pulsing "heart-centre" of its latest victim being swallowed up. Reader: So, what I am saying is that, though some or all of our energy may be simply supplying 'food' to these Controllers, all of us nevertheless retain that energetic connection to Source which can never be completely severed. We must never give up our belief in the intrinsic beauty, hope and dignity with which every creature here has been endowed, by virtue of this inalienable affiliation with the Divine Mind and participatory rights to the Law of One. It is a question of whether that link with the SOURCE goes up or down, is it via the ascending, Creative aspect of the Source or the descending, entropic aspect of the Source. Both are part of the Source, yes, but their manifestations are the mirror opposites of each other. And this is one of the big illusions people have so much trouble giving up. People do not want to believe that there are Bad People. People do not want to believe that this is the world of the Demiurge, the Devil. People do not want to believe that the default position on this planet is negative, entropic. "How can this be the Devil's world? Just look outside, see the trees, the flowers, the fuzzy, warm little animals. See how much Mommy loves Daddy and all their love for little Baby!" Moreover, both paths are paths of Love, although Creation is love of all creation and Entropy is love of self. Confuse the two and you are lunch. We have been hypnotized to discern no difference.
People prefer to believe that "every creature here has been endowed with an intrinsic beauty, hope, and dignity." It makes them docile. It keeps them in their pens. Where is George Bush's intrinsic beauty, hope, and dignity? What do you see in HIS eyes? Where is Ariel Sharon's intrinsic beauty, hope, and dignity? What do you see in HIS eyes? Rather than hanging on to a belief in intrinsic beauty, hope, and dignity, we think that we must recognize that this exists only in potential. One must work for it. One must earn it. To do so, one must begin to see things are they are, in all the horror. One must come face to face with despair and continue on in spite of it. Click here to comment on this commentary

to hold detainees at Guantanamo indefinitely WASHINGTON -- Most of the 595 suspected terrorists detained by the United States at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be held indefinitely, even though there is not yet enough evidence to charge them with crimes, a senior Pentagon official said in an interview with the Globe. The accounting by Paul W. Butler, special assistant to Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, was the first acknowledgment by the government that hundreds of detainees will probably be held without facing military tribunals. Officials have spoken publicly about the prospect of indefinite detentions for some, but they had not disclosed that the majority could be held until the war on terrorism is finished. Unless the US Supreme Court intervenes, the Bush administration plans to hold the prisoners who it believes are dangerous or who can provide useful information in fighting Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. ''What I'm saying is that there is a large percentage right now who are either high threat or high intelligence value, that right now there's no intention to try them before a military commission," Butler told the Globe. ''They're dangerous. And we have a responsibility, both to our forces . . . and the rest of the world, to not let those people back out Comment: With "al-Qaeda" a phony creation of US and Israeli intelligence agencies, and the Taleban no different that the current bunch of cut-throats staffing the US government by proxy in Afghanistan, it is clear that the unfortunates being held in Guantanamo are there for a reason that has nothing to do with the "war on terror". There will be no court hearings, not even a military tribunal, for these men, probably because any public discussion of their cases would reveal officially that there is no case against them, and may even expose the real reason they are being held. As far as deciding what possible "use" these men could be put to by the psychopaths currently running the US, let your imagination be your guide... Flashback: US turns to torture to crack prisoners of war By Dana Priest
and Barton Gellman Deep inside the forbidden zone at the United States-occupied Bagram air base in Afghanistan are a cluster of metal shipping containers protected by a triple layer of concertina wire. The containers hold the most valuable prizes in the US-led war in Afghanistan - suspected al-Qaeda operatives and Taliban commanders. Those who refuse to co-operate inside the secret CIA interrogation centre are sometimes kept standing or kneeling for hours, in black hoods or spray-painted goggles, intelligence specialists familiar with CIA interrogation methods say. At times they are held in awkward, painful positions and deprived of sleep with a 24-hour bombardment of lights - subject to what are known as "stress and duress" techniques. Those who co-operate are rewarded by interrogators whose methods include feigned friendship, respect, cultural sensitivity and, in some cases, money. The most hardened cases are turned over - "rendered", in official parlance - to foreign intelligence services whose practice of torture has been documented by the US Government and human rights organisations. US officials have said little publicly about interrogation methods, but interviews with former intelligence officials and 10 current national security officials, some of whom have seen the handling of prisoners, provide insight into how the US Government is conducting this part of the war. The picture that emerges is of a brass-knuckled quest for information, often in concert with allies of dubious human-rights reputation, in which the traditional lines between right and wrong, legal and inhumane, are evolving and blurred. While the US Government publicly denounces the use of torture, all of the national security officials interviewed defended the use of violence against captives as "just and necessary", and they were confident the American public would back their view. The CIA, which has responsibility for interrogations, declined to comment. "If you don't violate someone's human rights some of the time, you probably aren't doing your job," said one official who has supervised the capture and transfer of accused terrorists. "I don't think we want to be promoting a view of zero tolerance on this."
Comment: Proud to be American? Proud to be included in the bloodthirsty predatorial mass that makes up the human race? You are part of it. We are all part of it, right up until the moment that we decide to begin the task of unseating the predator in us. The choice is yours.
Comment: Remember, Padilla is accused of making a "dirty bomb" for "al-Qaeda", the Israeli/US "straw man". Hamdi is "accused" of fighting against the US army when they invaded and occupied his country. Both clearly are being set up to be tried and prosecuted as US citizen "enemy combatants", thereby providing a precedent for doing the exactly the same to any other US citizen that the NeoCons deem a "threat" to the homeland. Consider the fact that in Ashcroft's eyes, you, dear reader, simply by reading this page, could be seen as just such a "threat".

myths prevent and pervert rational debate
This time around, wouldn't you know, the Christian religion and the Jews are working together again. Evangelicals are doing everything they can to support Israel's monstrous policies because they figure, according to the script featured in the Bible's Book of Revelation, that their wished-for messiah will arrive after Armageddon happens in Israel. The U.S. government appears to be following this script, doing everything it can to make sure it happens. Thus, consider this psychotic religious alliance: evangelical Christians support Israel because Israel is intent on blowing itself up, thereby enabling the Christian messiah - you know, the Horus clone and his father El Shaddai - to return to Earth and choose 144,000 of their most pious followers to come and board and trek off to (ha) God knows where. The Israelis keep taking money from the evangelicals (as well as all Americans through excessive foreign aid), but prohibit visiting Christians from talking about Jesus while they're there. The Jews won't make the mistake they made in Rome. Now, they have the nukes. And a time-tested argument is now on their side, instead of working against them. It goes like this. Once you can get people to believe things you can definitely prove are not true, you can get them to believe anything. Are you listening, Baby Jesus? No, I didn't think so. Mythological political constructs don't hear that well. The claim that Israel has a right to steal all that land in the Middle East because of some Biblical reference is utterly false, for a multitude of reasons, only some of which have been alluded to here. The
human race desperately needs to understand the difference between its
need to believe and what it actually believes in. But by the time we figure
that out, it will probably be too late, and the evangelicals will get
their wish. The human race, grasshoppers and all, will get that same wish,
too - that death wish. Click here to comment on this article Ghassan Charbel Al-Hayat 2004/04/25 The world is scared. We could even say it is frightened. for photo Americans weren't meant to see Comment: As we said a few days ago, this is mind control, pure and simple. Think about it rationally. When the average American hears that there are photos that "Americans weren't meant to see" and that, shock! horror!, someone was actually fired for sharing them, the first thing most are going to do is attempt to see them. Similar pictures were obtained by another "1st Amendment activist" (read dupe) who filed for them under the freedom of information act. Does anyone really believe that US government intelligence agencies are not monitoring all applications for information under the freedom of information act? Does anyone really believe that if they so desired, the same intelligence agencies could not deny public access to certain files? The final result of this leaking of photos that "Americans were not meant to see", is that an unprecedented number of Americans will now go out of their way to gaze upon images like the below which are designed to arouse subtle patriotic emotion that serve merely to lull the masses into an even deeper state of sleep. It is all too easy for "the powers that be" to control every aspect of what the people think, feel and believe. Lambs to the slaughter. further in the country and make the increasingly frantic attempts by the
US-led coalition to ensure security and stability even harder. [...] Yesterday,
a rocket attack killed four US soldiers at a base north of Baghdad, bringing
the number of US soldiers killed in April so far to 100, the highest total

half the 135,000 US soldiers in Iraq deployed on active combat, military
experts describe the death toll as 'significant'. Comment: Syria next? There is no withdrawing from the quagmire, nor was such ever seriously intended. The neocons' and Zionists' mission is meant to lead to Armageddon, no less, so why would there be need for an "exit strategy?" Rushing More Armored Humvees to Iraq NAJAF, Iraq - Deafening noise, confusion and fear erupted as the roadside bomb slammed into the U.S. Army Humvee, knocking over Spc. Stephen Monti, who was manning a gun in the turret. "Then we started checking whether we still had our 10 fingers on," Monti recalled of the recent ambush south of Baghdad. Not only had all four soldiers escaped injury, but the vehicle — which had been fortified by armor plating and bulletproof glass — came through with just a few dents and a cracked windshield. "There probably would have been wounds, maybe mortal ones, in your basic Humvee," said Monti, of St. Louis. "Every vehicle that goes out on the road should be 'up-armored.' Your safety is dramatically increased." [...] When the war began, only about 2 percent of Army's 110,000 Humvees were armored. Now, of the nearly 15,000 Humvees in Iraq, about 1,500 to 2,000 are armored, according to the Army. The numbers are increasing. [...] Comment: Wow, that means as many as 13% of the Humvees in Iraq are now armored! That leaves a staggering 87% that will end up being deathtraps for the soldiers that Bush and Americans claim to love so much. And in the middle of the dogfight -- in which Eunice Crowder was pepper-sprayed, Tasered and knocked to the ground by Portland's courageous men in blue -- the poor woman's fake right eye popped out of its socket and was bouncing around in the dirt. How vicious and ugly can the Portland police get? Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winner. This 2003 case is so blatant, the use of force so excessive, the threat of liability so intimidating that the city just approved a $145,000 settlement. But all those gung-ho fans of the cops can relax. Nothing has changed. Nothing will upset the status quo. The cops aren't apologizing. The cops aren't embarrassed. The cops haven't been disciplined. And the cops are still insisting, to the bitter end, that they "reasonably believed" this blind ol' bat was a threat to their safety and macho culture. Eunice Crowder, you see, didn't follow orders. Eunice was uncooperative. Worried a city employee was hauling away a family heirloom, a 90-year-old red toy wagon, she had the nerve to feel her way toward the trailer in which her yard debris was being tossed. Enter the police. Eunice, who is hard of hearing, ignored the calls of Officers Robert Miller and Eric Zajac to leave the trailer. When she tried, unsuccessfully, to bite the hands that were laid on her, she was knocked to the ground. When she kicked out at the cops, she was pepper-sprayed in the face with such force that her prosthetic marble eye was dislodged. As she lay on her stomach, she was Tased four times with Zajac's electric stun gun. And when Nellie Scott, Eunice's 94-year-old mother, tried to rinse out her daughter's eye with water from a two-quart Tupperware bowl, what does Miller do? According to Ernie Warren Jr., Eunice's lawyer, the cop pushed Nellie up against a fence and accused her of planning to use the water as a weapon. Paranoia runs deep. Into your life it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid . . . Afraid and belligerent. "Cops have changed," Warren said. "When I grew up, they weren't people who huddled together and their only friends were the cops. You had access to them all the time. You weren't afraid of them." What did Police Chief Derrick Foxworth have to say about the case? "This did not turn out the way we wanted it to turn out," Foxworth said Friday. "Looking back, and I know the officers feel this as well, they may have done something differently. We would have wanted the minimal amount of force to have been used. But I feel we need to recognize Ms. Crowder has some responsibility. She contributed to the situation." As if it wasn't enough that "we the people" must endure the continuous stream of lies and BS from the powers that about the nature of reality and our place in it, now we must resign ourselves to the fact that the enemy is within and well as without. As we have often said, it seems that the central tenet of our existence is that our present reality and any possible future reality we might find ourselves in, is determined by the quality of the observations of the collective observers. The more objectively we SEE "what Is" the more chance we have to choose the nature of our future. It is in this way that we can truly participate in our existence. The "powers that be" know this and it is for this reason that our entire world is built on disinformation and outright lies and illusion. To prop up and perpetuate this dire state of affairs, "the powers that be" use "agents" - seemingly rationale and well educated people, often with "impeccable sources" - to do their bidding in ensuring that, at the crucial juncture, the masses of humanity are "looking in the wrong direction", so to speak. Tom Bearden appears to be just this sort of "agent". In the below article, posted on Rumour Mill News, Mr Bearden presents us with the theory that the Japanese Yakuza, of all people, are planning the complete destruction of the United States, if not the entire planet. Of course, he has "impeccable sources", but sadly for all truth seekers, he will not divulge who these sources are - perhaps because they would be laughed at if he did. It's funny, saying that one has "impeccable sources that cannot be revealed, is like saying I have an invisible friend, and he is real, but of course, because he is invisible you cannot see him, but he IS real, really! Horse Hockey alert!
Well thank you Mr Bearden! Where would we be if we didn't have 'ol Tom to warn us that the Japanese Yakuza are about to blow us all to Kingdom come. A good yardstick for Tom's grasp on reality can be seen in his comment that "these groups are not as rational as nations might be". We wonder which "rational nations" he is talking about? The US perhaps? Maybe the U.K.?
Of course! It all makes sense! We mean why wouldn't the Japanese mob want to destroy the US, and what better way than to simply get your hands on a scalar weapon (available from you local quicky mart) and then direct it at Yellowstone national park caldera. Simple! Why didn't we think of it! In fact, now that we do think of it, the last time we visited Yellowstone, we were wondering what that team of dodgy looking Japanese mobsters with complicated seismological instruments were doing. Now we know!
Yes indeed, the grave danger to humanity is not the fact that evidence from impeccable, verifiable sources suggests that the earth goes through cyclic, cataclysmic destructions that are tied to the "human experiential cycle". Forget the objective evidence that in the past year there have been a dozen or more impacts and sightings. Everyone should just forget about all that and ponder the idea that those crazy Japanese are gonna Zap us all with a scalar weapon.
Oooh! "Much more deadly than Al-Qaeda!" Well, that wouldn't be hard since "al-Qaeda", as Bearden is referring to them, do not exist. Tom has it, from his anonymous and unverifiable "impeccable resources" that the Japanese mobsters are " absolutely dedicated to the total destruction of the United States." Why? well.. because Tom's "impeccable sources" say so, that why! And you can't get much more impeccable than that! (apparently)
We have to agree with Tom on this one, it was only last week that we saw some sort of subliminal hypnotic opener in the clouds above our house. Clear evidence that the Japanese mob were after us. Not only that, but have any of you noticed an abnormal hankering for Sushi lately? More evidence that the Yakuza are not only messing with our clouds, but our minds too!! Okay, nuff said, we can't take anymore. Tom goes on to blame scalar weapons on everything from gay rights to the breakdown of society. It's amazing the amount of horse hockey a monthly brown envelope can produce. Click here to comment on this article Half-Naked
Couple Cause Stir Up a Tree NEW YORK
(Reuters) - Two gay lovers took off most of their clothes, climbed up
a tree in New York's Central Park and spent four hours engaging in sex
acts and yelling abuse at police and firefighters. The two unidentified gay lovers protested their families' lack of understanding for their relationship by climbing the Central Park tree. The couple, described by officials as a 32-year-old transsexual with female breasts wearing a purple thong and a 17-year-old boy in white boxer shorts, were admitted to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation. At one point during the standoff in the larch tree -- an evergreen with pine-like needles -- the 32-year-old rejected a police officer's offer of a can of soda. "This is a Coke. I wanted vanilla Diet Pepsi," he was quoted as saying in newspaper reports. Comment: Ah, humanity. Whether an experiment gone wrong, or an experiment in the flush of success, one thing is beyond doubt; we are an experiment.
