A huge fireball hurled across the night sky in Spain at an approximate speed of 72,000 kilometers per hour. It was visible in all parts of the country and is believed to be a piece of an asteroid.

The fireball was first spotted by Spanish scientists at 22:25 local time on Sunday as it passed over the southern regions of Andalucia, Granada and Jaen.

The object was described as a part of an asteroid to El Pais by Jose Maria Madiedo, an astrophysicist of the University of Huelva.

It was "considerable in size" so that "it could survive its passage through the Earth's atmosphere," Madiedo told Europa Press.

Meteor fireball photographed hurtling towards ground in Wraysbury, UK

Two young eagle-eyed sisters from Wraysbury were on hand to catch an astronomically rare photograph of a meteor hurtling towards the ground last weekend.

Phoebe, 12, and Jasmine Hale, 13, from Douglas Lane, spotted the burning space rock from a bedroom window in their house before running outside to the Wraysbury carp fishing lake behind their house to capture it on camera.

The girls' mother, Jamie Hale, said the sisters thought it might have been something else at first. She said: "Phoebe was looking out of her bedroom window at the back of the house and she could see something with flames falling from the sky.

"At first she thought it was a plane going down! "She ran down to the bank of the lake with Jasmine and Jasmine took her phone and took the photo.

"They said it was falling really fast and they watched it until it went out of sight. "They realised, when watching it, that it was a small meteor."

People in the Republic of Khakassia in southwest Siberia witnessed a large fireball exploding in the sky on Tuesday, which briefly made the evening as bright as the day. Some even managed to catch the event on camera.

Reports of the rare occurrence came from practically the whole of Khakassia, as well as from the neighboring Krasnoyarsk Region, local news website xakac.info reports.

Blazing fireball sighting over Scotland was probably meteor

A sighting of a fireball blazing its way across the sky near Annan has prompted more reports

An appeal by the UK Meteor Observation Network (UKMON) for sightings at about 5.15 pm last Wednesday prompted an account from someone driving from Eaglesfield to Annan.

Adding to the reports, Helen Carruthers said: "I saw a very bright white light for a few seconds as I was walking the dog in Ecclefechan on Wednesday at the time stated, and it travelled from left to right, then just disappeared."

Ed Woodman has also added his own account of the sighting. He said: "At approximately 5.15 pm I was approaching the the Tesco roundabout from Eastriggs when I noticed a light object with a faint trail behind it, shooting across the sky from east to west "It was moving at tremendous speed and initially I thought it was a low flying fighter jet. "But then, as it suddenly flared bright white, it disappeared."

Mark Toner from Dumfries Astronomy Society says November was a busy month for meteor sightings. Addressing the local sightings, Mark said: "If it was west to east I'd say they'd seen the International Space Station. "But the fact it's going east to west — there's very few things that do that in the evening like that and then disappear, because they're heading towards the sun."

Fireball alert! Eight NEO asteroids will approach Earth in December

Fireball - stock image

There are currently eight known NEO Asteroids discovered that will pass within approximately 10LD or less (LD stands for "Lunar Distance"), in the month of December 2016. I expect that 10-35 NEOs or more, 10LD or less, will be discovered before month end.

Expect some spectacular bolides, fireballs, and meteors this month and especially large ones 3-5 days before and following the passing of the less than 10LD NEOs and fifteen small mountain-sized NEO asteroids, diameters ranging from 400m-2.0km, that will safely pass this month.

Meteor reported blazing across sky in Denmark

Many report seeing a fireball light up the dark winter sky

A meteor blazed across the Danish sky on Monday evening, according to astrophysicist Tina Ibsen from the Tycho Brahe Planetarium in Copenhagen.

People from all over the country have reported seeing a fireball streak through the sky at about 18:30.

"We have received many inquiries from people who saw a fireball," Ibsen told TV2.

"However, no-one has reported a bang or a sound, which indicates the meteor burnt up before it hit the Earth's surface."

Ibsen contends the phenomenon of a 'shooting star' is nothing unusual.

Each year the Earth is hit by some 100,000 tonnes of meteoroids from outer space, but most of them burn up before they hit the ground.

Comment: A meteor was also captured on video over Słupsk, Poland.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) received 18 reports about a fireball seen over the Netherlands and surrounding regions on Monday, November 28th 2016 around 04:42 UT.

Meteor fireball 'tore up the skies' in northeast Brazil

20-30 Second Duration with Sonics Reported

On the night of that last Saturday (26) a big meteor tore up the skies of Ceará and Piauí. It could be seen, in addition to these two states, by Maranhão, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia.

Unfortunately, none of the cameras monitoring of BRAMON recorded the event, but we managed to collect around 40 reports in several cities close to what has happened and from these reports, we set up a trajectory estimated for the object, which can be seen in this map.

The object began to shine on the ocean, next to the city of Fortaleza, and crossed the Ceará from north to south, passing near Crateús, where we received several reports. Entered the state of Piaui and went about the city of peaks.

There are reports that it was beyond the state of Piauí, toward the Bahia, but even if I don't have to come to both, the juggernaut presents pretty impressive numbers:
- lasted something between 20 and 30 seconds.
- travelled over 600 miles in the atmosphere.
- had a speed between 20 and 30 km / sec.
Until this moment, is very low the possibility that this is a re-entry of space junk, but still have not ruled out the possibility. The more likely it is that in the case of a meteor buzz, also called earthgrazer.

Comment: One of the reports made by a resident in the city of Hidrolândia said the fireball had an orange, yellow tone and was followed by noise similar to thunder.

This video uploaded to YouTube shows two overhead flashes in Surgut, Western Siberia on 22nd November 2016. The description indicates a thunder-like crackling sound was also heard. Was this lightning or another type of electrical discharge? Or perhaps overhead meteor explosions?

Comment: Earlier this year unexplained flashes of light puzzled residents of Petrozavodsk, Russia.

House in Indonesia hit by meteorite

Residents of Sungai Serut District, Bengkulu City, were surprised by a rock that is alleged to be a meteor that ripped through a house owned by Wahab (56), on Wednesday, November 24, 2016.

At the time of the incident, according to Wahab, he was having a casual conversation with his friend. Suddenly, they heard a loud thump from the inside of his house. The noise originated from his kitchen.

After a quick search, Wahab found a rounded smoky object that is as big as a basketball that had made it through his kitchen roof. "Not only did it hit the roof, the rock also destroyed the water dispenser and a water gallon, as well as a table," he said.

Wahab and a number of his friends flushed the rock with water and placed it outside the house. The locals broke the white-colored rock to pieces and gave it to a number of people as they believe that the meteorite has a certain effect.

The rest of the rock has been handed over to the police.
