Two bright meteor fireballs streak over Argentina and Brazil, sonic boom reported

Flash from meteor fireball over Argentina
A flash in the sky was reported over Misiones, Argentina.
A bright meteor fireball streaked through the night sky over Argentina on October 15, 2018, illuminating both sky and ground.

Sergio Toscano, former director of the Adolfo Kolping Observatory of Posadas, claims the flash that lit the southern sky of Misiones and the north of Corrientes was produced by a meteor, reports Clarin.

Toscano said: "I am inclined to think that it was a meteor that when in contact with the Earth's atmosphere became incandescent to the point of exploding and fragmenting."

Social networks were populated with comments about a fleeting light that lit up the sky for a few seconds. In the area of Concepción de la Sierra, in Misiones, there was an explosion in the sky and a 'slight earthquake' that was felt in the homes.

Gobernador Virasoro, a firefighter who witnessed the incident said, "it was practically daytime," according to Teletrece.

The space rock, which landed on a private home in Komaki, 250 km southwest of Tokyo, split into several pieces before reaching its final destination.

An analysis completed by Japan's State Museum of Science confirmed that the rock, which crashed into our planet on September 26 at about 10:30 pm was indeed a meteorite, Japanese public broadcaster NHK has reported.

The rock, which caused damage to the house's roof and caused a loud noise upon impact, split into at least three pieces after entering Earth's atmosphere. The meteorite bits found in the home's garden, measured 10, 5 and 4 centimeters in diameter, respectively.

Eagle-eyed Eugene residents out and about around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening were treated to a spectacular display as a fireball flashed across the sky.

The American Meteor Society website received about 20 reports of a fireball that was extremely bright and broke up as it headed west. Many people reported that the fireball was green in color and lasted about two to three seconds.

Bob Grossfeld, observatory manager at the Oregon Observatory at Sunriver Nature Center, said he didn't see the fireball — most of central Oregon was socked in by cloud cover at the time. The object could have been a meteor from the tail end of a recent meteor shower or it might have been a bit of space junk returning to Earth, he said.

A meteor streaked across the skies of the Washington region on Monday night, witnessed by a relative few, but described as impressive by those fortunate enough to see it.

As of late Tuesday, the American Meteor Society said it had received 15 reports "about a fireball" seen over Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania about 11:30 p.m. on Monday.

Slashing silently across the skies, most frequently seen at night, meteors seem to disrupt the normal overhead order of things, and in their speed and brilliance, often arouse sensations of awe and a sense of the mysterious.

A report from Oakland, Md, called it "bright white like staring at the sun." It then seemed to turn orange, the report said.

A very bright meteor fireball was observed and filmed over Reunion island on September 25, 14h 10min UT reports the International Meteor Organization (IMO). It was recorded by NASA/CNEOS government sensors, and was the third most energetic meteoric event of 2018.

According to the NASA (National American Space Agency) CNEOS (Center for Near Earth Objects Studies) department, the meteor was detected by government sensors, and the calculated impact energy was close to 1.9 kT, which is the third most energetic meteor event since the beginning of the year. It occurred South of the two islands, over the Indian Ocean, leaving no chances of finding associated meteorites. Previous energetic events were recorded over Russia on June 21, and Greenland on July 25.

Just over a year ago a very bright meteor fireball exploded over Mauritius and Reunion Islands in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, September 14, 2017.

A video of the latest event was recorded from Reunion showing a very bright meteor fireball lighting up the sky.

Early in the morning on Monday, September 24th there were reports of fireballs streaking across the sky in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada. That includes Michiana reports from Goshen and Syracuse.

These fireballs happen every day in large numbers. They are not always documented, though, because a majority of them occur over bodies of water and rural land. They are sometimes a part of meteor showers, which occur throughout the year. If watching a meteor shower is something you want to do, there are six more set to occur in 2018:

Meteor fireball streaks over Alabama

The fireball seen in five Southern states Saturday night was only about 5 inches wide and weighed 4 pounds, NASA says. The meteor's speed through the atmosphere of 56,000 miles per hour didn't leave enough left to create any meteorites.

NASA cameras in northeast Georgia and North Carolina caught the meteor at 10:11 p.m. CDT, but their distance and positions made it impossible to compute its path. However, NASA meteoroid expert Dr. Bill Cooke said an analysis of eyewitness accounts puts the meteor's origin about 56 miles above Oak Bowery, Ala., just north of Auburn. It traveled 38 miles through the atmosphere before burning up 26 miles above the town of Cragford.

Eyewitnesses in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee reported seeing the fireball.

Comment: Last month a very bright meteor fireball with sonic boom lit up the Alabama sky.

His son thought the "Russians were coming".

And dad Steven Woolcock admits he's puzzled by a 'fireball' which flew over Stanley on Sunday evening.

His footage shows a bright object flying high above the County Durham sky.

"I thought it may have been a plane at first, but you couldn't see any sort of shape - just a streak," said the 35-year-old.

"I checked Flight Radar and there was a plane going over at 45,000ft at that time, but not where we were."

Comment: Unfortunately, the anti-Russian propaganda is working.
