Two men die as lightning bolt strikes them in Uttar Pradesh, India

LIGHTNING
Two men died when lightning struck at Chillaha village under Kalinjar police station area here, the police said.

Luvkush (18) and Sunil (22) were killed and two others, including a woman, received burns in the incident which occurred on Thursday evening, CO Naraini, Ajay Singh Chauhan, said on Friday.

The deceased were cousins and they were sitting outside their house when the lightning struck, the CO said, adding that the injured were hospitalised.

Six struck dead by lightning in two districts of Pakistan

LIGHTNING
At least six people, including three women, were reportedly killed due to lightning strikes during monsoon showers in Tharparkar and Mirpurkhas districts on Wednesday and Thursday. The early monsoon showers started pouring on lower Sindh on Wednesday with the Meteorological department recording the highest rainfall of 12 millimetres (mm) in Badin district and 8mm in Thatta district.

Two young men were struck by lightning in Jhuddo town of Mirpurkhas Thursday afternoon. One of them, Belu Bheel, died and the other, Dilip Kumar, was shifted to a hospital in a critical condition.

Thirty-year-old Naseer Saandh was reportedly killed by lightning in Khaijrarhi Saandh village in the Nagarparkar taluka of Tharparkar district. Another young man, Beram Meghwadh, became a victim of lightning strike in Manjhi Rind village of Tharparkar.

Three women, whose identities were not disclosed to the local media, were also reportedly killed during lightning strikes in villages Harpar Junejo, Garryo and Shahmeer Vikya in Tharparkar.

Environment Canada has ended a severe thunderstorm warning for the Ottawa area.

The news release had also stated that hail of two to three centimetres in diameter was possible in Kanata, Ottawa North and Orléans.

The warning had been issued at 5 p.m., even though an brief, intense summer storm had already pelted parts of Barrhaven with hail on Wednesday afternoon.

The icy burst lasted about three minutes, but covered parts of the suburb in icy, pea-sized pellets.

Teenager is 48th victim of lightning this year in Cambodia

A 14-year-old boy from Battambang was struck and killed by lightning in Sangke district on Tuesday afternoon as he was walking to tend to his parents' rice field with his three siblings, local authorities said yesterday.

Ran Saroeut, O'Dambang II commune police chief, identified the victim as Chhoem Phearun, from Tuol Lvieng village. "At the site, we found the boy's body with burn marks, and his hair was burned as well. The body was [laying] on its chest in the rice field," he said.

The death is the 48th this year, as of yesterday, said Keo Vy, spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management.

Of those victims, 14 were women. Forty-nine people have suffered nonfatal injuries from lightning strikes, while 50 head of cattle have been killed.

A downburst was captured in the vicinity of Caorle and Lignano Sabbiadoro in north-eastern Italy yesterday according to Meteo Web.

Downbursts are created by an area of significantly rain-cooled air that, after reaching ground level, spreads out in all directions producing strong winds. Dry downbursts are associated with thunderstorms with very little rain, while wet downbursts are created by thunderstorms with high amounts of rainfall.

Lightning strikes claim 5 lives in Rajasthan, India

LIGHTNING
Two women were on Tuesday noon killed on the spot after lightning struck them while they were working in agriculture field at two separate places under Ghatoli police station in Jhalawar district. The bodies were handed over to the family members after post-mortem. On Monday too lightning claimed three lives including two women in Jhalawar and Baran districts of the region.

Twenty-six-year old Bhulibai Lodha, a resident of Prathvipura village was killed on the spot after lightning struck her on Tuesday noon while she was working in the field, said SHO Ghatoli police station, Sardar Khan. The woman was rushed to nearby government hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead, the SHO said.

In a similar incident, a 25-year-old woman identified as Prembai, a resident of Devkadar village under the same Ghatoli police station area was killed on the spot after lightning struck her while she was working in the field, said the SHO.

The bodies were handed over to the family members after post-mortem in the evening, he said.

Lightning strikes kill 3 in Pakistan

Three people died in heavy rain and thunderstorm in two separate incidents here on Tuesday night.

Farzana Bibi, 28, and her eight-year-old son Shoaib died when they were struck by lightning, police claimed. An official said two boys were also injured in the incident and were shifted to a nearby hospital.

In another incident, a youth was hit by lightning when he was returning from fields. He was identified as Muhammad Khan of Basti Khushal Singh.

Another person was injured in the incident, and shifted to hospital for treatment.

The bodies were shifted to Minchinabad THQ Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sense of grief over the loss of lives due to lightning in Bahawalnagar district and announced a financial aid of Rs500,000 each for their heirs.

Lightning strikes claim 14 lives in a day across Madhya Pradesh, India

LIGHTNING
Wreaking havoc in the state lightning claimed 14 lives on Wednesday across several districts of the state. Of these five people have died in each of Dindori and Tikamgarh districts, 2 people were killed in Katni and one each were killed in Seoni and Satna districts.

In the first incident five including three class 8 students were killed after lighting hit them in Dindori district. The incident took place at Bhartoli village under Shahpura police station of the district.

Police said that Maheshwari Paraste, 26, her daughter Sharda Paraste, 11, another girls, Poonam Barmaiya, 13, Sushma Uladi, 13 and Nanki Marko, 14, were struck by lightning while they were returning after taking bath from nearby Sakul river in the morning.

All the five died on the spot a case has been registered on the information of the local village panchayat secretary, added police. Apart from Dindori district, five people were killed in two separate incidents in Tikamgarh district.

Of the five, three were killed in Midaoli village of the district. Police said that the incident took place when the villagers had gathered to participate in a 'kanya bhoj' organised at the village.

Five killed by lightning bolt in Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh, India

Lightning strike killed a woman and four girls at Bharothi village in Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh today.

The victims were identified as Maheshwari Paraste (26), her daughter Sharda (9), Punam Barmai (13), Sushma Uladi (13) and Nan Bai Marko (14).

Inspector Anil Patel of local police station said the incident took place when they were returning after bathing in the village river.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department's Bhopal Centre has forecast possibility of heavy rainfall in Balaghat, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Narsinghpur and Raisen districts during the next 48 hours.
