At least seven people have been killed and two are missing in flash flooding in North Carolina caused by Tropical Storm Eta.

Parts of the Tar Heel state experienced torrential downpours and as much as 10 inches of rain inundated roadways on Thursday.

The heavy rain in North Caroline came as Eta spiraled away from Florida, but left behind tropical moisture that mixed with a cold front to produce flash flooding.

At least seven people have died due to dangerous flash floods in Alexander and Iredell counties, while two others are missing.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office revealed on Thursday afternoon that the body of an 11-year-old-child was found in Rolesville.

Heavy rains brought by Storm Etau over the past three days have caused landslides and severe flooding in central provinces, disrupting traffic and badly affecting people's lives.

In Quang Ngai, landslides have unleashed massive amounts of mud and rock at Ra Pan village in Son Tay District since Wednesday.

Do Thanh Vuot, a local official, said people heard loud explosions from cracks in mountainsides at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Etau, which made landfall Tuesday morning and weakened into a tropical depression, has brought prolonged rains to Quang Ngai and other provinces.

Recap: The changing jet stream and global cooling

the changing jet stream

Studying the JET STREAM has long been an indicator of the weather to come, and to study the jet stream attention must turn to the SUN.

When solar activity is HIGH, the jet stream is tight and stable and follows somewhat of a straight path. But when solar activity is LOW, that meandering band of air flowing 6 miles above our heads becomes weak and wavy, it effectively buckles which diverts frigid Polar air to atypically low latitudes and replaces it with warmer tropical air.

The jet stream reverts from a Zonal Flow to a Meridional Flow and, depending on which side of the jet stream you're on, you're either in for a spell of unseasonably cold or hot weather and/or a period of unusually dry or wet conditions.

Storm Eta wipes out half of Honduras' banana production

bananas
Tropical storm Eta has hit a country that was already hurting from the negative economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the productive sector. During the critical months of the health crisis, the agricultural sector was one of the few activities that had managed to continue to grow; however, Eta has caused damage to a considerable amount of crops for local consumption and has caused heavy losses in an important export product, bananas.

The banana sector estimates that 8,000 hectares of crops have been lost due to the floods, i.e. more than half of the 15,000 hectares existing in Honduras.

"I think this is the biggest damage in history for bananas," said producer Hector Castro. The leader estimates that at least 16,000 direct jobs are in danger and that the export volume will decrease.

As of last August, agricultural product exports had increased by 10.7% over the same period of 2019, totaling $ 631.0 million, thanks to the $63.6 million year-on-year increase in banana exports, mainly to the United States. The volume of fruit shipments fell by 4.6%, but the average international price increased by 26.3%, according to data reported by the Central Bank.

Heavy rain brings torrential floods in Al-Bayda, Libya

floods
Heavy rain in Al-Bayda in eastern Libya caused floods Friday and Saturday in the city, leading to considerable damages to people's houses and cars as well as to public infrastructure, including a hospital in the city center.

Sources from the city said rain water flooded into houses and public facilities as the sewers were all blocked and couldn't absorb the rain water, in a clear indication of the city's deteriorated infrastructure and public services of the east-based government.
