21 goats struck dead by lightning in Tamil Nadu, India

Twenty one goats were struck dead by lightning in a pen at Gopalapuram near T. Kallupatti on Wednesday evening.

Police said that C. Marichamy and K. Selvam had put up the pen for the goats on the farm of one Karuppasamy. When it started raining on Wednesday evening, lightning struck and all the 21 goats were electrocuted and died on the spot.

Dozens of women were killed and injured when lightning struck a women's wedding in Dhamar governorate, south of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, transforming the wedding party in a funeral.

The Disaster Management Division (DMD) in India reported on 11 August that flooding has affected over 250,000 people in the eastern state of Bihar over the last few days. Seven rivers in the state, including the Ganges, are above the danger mark in 15 locations.

DMD reported 252,000 people affected across 125 villages in 5 districts, as of 10 August. The situation has worsened after further heavy rainfall over recent days, with more expected.

As of 11 August, rivers were above the danger mark in the districts of Vaishali, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Jehanabad, Khagaria and Gopalganj.

Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, carried out an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas on 11 August 2021 and instructed officials to further step up relief and rescue operation in 12 affected districts.

Lightning strikes kill 4 in Sherpur, Bangladesh

A total of four people including two teenagers died from separate lightning strikes in Sherpur on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Mostofa Mia of Krishnapur Doripara village in Sherpur sadar, Azizul Haque of Lava village in Nokla upazila, Md Arman Hossain of Goshaipur village in Sreebardi upazila, and Russel Mia of Jhenaigati upazila.

Mostofa was struck by a thunderbolt on Wednesday afternoon when he was working in a paddy field during rain. Two others were injured in the strike.

Heavy rain causes flash flood in Surat Thani, Thailand

FLOOD
Raging currents of flood swept away the roof of a shop at Surat Thani province. Due to heavy rain, water from the Nuea Khlong waterfall flowed down the mountain yesterday, flooding some houses in Wiang Sa District.

Southern parts of Thailand get by far the most rain, with around 2,400 millimeters every year, compared with the central and northern regions of Thailand. The national weather service for Surat Thani reported yesterday to be the wettest day in the coming week with around 7.90mm or 0.3 inches of rainfall.

Fore! Family of 4 golfers struck by lightning in Hayward, Wisconsin

Authorities said four people, all related, were struck by lightning at the Big Fish Golf Club course in Hayward.

Multiple units with Sawyer County responded to the incident around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

They said four male golfers who were visiting the area suffered injuries from a nearby lightning strike on the golf course.

The golfers were alert at the time authorities arrived and all four were brought to a local hospital.

"Fifteen years and I've never seen anything like it," Rowhouses at Soma resident John Thomas said.

The streets in the Old Market area turned into rivers. The worst damage was between 14th and 11th streets on both Jones and Leavenworth streets.

"I had a birds-eye view from the ninth floor watching all of this," Old Market Lofts resident Richard Berkland said. "I've never seen rain that fast coming down to an area that can't absorb the water."

"We were just hosting an event here and the light started to flicker," Vintage Ballroom operator Rebekah Pasqualetto said. "We knew it was raining but we didn't know how bad it was, so once the light started to flicker, we came outside and saw the river at the intersection."

80,000 people evacuated from China's Sichuan province as extreme rains trigger floods

More than 80,000 people have been evacuated from their homes by the authorities as Sichuan is hit by extreme rains, triggering floods, with nearly half a million people impacted across six cities.

On Monday, the authorities in Sichuan, China, told state-run news agency Xinhua that water levels across the province were dangerously high, prompting the evacuation of 80,794 people.

The authorities said that more than 440,000 people had been impacted by the rains , with extreme rainfall being seen across the state. The highest recorded rainfall was in Qingshen in Quxian County, where 575mm (23in) of rainfall was recorded in just two days.

Torrential rain across Scotland has closed railway lines, flooded streets and led to one car being abandoned after it was submerged in water.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place for most of Scotland on Saturday and Sunday, with the Met Office warning it may cause flooding and power cuts.

The torrential downpours are set to continue across Scotland with a warning in place up until midnight on Sunday.
