February saw a host of environmental disasters, including floods in Turkey and Japan, a powerful volcanic eruption in Italy's Mt. Etna, and heavy monsoon rains in Indonesia.

Here is a timeline compiled by Anadolu Agency.

Feb. 1:

- The US northeast is in the midst of a massive snow storm with some areas expected to receive up to 2 feet of snow.

Feb. 2:

- Heavy rainfall in western Turkey floods some parts of Izmir province, leaving two dead.

There are 18 states are on alert for flooding on Wednesday.

Rivers continue to flow out of their banks from Texas to West Virginia where 18 states are on alert for flooding on Wednesday.

The Kentucky River and Ohio River are most at risk for major to moderate flooding to continue for the next several days as entire towns continue to be submerged under water in Kentucky where a state of emergency has been declared.


The rain, however, should stay away from the flooded region for the next several days.

Gusty winds on Tuesday blow across Turner Street in Presque Isle. The extreme windy conditions caused several crashes throughout the region.
Thousands of power outages were reported in northern and eastern Maine as blowing winds and whiteouts impacted the area on March 2, the National Weather Service said.

Local officials called on residents of the area to stay at home. The Caribou Police Department warned, "Road conditions are very bad with the wind, whiteout conditions and low temperatures."

A local meteorologist measured 28 inches of snow accumulation on Tuesday morning, he said on Twitter.

The beginning of March brought some harsh winter conditions to Atlantic Canada, particularly in Newfoundland, which was hit hard Tuesday.

The intense winter storm that powered through the Maritimes Monday -- the first day of meteorological spring -- also delivered a swift dose of heavy snow, howling winds and blizzard conditions to Newfoundland Tuesday.

Because of the storm, most government offices and municipal services were either delayed with opening or closed for the day early Tuesday. Conditions quickly began to deteriorate Monday overnight and into the pre-dawn hours Tuesday morning.

Greenbank, south of Brisbane, recorded 73mm in the 30 minutes to 5pm while Michelton recorded 61mm in half an hour.

'These thunderstorms are moving towards the north to northeast,' the Bureau of Meteorology said about the severe storm hitting Brisbane.

'They are forecast to affect Narangba, Burpengary and Beachmere by 6.20pm and Caboolture, Wamuran and Beerburrum by 6:50pm.'

Heavy rainfall hit the municipality of Lagoa Vermelha in the state of Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, from late 01 March 2021. Strong winds and lightning were also reported.

Flooding damaged homes and roads. After carrying out initial assessments, the municipal government said at least 32 houses were severely damaged, some even destroyed, leaving families homeless. The municipality is considering declaring a state of emergency as a result of the damage.

Much of the damage was in the neighbourhood of Rodrigues. Centro, Gaúcha, Medianeira, Gentil and São Sebastião neighbourhoods were also badly affected.

Civil Defence reported rainfall totals of 112.2 mm in just two hours. Local observers suggested the rainfall was over 220mm. The city would see around 118 mm of rain during a typical February.

With a strong La Nina in effect and Negative Arctic Oscillation, this Spring is stacking up to mirror 2011 which had the most tornadoes ever registered in a season. It also looks like the severe hailstorms and tornadoes will shift further east in the USA, all the while solar activity continues to stagnate in this intensifying Grand Solar Minimum.

One killed, dozens injured in traffic accidents amid heavy snowfall in South Korea - nearly 3 feet of March snow

One person was killed and dozens were injured in traffic accidents caused by heavy snowfall in the country's northeast, officials said Tuesday.

Gangwon Province received up to 90 centimeters of snow in the mountains and 5-20 cm inland between Monday and Tuesday afternoon, according to local weather authorities.

The snow caused severe traffic congestion and road closures across the province, leading to 79 traffic accidents and multiple casualties, according to firefighting officials.

A man in his 50s was killed after he was hit by a car near a tunnel on a highway linking Seoul to Yangyang, 215 kilometers east of the capital.

Warnings for severe weather were issued and the Civil Defence Directorate asked residents to stay in their homes "in the face of the strong storm in the Central Valley area and inland towns."

Local media reported 90 mm of rain in 1 hour in the city of Catamarca. Buildings, road and infrastructure were damaged and power and drinking water supply cut. Around 20 families were evacuated and over 240 buildings damaged including a the San Juan Bautista Hospital.

Roads and infrastructure were damaged and fast flowing flood waters and debris swept through streets dragging along vehicles.

Local government reported 100 mm of rain in 9 hours to the afternoon of 01 March which caused rivers and drainage channels to overflow.
