Lightning from thunderstorms over the last several days has ignited roughly 29 fires over the western side of the Klamath National Forest. More lightning is forecasted for today, and additional new fires are anticipated due to the volume of lightning that has been received.

All but four of the fires are on the Salmon-Scott River Ranger District and are being managed as a single incident called the River Complex. The largest of these fires is the Cronan Fire, which is located 3.5 miles northeast of Sawyers Bar. It has been reported as 20 acres in size. Yesterday, helicopters and air tankers were used to limit the fire's spread while ground crews work on gaining access. Five of the fires have been contained and two have been called out.

Floods cause heavy losses in Sudan amid Nile dam crisis

Sudan's Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources said July 26 that the Blue Nile water flow rose from 100 million cubic meters to 400 million cubic meters.

The ministry noted in a statement that as the fall season approaches and rainfall averages on the Ethiopian plateau increases, the Blue Nile water levels have already increased significantly in the Roseires, Singa, Sennar, Wad Madani and Khartoum water treatment plants.

The Sudanese concerns of floods coincide with Ethiopia announcing that it has completed the filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) reservoir, without disclosing the volume of water stored.

Speaking to Al-Monitor, former Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Mohammed Nasr Allam said that the Sudanese floods caused heavy losses this year despite the limited water quantities, following the unilateral filling of the GERD and amid lack of information provided on the dam. He said Ethiopia did not coordinate over the GERD filling and operation with any of the concerned parties, and thus Sudan could not take the necessary measures to deal with possible floods or high water levels of the Blue Nile.

On July 24, Sudanese media reported that the floods in al-Fao, in Gedaref state, displaced more than 10,000 families, submerged nearly 20,000 houses, damaged hundreds of tons of wheat stocks and caused a total of 1 trillion Sudanese pounds (about $2.2 billion) in losses in several sectors, according to preliminary estimates in al-Fao.

Alertpage Inc. reports a GMC dealership has experienced a "major collapse."

Comment: Local news station FOX29 reports:
Officials in Bensalem say at least six people were hurt when a tornado ripped through Bucks County on Thursday night leaving a wake of destruction that includes a decimated car dealership and several destroyed homes.

Harran said the tornado made landfall at 7:13 p.m. in the northeastern part of the county and tore across Bensalem where flying debris caused damage to local businesses.

The tornado streaked across the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Street Road and flipped cars along the way, according to Harran. The most significant damage happened at Faulkner Buick-GMC dealership where the tornado reduced many of the buildings to rubble.

The tornado completely destroyed homes in Weiss Trailer Park and Penn Valley Trailer Park near Old Lincoln Highway. FOX 29's Steve Keeley spoke to one resident who said he huddled in a bathroom with his 5-year-old son, father and grandfather as the storm shredded their home.

Harran said the tornado lost some intensity as it continued past Neshaminy Mall and a residential neighborhood in Belmont Hills. Reports were limited to tossed trampolines and torn siding, according to emergency responders.

"I've been doing this for 34 years and it's the first time I've ever seen that kind of devastation up close and personal," Harran said.
