More heavy rain brought by Hurricane Eta has caused flooding and landslides, this time in southern parts of Mexico .

In a 24 hour period to 06 November, 315mm of rain fell in Oxolotán in Tabasco State and 279.5mm in Escalón in Chiapas State, according to Mexico's Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SNM).

Previously Eta had caused devastation across Central America , with dozens of people feared dead in Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

A winter storm dropped significant snowfall in the Fairbanks area overnight and into Friday morning.

Snow totals for the area include 10 inches at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, 12 inches for upper McGrath Road, 8.3 inches for Trainor Gate Road and the Fort Wainwright area, 11 inches in North Pole, 10 inches in Goldstream, 12 inches at mile 17 of Chena Hot Springs Road and 6.2 inches for Birch Hill. 10.1 inches has fallen in Fox as of 9 a.m.

Rick Thoman, a climate specialist with the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy tweeted that the highest 24-hour snowfall total for Fairbanks in November over the past century is 14.6 inches in November 1970.

"That could well be broken today," Thoman added.

Fairbanks sets snowfall record, braces for second winter storm

Even before Interior Alaskans have had a chance to dig out from this week's record snowfall, another storm is on the way.

A total of 14.7 inches of snow fell between 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday, barely eclipsing the previous 24-hour record of 14.6 inches, set in 1970, according to the National Weather Service.

And more heavy snow is on the way.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the central Interior, including Fairbanks and North Pole, as well as the Brooks Range region to the north. This warning is in effect beginning at 3 a.m. Sunday and continuing through Monday morning. It is expected to drop 5 to 9 inches, with localized amounts up to 10 inches.

Winds of up to 35 mph are expected in exposed areas.

The storm also will affect the Susitna Valley, with up to 20 inches of snow along the Alaska Range, beginning this afternoon.

Travel will continue to be difficult and more power outages are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

The City of Whitehorse continues digging out from the first major snowstorm of the season that saw about 45 centimetres fall on Nov. 2 and it's a process that will likely take weeks, says operations manager Richard Graham.

"It's been a long month," he said with a laugh in an interview Nov. 5, fully acknowledging there had only been five days in the month so far.

While Graham couldn't put a precise figure — aside from describing it as "lots" — on how much snow had been plowed and moved to city snow dumps, he said the full process will take time and the city is asking for the public's patience and to keep their distance from the equipment.

Graham said the city's 45-person crew dedicated to road maintenance has staff working five 12-hour shifts compared to the usual four 10-hour shifts in a week. It means that city crews are out 24/7 dealing with the snow. In addition, some other city staff have also been assigned to help with the snow removal and the city has also hired contractors to move the snow loaded onto trucks. Other city staff from various departments were out shovelling in front of the workplace — clearing snow from in front of city hall, the municipal services building, and more, Graham said.

Silt, potholes, landslides bring new challenges after floods caused by Eta in Jamaica

With the Chalky River overflowing its banks on Wednesday, residents on Weise Road in Bull Bay, St Andrew, are hoping for relief soon from the devastation and dislocation caused by adverse weather over the past few weeks.

Apart from battling the floodwaters in their yards, as they recede, they are faced with a new problem: silt. Mounds and mounds of it.

On Thursday, tractor operators were busy trying to clear the Chalky River of some of the silt washed down from the hills of east rural St Andrew, which has been experiencing landslides in recent weeks because of rainfall.

Some of the silt had been lodged in residents' yards on Weise Road.

At least 2 people have died in severe weather including flash floods in Manicaland Province, eastern Zimbabwe.

Local media report that flooding struck from 04 November after 2 days of storms and rain. One person was swept away by flash floods in Chipinge, close to the border with Mozambique, on 05 November, where crops, bridges, homes and a school were severely damaged.

Meanwhile another person died in Odzi, about 130km north of Chipinge, after being struck by lightning. Buildings were damaged by strong winds in parts of Chipinge and Buhera. Hailstorms affected parts of Nyanga.

The flash flooding is in stark contrast to ongoing drought conditions affecting wide areas of the country.

At least eight people have died in Honduras due to tropical storm Eta, currently lashing the central region of the Central American country with heavy rains and wind gusts of 45 km per hour, local authorities said.

On Thursday, the Second Lieutenant of the Fire Department, Carlos Oliva, said four people died in a mudslide, including a mother and her two children, in the Fortaleza district of Tela, a town in Atlantida, and a minor drowned in the village of Paujiles, reports Xinhua news agency.

On Wednesday, a girl drowned in Nueva Frontera in Santa Barbara, and a 37-year-old man drowned in San Manuel, Lempira department.

Torrential rain caused flash flooding in parts of southern Spain on 05 November 2020.

Emergency services in the southern Andalusia region responded to 130 incidents due to heavy rainfall and strong winds on 05 November. Most of the coordinated incidents (90) were in the province of , followed by Huelva (19) and Seville (12).

Firefighters were called on to rescue 3 people from a flooded house in Ronda in Malaga province after the Guadalevín River broke its banks. Videos shared on Social Media showed firefighters battling against fast-flowing water in streets of Ronda.

The government of Malaga Province said 5 major roads were closed across the province as a result of flooding and landslides.

Residents in Western Belize are experiencing excessive rains flooding.

Photos and videos shared this morning with our newsroom showed that water levels at the Macal River in San Ignacio continue to rise. Businesses near the San Ignacio Market have secured their establishments and evacuated the area.

Meanwhile, in Bullet Tree Falls Village, the river level is several inches away from the platform of the Salvador Fernandez Bridge.

At least 50 people have been killed by landslides in Guatemala after Storm Eta's torrential rain and high winds battered the Central American country.

Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei said around half the deaths were in a single town where a hillside collapse buried some 20 houses under thick mud.

Eta made landfall in neighbouring Nicaragua as a hurricane on Tuesday.

It was later downgraded to a tropical storm.
