A heavy downpour caused a landslide on Sunday in Guguak Malalo, a collection of villages in Tanah Datar regency, West Sumatra, claiming two lives and destroying homes.

The fatal victims have been identified as a 75-year-old woman, Bainar, and her 45-year-old son. Ijun, said emergency head Dodi Susilo of the Tanah Datar Disaster Mitigation Agency.

The mother and son were found buried in mud near the ruins of their house at around 1:30 p.m., nine hours after the landslide hit the area at 4:30 a.m.

Heavy rain has caused flash floods and landslides in two districts of Tana Toraja regency in South Sulawesi, leaving at least four people dead.

Tana Toraja Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Alfian Andi Lolo reported that three of the deceased were members of the same family in Randanbatu village, South Makale district, identified as Bottong, 80, Rita, 40, and Yen, 12. Meanwhile, one fatality is Rantetayo district has yet to be identified.

Delhi experiences wettest March ever, records 589% more rainfall than normal

Last month, Delhi received the highest amount of rainfall it ever has in the month of March, effectively making March 2020 the wettest one on record for the region.

According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional met centre in New Delhi, Delhi's base monitoring station at Safdarjung recorded 109.6 mm rainfall between March 1 and 31, 2020 — a whopping 589% more than its long-term average for the month, which is a mere 15.9 mm. In the process, March 2020 surpassed the previous record-holder, i.e. March 2015, during which Delhi had received rainfall worth 97.4 mm.

Further, Delhiites also witnessed the fourth wettest March day on record last month, as the Safdarjung station recorded a 24-hour downpour worth 37 mm on March 15, 2020. In comparison, the highest single-day rainfall, at 62.2 mm, was observed way back in 1915.

Torrential rain caused flash flooding in coastal areas of Province of Castellón in the Valencia Region of Spain on 01 April 2020.

Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) said some areas recorded their highest daily rainfall totals in more than 30 years. La Pobla Tornesa recorded 197.6mm of rain in 24 hours to 01 April. On the same day, 48 mm of rain fell in 4 hours in Vilafamés.

The worst affected areas were the towns of Almassora, Borriana, Oropesa and Vilafamés. The provincial government also reported some flooding in Benicàssim, Villarreal, Vinaròs, Traiguera, Benicarló and Peñíscola.

Another storm in Murcia and Alicante, Spain results in muddy conditions delaying crop harvest

This is already the third heavy storm recorded in Murcia and Alicante since the start of the autumn and winter season, which accounts for the largest volumes of vegetable production in Europe. These climatic adversities come at a bad time for the field, which for about two weeks has been adapting to the limitations and difficulties derived from the spread of the coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease.

In some areas of Murcia, more than 100 liters per square meter of rain have been recorded in less than 24 hours, while in the province of Alicante, the regions of Marina Alta and Vega Baja recorded more than 50 liters per square meter. There has also been a lot of rain in the province of Valencia and in Almería, but the rivers have not overflowed.

At least 42 people die in floods, landslides caused by heavy rains in southeast of Brazil

The third month of 2020 saw numerous environmental disasters that impaired climate change and vice versa, including a deadly tornado in the U.S., landslide in Brazil and heavy rains in Pakistan.

Here is a look at the global environmental disasters during the previous month.

March 3:

- At least 19 people die in the U.S. state of Tennessee as a result of a heavy tornado that also causes major damage to buildings, roads, bridges, utilities, and businesses.

- Some 900 people are displaced after flash flood destroys houses in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.

March 4:

- Hundreds of people are either displaced or left isolated after floods in northern parts of Namibia, according to local media reports.

Flash floods leave 11 dead, homes destroyed in Afghanistan

Disaster management authorities in Afghanistan report that flash flooding across the country has left at least 11 people dead and 15 injured.

Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said on 31 March that 11 people had died in flash flooding across the country. Fifteen people were injured, around 288 houses destroyed, 400 damaged, and about 500 hectares of land damaged.

ANDMA reported they had distributed relief supplies to flood-hit areas of Takhar province (79 families) on 28 March and Shindand district in Herat Province (219 families) on 30 March. Local media reported damage to power supply infrastructure in Salang district, Parwan province.
