Deadly flooding strikes Yemen's Aden killing at least 10

At least 10 civilians died and dozens were injured when heavy flooding struck the port city of Aden in southern Yemen on Tuesday.

Dr Jamal Khadabakhish director of public health in Aden, told The National that the huge floods resulted in three deaths and 27 injuries among residents of Al Mualla district.

And four people from one family died as their house in Sirah district, in southern Aden, collapsed on them.

"There are many other casualties in the northern districts of Dar Saad and Al Sheikh Othman," Dr Khadabakhish said.

Angola news agency ANGOP reports that 11 people have died and 13 are missing after heavy rain and strong winds struck parts of Luanda Province early on 18 April, 2020.

As if there wasn't enough with the coronavirus, what might be considered another of the 'plagues of Egypt' caused immediate problems when it rained in the town of Villamuriel de Cerrato (Castilla y Leon) yesterday (Sunday April 19).

There has been an ongoing problem with a narrowing of the banks of a stream which runs into the Rio Carrion and whenever very heavy rain falls, it immediately overflows and floods the town.

Reports suggest that although the rainfall lasted just a few minutes, it was so heavy that the inevitable occurred meaning that firefighters from the city of Palencia were called out and with the assistance of local residents managed, with some difficulty, to combat the deluge.

Besides lives lost, heavy rains damaged public infrastructure mainly roads in Gicumbi District.

Local media are reporting that at least 9 people have died as a result of landslides and flash flooding in Rwanda. Meanwhile in Burundi, around 27,000 people have been affected by flooding in Bujumbura Province.

According to the New Times in Rwanda, 6 people died after heavy rain triggered landslides in Gicumbi district in Northern Province. The worst affected areas are Nyankenke and Kageyo Sectors. Property, infrastructure and livestock have all been damaged or destroyed. Authorities urged residents in high-risk zones to relocate to safer areas.

Flash floods swamp New Caledonia after nearly 8 inches of rain in 6 hours

Bridges and roads were submerged after torrential rain caused flooding in parts of New Caledonia, 19 to 20 April, 2020. Some areas recorded almost 200mm of rain in just 6 hours.

Authorities declared "a dangerous meteorological event", referred to as an ORSEC EMD, for several communes including Hienghène, Poindimie, Houailou, Canala and Thio.

The heavy rain also triggered several landslides. Flooded or blocked roads left some communities isolated. Power supply was interrupted in some areas. Almost 200 mm of rain fell in just 6 hours in Hienghène.

The bodies of nine people were found after being engulfed by a landslide that hit an illegal gold mine in South Solok District, West Sumatra, on Saturday, the police stated on Sunday.

"By this morning, all victims were found dead. Their bodies were retrieved and laid in state at their homes," Chief of the South Solok District Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Imam Yulisdianto stated.

The landslide struck at around 5:50 p.m. local time on Saturday while they were manually digging for gold at the mine, he noted.

At least 36 killed by floods in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The UN reports that at least 36 people have lost their lives in flooding in South Kivu Province in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).

According to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), torrential rain fell in the city of Uvira and surrounding areas in South Kivu, from 16 to 17 April 2020.

Officials said the heavy rain caused the Mulongwe river to break its banks in Uvira city. The ensuing floods caused significant material damage. Theo Kassi, governor of the province reported that as of 17 April, at least 3,500 homes had been destroyed. MONUSCO said 15,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and 7 bridges damaged or have completely collapsed. Almost 78,000 people are reported to have been left without shelter. Roads have been blocked and drinking water supply cut.

Three people are feared dead and more than a dozen others are missing after flash floods swept through Chesogon along the West Pokot-Elgeyo Marakwet border.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Ahmed Omar says among those missing include police officers whose camp was swept away by the raging waters.

Landslide kills 8 following heavy rainfall in Ghor, Afghanistan

At least seven women and a child were killed after a landslide hit a village in remote western Afghan province of Ghor on Saturday, a local official said, Trend reports citing Xinhua.

"The incident occurred in Khwaja Sima village of Tolak district Saturday. Three houses were destroyed and an unknown number of people went missing as villagers were still searching for them late in the day," provincial Governor Ghulam Nasir Khaze told Xinhua.

The bodies of the victims were recovered from debris.

More heavy rain has caused buildings to collapse, landslides and flash floods in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where at least 5 people have died as a result. Heavy rain has also affected parts of central and northern Afghanistan, with flooding reported in Kapisa, Badakhshan, Badghis, Nangarhar and Ghor Provinces.

More heavy rain in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has had devastating consequences, with at least 5 fatalities reported between 14 and 15 April, 2020.

Ongoing heavy rain has affected the province since early March, with dozens of fatalities reported, mostly as a result of collapsing buildings.

According to the province's disaster management authority (PDMA-KP) 3 people died and 2 were injured in rain-related incidents in Lower Dir district and 2 people died in Mohmand district. All died as a result of roofs or buildings collapsing. Houses were also damaged in Upper Dir, Bajaur and Swat districts.
