Bald Eagle attacks woman along Lake Superior

Bald Eagle Attacks Woman

Young Bald Eagle attacks woman
A scary attack between a young bald eagle and a woman took place along Lake Superior Thursday - and it was all caught on video, as FOX 21's Dan Hanger reports.

The aggressive bald eagle was seen attacking the woman Thursday morning just 100 yards away from the Cascade Lodge and Restaurant along Highway 61 in Lutsen.

Head Kitchen Manager Bernie Banks ran to help the woman — a guest at the lodge — using his chef's jacket to safely stop the raptor from charging on.

"I just took off my jacket and threw it over him and tried my best to get him off of her while not hurting the bird or hurting her anymore without me getting hurt, alright," Banks said.

Bees use shark 'supersense' to help find food

Fine hairs on bees' bodies can sense tiny changes in electrostatic fields, enabling them to sense whether another bee has visited a flower before them.
Flying insects such as bees and moths have secret senses that allow them to 'feel' nearby flowers and navigate over long distances, according to new research.

Armed with sensitive antennae and wide-angled compound eyes, bees have a sophisticated set of senses to help them search out pollen and nectar as they buzz from flower to flower.

But new research is revealing that bumblebees may employ another hidden sense that lets them detect when a flower was last visited by another insect.

Dead fish in Biscayne Bay
Thousands of dead fish have appeared in Miami's Biscayne Bay, alarming residents in the area.

The dead fish could be seen in the water from as far south as the Julia Tuttle Causeway to as far north as the 79th Street Bridge on Tuesday.

"It was a river of dead fish, and then, last night, there were islands of dead fish," said resident Kathryn Mikesell, who usually swims in the bay.

Witnesses called authorities to report they saw thousands of dead fish, including snapper, needlefish, pufferfish, sea trout and crabs. Nearby residents said the smell is overwhelming.

This is the third such incident in the region in less than a month, he said.

The leopard dragged the girl away from outside her house in Dhanpur taluka on Monday evening, said Vasiya Dungri forest range officer Mahesh Parmar.

The half-eaten body of the girl was found deep inside the forest this morning, he said.

Dead seagulls on the shore of Lake Van
Flocks of dead seagulls have been found scattered around Lake Van in eastern Turkey, and even though most deaths are attributed to hunger and food scarcity, the extent of the deaths has been worrying.

The incident recently came to light after several concerned residents contacted officials about seeing the dead and dying birds around the body of water. Residents in the area have been demanding that authorities look deeper into the collective deaths, which happen on an annual basis.

Locals said the current situation with the coronavirus has only added to their worries, and the carcasses of the gulls were constituting a great public health hazard, especially to children who play around the lake.

Floods destroy largest breeding ground for birds in Uganda as Lake Victoria hits record levels

Abandoned Grey-headed gulls eggs

Abandoned Grey-headed gulls eggs
The island is home to 100 bird species. It is believed that about 200,000 birds live and breed here.

It is dawn at Musambwa Island in Kyotera district and chirping birds happily jump on rocks and trees.

A colony of grey-headed gulls takes to the sky, while others remain to guard their nests, eggs and young ones.

It is hard to tell whether they are mourning the death of several members of their flock, who drowned in the floods triggered by the recent rising water levels. Up to now, several breeding territories are waterlogged and deserted.

Going around the rocks, you jump over dead gulls, little egrets and other birds.

Over 80 eggs of different bird species and 110 dead birds are scattered within one acre.

Adapt 2030 Ice Age Report: Satellites go down as food prices run away with no recovery in sight

Food prices increase

Exceptional food price increases have the world wondering if people will be priced out of simple items like beef and eggs. Satellites go down in Australia with almost unnoticeable space weather, which shows a huge problem, small coronal holes and not even CME's are causing problems with Earth's communication satellites. Massive dust storm right out of a movie in Rajasthan, India and metals are making a run from endless money printing.

In the swimming images, the uniform dark brown colour and greyish bill with dark tip are visible, as is the bird's smaller size than Cory's Shearwater.
I work as a marine biologist and nature guide for a whale-watching company, Espaço Talassa, which is based at Lajes do Pico, Azores. On one of our whale-watching tours, on 7 August 2020, late in the afternoon, one of our crew members noticed an anomalous-coloured shearwater sitting in the water, in a raft of Cory's Shearwaters. They were close to a group of Atlantic Spotted Dolphins that we were watching, but the birds were not interacting directly with the dolphins.

The dark-coloured shearwaters or petrels that we regularly see in this area are Bulwer's Petrel and Sooty Shearwater. However, the bird was larger than a Bulwer's and showed a completely different bill and leg/foot colour to Sooty.

We approached the birds to try and identify what it was. It would let us approach, while the surrounding Cory's Shearwaters flew away, and we noted how when it flew it landed shortly after taking off, not far away (this being unusual behaviour for Cory's). At first we thought it could be a melanistic Cory's Shearwater, but it was noticeably smaller in size.

7-month-old boy dies after being attacked by family pit bull in Akron, Ohio

PIT BULL ATTACK
A 7-month-old boy died Friday after the family pit bull attacked him at an Akron home, police said.

The dog attacked both the boy and his 77-year-old grandmother about 3:45 p.m. at the home on South Hawkins Avenue near Bellevue Avenue, police said.

An ambulance took the boy to a Akron Children's Hospital, where he died. His grandmother suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized, police said.

Comment: Also recently a 15-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being attacked by 2 pit bulls in Barrow County, Georgia:
A 15-year-old Georgia girl was fighting for her life Monday after being mauled by two pit bulls while taking a walk in her neighborhood.

Joslyn Stinchcomb had her scalp torn off, her left ear bit off and her trachea damaged in the vicious attack Friday in Barrow County, local paper Classic City News reported.

The soon-to-be high school sophomore was strolling in her Winder neighborhood when the dogs began chasing her.

A Barrow County Sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene to find the teenager lying face down against a curb, with one dog grabbing her neck and the other gnawing at her head, according to a police report.

The deputy shot and injured one of the pit bulls as it approached him, scaring the other one off. The dogs were found at their owner's house and later euthanized, the News reported.

The owner, 29-year-old Alexandria Torregrossa, was arrested and charged with reckless conduct after she returned home, according to the report.

Joslyn remained in the intensive care unit at an Atlanta hospital on Monday. She initially had to be put on a ventilator because of the condition her trachea was left in.

Doctors were able to reattach her ear, but it's unclear whether she will ever be able to use it again, her aunt, Charity Stinchcomb Montgomery, told the paper.

They "don't know if she will be able to hear out of that ear," Montgomery said.

The girl, a flutist in her school marching band, also lost much of her hair in the attack, and her aunt said there's a chance it never grows back.

So much nerve damage was done that it "may affect her smile, her blinking and other facial expressions," Montgomery said.

"There is still so much that we don't know about her injuries," she added, "but we know that God knows and that can heal her."

Joslyn is scheduled to undergo another surgery on Tuesday, in an attempt to repair nerves on the left side of her face, as well as her vocal cords and airway, family members said.

The family has requested that anyone willing to donate toward medical expenses for Joslyn do so through a PayPal link.
