An enourmous sea monster was caught by baffled Japanese fishermen off the island of Hokkaido.

A ferocious looking fish with a gigantic head and sharp, protruding teeth has been found swimming in the waters of Pacific Ocean.

After the creature was caught and boarded, the fishermen identified it as quite harmless Bering wolffish.

They also believe that the fish is one of the largest wolffish ever recorded.

Note that this is not a mutant species of fish. More info on wolfish.

Dead Bottlenose dolphin washes on the Gold Coast, Australia; 3rd stranding in September

Image
The dead female bottlenose dolphin that was found washed up on the Gold Coast is just one of many strandings in the area
Marine experts are hoping the results of an autopsy carried out on a dead dolphin found washed on a Gold Coast beach will offer clues into the mammal's mysterious death.

It is not known how long the female bottlenose dolphin had been dead when it washed ashore at Broadbeach on Sunday without any scarring or visible injuries.

'Sea World will conduct a post-mortem on a dolphin which washed up at Broadbeach over the weekend. We have also sent away samples in an attempt to identify a cause of death,' a Sea World spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

Coyote attacks kill 2 dogs, neighbors 'panicking' in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin

Image
Coyotes have killed two dogs in Wauwatosa, and possibly a third in Elm Grove.
Following the second coyote attack on small pets in a matter of days, neighbors are past the point of concern โ€” many are downright panicking, said Brenda Buchanan.

Buchanan, who lives on 119th Street in Wauwatosa near the area where two dogs were attacked by coyotes โ€” one on Sept. 10 and a second Sept. 12 โ€” said neighbors are refusing to walk the streets alone and resort to walking in large groups and carry sticks to fend off the wild animals.

"People are even afraid to let their kids play outside," said Buchanan, a dog owner.

"I'm such a wildlife person, but I want them gone," she said of the coyotes.

But animal protection organizations said hazing โ€” rather than killing the animals โ€” should be the measures of choice when it comes to preventing attacks on more pets.

While a cause of death has not been confirmed, it looked as though the whale may already have been dead when it became tangled in the lines just off Waikawau.
A whale has been found dead, tangled in mussel lines, in the Coromandel.

The adult female humpback was discovered on Sunday, and Department of Conservation (DoC) officials removed the animal yesterday.

While a cause of death has not been confirmed, it looked as though the whale may already have been dead when it became tangled in the lines just off Waikawau, on the west coast of the Coromandel peninsula.

When the DoC team arrived at the mussel farm, it was discovered the whale had been "dead for quite a while", Dale Tawa, conservation services manager for DoC Coromandel, said.

Can animals tell what the weather may hold?

Image
Can animals predict weather changes or pending catastrophic events? Research has been done over the years and the actual answer is as elusive today as in the past when that was the common way of predicting weather. Today there are satellites that read temperatures, cloud formations, wind patterns and a host of other information then beam the results back to computers that calculate all factors and give us pretty accurate forecasts. A few weeks ago we had a helicopter fly over our area with a large upside cone hanging below it by a cable. I found out they were checking the depths of the subterranean fault lines that are in our area to help accurately predict earthquakes. About a week later we had a 4.2 quake which we did not feel, but our dogs did as they were pacing around nervously looking for a corner to get into. Or the recent Indian Ocean tsunami that killed over 230,000 people but almost no animals perished except those caged. But the question still goes mostly unanswered whether animals, birds, insects and types of flora can predict weather.
