Steve Mayes said he found Miller up against a tree following the attack and described taking her to the hospital in his truck. "I just hate to walk up and see her that way. I'm glad that we was there to get her to the hospital but I'm just sorry that we had to see it."
The Cocke County Sheriff's Office reported it was investigating the July 12 case and a similar incident from four months earlier along the same road in Cocke County. Jimtown Road is just outside of Newport.
"A similar incident occurred on the same road on April 1, 2021, that resulted in the death of Tony Ahrens," the Cocke County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post.
Detectives are investigating the death, but "all indications are that the two pit bull dogs killed the woman," a police news release stated.
At about 6 p.m. Sunday, patrol officers responded to a call of a death after a woman arrived home to find her mother being mauled by the family's two dogs inside a home in the 7200 block of Royal Arms Drive, a police spokesman said.
The 3.5-foot, 100-pound opah fish was discovered on Sunset Beach north of Seaside on Wednesday morning, and was quickly reported to the Seaside Aquarium, which placed it the fish in a freezer to preserve it for future educational opportunities, the aquarium said.
Also known as a moonfish, the opah is typically found in warmer, tropical waters, though it's not unheard of to find them along the Oregon coast. In 2009, a Milwaukie man caught a 97-pound opah while fishing for tuna off the mouth of the Columbia River.
Opah are discoid fish, meaning they are shaped like large discs. Their average weight is about 100 pounds, according to the National Oceania and Atmospheric Association, though some larger species can grow to be longer than six feet and weigh up to 600 pounds. The fish have distinct coloration, with bright red-orange fins.
The Seaside Aquarium said one lucky school group will get the opportunity to dissect the large fish this upcoming school year.
Vikas (who only uses his first name) gathered the courage to come down from the tree only after he saw local residents pass by the next morning. "We informed police and forest department after we saw the man, terrified and barely able to speak. A bike was lying nearby and next to it was a body. There were claw marks on the tree that saved the man's life," said Rajendra Prasad, a local resident.
The attack occurred on Sunday night when Kandhai Lal (35) was returning along with his nephew Sonu Kumar (22) and his friend Vikas after meeting his in-laws in Jalalpur village in Shahjahanpur.
According to the forest department, the men were in an inebriated state and were warned by the forest guard about tiger movement in the area along the 10km long link road. "Movement of three tigers had been recorded by our staff in this particular beat of the forest and the victims were cautioned as well but they ignored the warning," deputy director of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Naveen Khandelwal told TOI.

In this June 2015 file photo, a brown bear is seen in the Hokkaido town of Shari.
Experts are warning that brown bears are living in areas closer to people as buffer zones that used to separate their habitats and residential areas have disappeared.
"I feel bears are appearing this year more often than usual, with a spate of reports of sightings at the same locations near urban areas," said a government employee in the town of Takinoue, where the body of a suspected brown bear attack victim whose gender has not been confirmed yet was found on a mountain.
An employee of the district forest office traveling by car found the collapsed victim bleeding heavily from head wounds around 2 p.m. on July 12 in a lump of grass along a forest road in the town, and informed Monbetsu Police Station.
Lyssa Rose Upshaw was walking in Fort Fefiance, a county within the Navajo Nation and Arizona, when dogs are thought to have attacked her in mid-May.
The girl's mother, Marissa Jones, found her daughter's body curled up on a dirt track and covered in dirt. She told the Associated Press that she suspected dogs, although she was waiting for confirmation from officials.
An autopsy requested by the AP confirmed that the teenager had died from a dog attack, and that it was accidental. The autopsy was carried out by the medical examiner's office in Coconino County, Arizona.
The report follows Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez recently vetoing a bill that would hold dog and animal owners accountable for attacks. It is not currently tribal law.
The lake - the second largest in Turkey and one of the largest hypersaline lakes in the world - is among the favorite habitat of migratory animals and has long been a hatching ground for flamingos. Though it is shallow and gets little precipitation throughout the year, its salty nature is conducive to the nesting of migratory birds. However, the drought stemming from climate change has led to a recession of lake's waters, making finding food a challenge for flamingos.
Carcasses of birds now dot the lake's parts in the Cihanbeyli district of Konya. The birds had arrived to the lake in March for their incubation season. Mehmet Emin Öztürk, a nature photographer who is a frequent visitor to the area in the summer, says Lake Tuz had been "a paradise for flamingos, but now (it has) turned into a nightmare."
Saareõue OÜ farm, which breeds and raises Aberdeen Angus cattle, lost seven animals - a bull, three cows and three one-year-old heifers - overnight during a thunderstorm. The owners are convinced they were killed by a lightning strike.
The owners discovered the animals under a tree where they had been sheltering and described the scene as looking like a horror movie.
"You think that such things happen somewhere in South America or the Amazon, but you can't think that it could happen on your farm," said Maarja Baumann, owner of Saareõue OÜ, who said the situation could never be prevented as it cannot be predicted where lightning will strike.
The farm now quickly needs to find a new breeding bull but finding one which meets the required standard may be difficult, the newspaper reported.

Hokkaido Prefectural Police's Monbetsu Police Station is trying to identify the individual and the cause of their death. The gender of the body was not immediately known.
According to the police station, an employee of the district forest office called police at around 2:30 p.m. on July 12, saying, "Someone has collapsed."
The body had sustained wounds to the head, and a backpack and other belongings were found nearby. Animal dung was also spotted near the scene.

Body of suspected bear attack victim found in Hokkaido town
An unidentified body has been found in bushes in a Hokkaido town in what appears to be a bear attack, police said.
The remains, of unknown sex, were found in the Hokkaido town of Fukushima at around 10:20 a.m. on July 2. As it is severely damaged with some parts missing, Hokkaido Prefectural Police's Matsumae Police Station suspects that the person was attacked by a brown bear. A woman in her 70s in the neighborhood is missing, and police believe the body may be hers. They are working to identify the body.
According to the police station, the woman left her home on the morning of July 1 to work in her farm field. She did not come home that evening and her relatives contacted police the following morning. The body was found approximately 30 meters from the field during a search by officers and town hall staff.
The mother found her daughter in critical condition when she returned home around 11 p.m. The girl died of her injuries in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Firefighters and police who arrived at the scene noticed that the dog - the American Stafford - was still very aggressive. According to the prosecutor, the officers had no choice but to shoot the dog.
There were two other dogs in the same house but they did not appear to be involved in the attack. The three dogs belong to the mother's partner. A judicial investigation has begun.
