Christopher Allen Whiteley was reported missing on Thursday after last being seen early Wednesday morning in Lipan, Texas, said the Sheriff's office of Hood County on Saturday.
The investigators found Whiteley's body in a wooded area of rural Texas, which was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The preliminary report blamed the death on a "wild animal attack, possibly a mountain lion."
However, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department drew a contradictory conclusion and in a statement to the Sheriff's office said that experts who inspected the scene found no evidence of a "predatory attack by a mountain lion at the location where the victim was found."
There have been no confirmed fatal attacks by mountain lions in the state of Texas, according to the wildlife department.

The KI researchers identified 12 different neuronal subtypes (confetti) in the small intestine of mouse, and discovered that these develop through two embryonic neuron prototypes (sprinkled confetti streams).
Our approximately seven-metre long gastrointestinal (GI) tract has its own functionally distinct neurons. Since this enteric nervous system (ENS) operates autonomously, it is sometimes referred to as the "second" or "abdominal" brain.
While the ENS controls muscle movement (peristalsis) in the gut and its fluid balance and blood flow, it also communicates with the immune system and microbiome. It therefore has a systemic affect on the body and is thought to be involved in a wide range of diseases. Some 30 percent of the population are estimated to live with permanent gastrointestinal complications.
Using single-cell sequencing, a method that enables scientists to functionally categorise and classify individual cells by determining which genes are active in them, researchers from Karolinska Institutet have now mapped the neurons that make up the mouse ENS.

Whale sharks are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL) in Denpasar said that the whale shark was found by local residents at 5am on Sunday. A team from the center was then dispatched to the location, wherein they proceeded to move the carcass to Bugbug Beach for burial, as Candidasa was determined to be too rocky to do so.
The whale shark, a female, was estimated to be around 5 meters long and weighed about 1 ton. Authorities said there was bleeding around the whale shark's mouth due to suspected collision with coral reefs, and that it had died only a few hours before it was found.
Yet their status as sacred creatures has not stopped some wild elephants from killing three Buddhist monks in three separate incidents recently within the space of a few weeks. Not surprisingly, the killing of the monks by wild elephants has shocked many of the faithful.
"Elephants injure and kill people sometimes, I know, but I assumed they would leave monks unharmed because of their holy power," Sudarat Saetang, a Buddhist, told UCA News.

A kangaroo attacked a female jogger and chased her to a house in a scene 'like a horror movie' which was blamed on her perfume driving the animal wild (file photo)
Tracy Noonan was knocked to the ground and scratched in the back by the kangaroo while going for a run near Melbourne, saying she had 'felt a massive thump in the middle of my back' and turned round to see the marsupial standing over her.
After taking refuge in a nearby house, she looked outside and saw the animal continuing to watch her for the next 20 minutes, she told 3AW radio.
A ranger told her that the scent of the Sarah Jessica Parker perfume she was wearing had likely attracted the kangaroo's attention, she said.

The animals appear to be Glaucus atlanticus, a type of sea slug that is also known as the sea swallow and the blue angel among other nicknames.
The creatures were found on Fish Hoek Beach, where they were photographed by Maria Wagener, who runs a Facebook page about the shore and its sealife.
Ms Wagener said she found around 20 on the beach, adding that she had never seen the creatures before, despite living near the beach for most of her life.
