Objective:Health: #22 - ‌Poisoned Agriculture, Poisoned World

O:H header
The 'Green Revolution' marked a turning point in the progress of our civilization. While it was, and still is, hailed as a triumph of technology, utilizing chemistry to revive over-farmed soils and increase crop yields worldwide, it took us down a path that has lead us to where we are now. There are 34,000 pesticides currently registered for use in the US by the EPA and modern agriculture has become completely reliant on their use.

This increasing reliance on technology, and the movement away from nature, has cost us dearly. Our soils have been poisoned, our air is toxic and the entire planetary ecosystem suffers from mass death and destruction, while our foods become increasingly depleted of nutrition. It's an entirely unsustainable practice, yet with the introduction of GMOs, there is no sign of it letting up. We're on a runaway train that is heading for an inevitable crash.

But not all hope is lost. Recent movements towards sustainable and regenerative agriculture, that work within the rhythms of nature to benefit both the environment and ourselves, are gaining momentum. Many groups are achieving impressive results with farming methods that build rather than destroy.

Will the Big Ag monocroppers continue their path of destruction toward inevitable planetary collapse, or will the growing movement be able to convince the world we need to change? Join us on this episode of Objective:Health for a lively discussion on the future of agriculture and our planet.

MindMatters: "Everybody Knows That!" - Mass Beliefs and the Ideas That Shape Them

everybody knows that
If you're human, then chances are you believe something that "everybody knows" to be true. And if you're a thinking human, then chances are you know that such beliefs can turn out to be not so true after all. Everybody knew saturated fat is bad for you, after all. But now they don't and the opposite is true. Fancy that! Whether it's beliefs, emotions, or behaviors, social contagion is a real thing, and it's the shared nature of these phenomena that hold communities together in one relatively cohesive whole. Good, bad, or ugly, we all have to deal with trends, fads, memes, and world views.

But every mass belief has to start somewhere. How do we account for the source of new ideas? If two or more people come up with the same new idea at the same time, with no knowledge of each other, how do we account for that? Coincidence? Or something more? On a more general level, where do ideas even come from? What is creativity? How to trends propagate? And what is it that gives them their stubborn power to resist change?

Tune in today to MindMatters, where we tackle the age-old conflict between stability and change, repetition and novelty, order and chaos - and the mass beliefs that hold them all together.

Objective:Health #21 - Iatrogenesis - Death by Modern Medicine

O:H header
Iatrogenesis, from the Greek; Iatros, meaning doctor, and Genesis, meaning origin. The word means anything that comes from the result of working with a physician, but is usually used in terms of noxious, unintended, and undesired effects of medical therapies. Whether physician error, negative effects of drugs, therapies or procedures, iatrogenesis has been declared to be the number three killer of people in the United States; the number five killer worldwide.

Given such incredible numbers, questions inevitably arise. How can a system of healing be responsible for such huge numbers of fatalities and serious injuries? Is this simply the 'cost of doing business,' or is there something seriously wrong with modern medicine?

Oliver Wendell Holmes, an American physician and a medical reformer of the 19th century, said, "I firmly believe that if the whole materia medica, as used now could be sunk to the bottom of the sea, it would be all the better for mankind and all the worse for the fishes." It seems we've made little progress since Holmes' time.

Join us on this episode of Objective:Health as we discuss the topic of iatrogenesis; when attempts at healing cause harm.

MindMatters: The Nature of Reality: Mindless Matter, or Universal Consciousness?

homer
© SOTT
What is the nature of reality, and why does it matter? Whether we know it or not, we all have a worldview - a set of very core beliefs and assumptions about the way the world works and our place within it. Sometimes those assumptions work, sometimes they don't, but as long as they are left unexamined, we can't say we've come any closer to actually understanding who we are and what we're doing. That's the great gift that philosophy can give us: a roadmap for meaning.

That doesn't mean it's easy, of course. The number of options on the table is daunting. Is materialism true? Are we just chunks of meat, devoid of any degree of freedom to choose? Are we disembodied minds dreaming up our own existence? Is consciousness fundamental, or an epiphenomenon of a more fundamental, senseless matter? The fact is, our beliefs will influence how we live our lives, whether we know it or not. So why not take a closer look at those beliefs?

Today on MindMatters, we do just that, taking a look at some of the offerings on the philosophical table - including the idealism presented by Bernardo Kastrup in his book, The Idea of the World. As Socrates said, the unexamined life is not worth living. Well, according to the dominant philosophical worldview today - physicalism - the world is still not worth living. So join us as we try to find an alternative that makes life great again - in which meaning and consciousness have a real role to play, and set the stage for the strange and mysterious adventure we call reality.

Objective:Health #20 - The World Health Organization - WHO The Hell Are These Guys?

O:H header
Earlier this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) released their top 10 threats to global health. It's a mixed bag of threats; some seemingly legitimate, some being little more than fearmongering propaganda.

Join us on this episode of Objective: Health as we go through the WHO list point by point and try to give a more objective perspective on their claims. We also take a look at the organization itself, questioning whose interests are actually being served by announcing these dire health threats. And finally, we give our own top 10 list of what we consider to be the most pressing current threats to your health - it's a very different list! MindMatters: Do You Believe In God? Jordan Peterson on Consciousness and Faith

believe in god
© SOTT
"Do you believe in God?" It's the mother of all loaded questions. What does the questioner really want to know? That you're part of their tribe? Whether or not you're a superstitious simpleton? What do they mean by belief? What do they mean by God? It's not a simple question, and the answer is never so simple as yes or no.

In his recently published talk, "Who Dares Say He Believes in God?", Jordan Peterson gives his reasons for not liking the question. But he goes deeper into the question behind the question than he ever has. What does it really mean to believe in God? What implications does that have for who you must be as a person? And given those implications, who can dare to even utter the words without the fear of God reducing them to a mass of lightning-struck insignificance?

Today on MindMatters we discuss our thoughts on Peterson's talk, bringing out the connections to other streams of philosophy, psychology, and early Christian belief. It turns out that the Apostle Paul probably would have given an answer very similar to Peterson: belief without action is hollow, because a true belief will transform you completely.

Objective:Health #19 - ADHD - Childhood Epidemic or Pharmaceutical Scam?

O:H header
ADHD is a controversial subject. While the psychiatric industry would have you believe that ADHD is a legitimate diagnosis, the truth is much more surprising.

In order to determine whether a child, or adult, has ADHD, only a vague set of parameters need to be met before medication is prescribed (and many of these parameters also describe normal childhood behavior). There are no brain scans, blood tests or hard scientific analyses associated with ADHD, only a checklist, subject to the biases of the psychiatrist or medical doctor. Possible causes of behavior issues are not considered and once a diagnosis is made, medication is the next step.

Even more problematic are that the drugs prescribed for ADHD are dangerous, and not only due to its side effects. Even when working properly, ADHD medications crush the creative spirit of children, turning them into obsessively obedient automatons. Being prescribed powerful, mind-altering psychotropic medications in childhood, when the brain is still developing, sets them up for a lifetime of problems. The fact that the medications are addictive is also problematic, to say the least.

Join us on this episode of Objective: Health as we look into the terrifying world of ADHD. What are we doing to our kids?

And stay tuned for Zoya's Pet Health Segment, as she looks at the many possible reasons a cat may be vomiting.

MindMatters: The Triumph of Irrationalism and the Death of Metaphysics

metaphysics
© SOTT
Between hysteria, censorship, endless war and climate catastrophe it seems the world has fallen victim to chaos and irrationality. On today's show we take a hard look at the origins of this madness and what to do about it, utilizing a work by one of our favorite philosophers, R.G. Collingwood.

Collingwood, an English philosopher, archaeologist and historian, passed away in 1943. But just three years before he passed he published An Essay on Metaphysics and left the world a rigorous defense of truth, ethics, and metaphysics, as well as a warning as to what would happen if these 'ancient sciences' were neglected or cast aside by future generations.

On today's show we utilize the work that he left behind in order to understand why the world is the way it is, and to explore what it takes to be rational in a time of complete chaos.

MindMatters: How Responding to Evil Can Unite Humanity

pathocracy
© SOTT
What is the fate of the average individual when psychopaths openly govern a country and pathological individuals occupy every office of importance across society? Join us today as we seek answers to these questions and continue our conversation on Chapter 5 of Andrew Lobaczewski's Political Ponerology.

In previous shows we discussed how schizoid individuals create grand ideologies, character-disturbed people weaponize them and turn them into a mass movement, and how psychopaths infiltrate these movements and, through their influence, serve as conduits for something that is as close to 'hell on earth' as we can imagine.

But today we talk about what comes after the pathocracy has firmly established itself. How do ordinary people learn to navigate a labyrinth of evil while still maintaining functioning families, economies, and society as a whole? And how is all of this relevant for the West today?

Objective:Health #18 - Attack of the Soyboys - The Feminization of Men‌‌

O:H header
We all know the stereotype of the Soyboy - males lacking in manliness, utterly subservient, usually declaring themselves to be a 'male feminist' and generally wallowing in the self-hating guilt of being an oppressive male. It's a clever meme based on the conception that soy consumption leads to a feminization in men. But it's just a meme, isn't it?

As with many examples, stereotypes are sometimes based on truth. Phytoestrogens, plant compounds naturally found in some of the foods we eat that mimic the hormone estrogen, particularly prevalent in soy, have been found in many scientific studies to cause this feminization, as well as playing havoc with the hormones of women. These findings are controversial (mostly because industry funded studies often come to the opposite conclusions), but it's a safe bet that there's at least some validity to the notion. Why take the risk?

On top of soy, there are a whole host of environmental chemicals that also have an estrogen mimicking effect. Called xenoestrogens, these chemicals are found in plastics, food additives, chemicals in body-care products, pesticides and herbicides - we are literally swimming in a sea of gender-bending chemicals 24 hours a day.

Today on Objective:Health, we provide a tentative answer to the proverbial question of our times: Where have all the real men gone? We also talk about how to avoid exposure to these feminizing chemicals, offer some solutions on detoxing foreign estrogenic compounds and give tips on boosting our own testosterone.
