West Coast authorities have reported that at least 23 people have died in wildfires that are raging in California, Oregon and Washington state, as more than 500,000 Oregonians are forced to evacuate due to 100 major fires that have devastated nearly 4.4 million acres across 12 states.

A Northern California wildfire became the state's deadliest of the year Thursday when authorities announced seven more deaths. Officials said the number may rise as searchers looked for 16 missing people.

Three other deaths have been confirmed in Oregon and one in Washington state, authorities said.

Authorities in Oregon said Thursday night that more than 500,000 people statewide were forced to evacuate due to wildfires. The latest figures come from the Oregon Office of Emergency Management. That's over 10 per cent of the state's 4.2 million population.

More than 1,400 square miles have burned this week in the state. Authorities say the wildfire activity was particularly acute Thursday afternoon in northwestern Oregon as hot, windy conditions continued.

The remains of three people were discovered north of Sacramento near the site of a large-scale wildfire, which has left several others seriously injured as rescuers search for 12 missing persons amid the blaze.

Two of the deceased victims were discovered in one location, while the third was found separately, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said, noting they had not yet been identified.

Out of 85 missing persons reports filed in relation to the fire, 12 have not yet been located, he added. Several others were severely wounded after being trapped overnight in the inferno, dubbed the 'Bear Fire,' according to CalFire Battalion Chief Sean Norman.

"We were rescuing people most of the night. We had several critical burn injuries of civilians we were able to rescue and bring into the fire station and then get them off the hill," the fire chief said.

Strong wind and hot, dry conditions are making for critical fire conditions across the Pacific Northwest.

The Oregon Office of Emergency Management says there are more than 480 active fires across the state, adding that more than 2.5 million acres have been burned. Governor Kate Brown invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act Tuesday afternoon.

Several fast-moving fires prompted evacuation orders in communities across Oregon and Southwest Washington overnight Monday and into Tuesday.

More than two million acres have burned so far this year in California - a record.

Wildfires continue to rage across the state, and officials issued a new state of emergency in five counties.

Authorities say over 12,000 firefighters are battling more than 20 major fires in California.

Officials warn conditions could get even worse due to record-breaking heat. Los Angeles County on Sunday hit 121 degrees.

Adding to that were high winds in many areas, which forecasters say could make the fight more difficult.

The Pine Gulch fire has become the largest blaze in Colorado history, having torched more than 139,000 acres.

Incident command provided an updated size for the fire near Grand Junction on Thursday night.

The blaze is now larger than the 2002 Hayman fire west of Colorado Springs, which burned roughly 138,000 acres and destroyed 133 homes. The Hayman fire, which was previously the state's largest wildland blaze, was also blamed for several deaths.

The Pine Gulch fire has not destroyed any homes or caused any injuries, but firefighters have been battling it for about a month. It started on July 31 and was ignited by lightning.

The fire was 77% contained as of Thursday evening.

Three other major fires are burning in Colorado. No homes have been destroyed or injuries reported from any of them.

Raging wildfires in forests and grasslands are spreading in northern and central Argentina, with outbreaks in at least a dozen provinces.

The Paraná Delta is experiencing its worst week since the beginning of the year, with fires stretching over hundreds of kilometres of grassland and wetland.

Fires have also been seen in the north and centre of the country, with officials in Córdoba Province on Monday reporting evacuations and an "extreme risk" of further outbreaks in the coming days thanks to dry and windy weather.

According to Reuters, at least 14,321 hectares (55 square miles) of grasslands and mountainous territory have so far been burned, mainly in the northern areas of Punilla and Ischilín.

Our food supply is under all out attack. WA and MI have followed CA in mandating COVID-19 testing for farmworkers, which--as we have seen in Ontario--presages their shutting down farms where workers test positive. Depriving farms of harvest labor is unthinkable. More California wildfires expected. Two hurricanes inbound to gulf, rice-producing areas. You must start growing your own food now.
