Volcanoes
The South East crater began erupting at 9.20pm on Sunday (local time, 9.20am Monday NZT), according to volcanodiscovery.com.
The website estimated lava from the volcano was reaching heights of more than 100m, while red lava and plumes of smoke was filmed from a distance by an observer.
The eruption was classified as a strombolian activity, which is when a volcano erupts causing a shower of lava fragments, according to GNS Science.
In an update from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy, it said there was a "significant decrease in the explosive activity at the South East crater".

The Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka, Russia is seen in a radar image captured aboard NASA's Space Shuttle Endeavor, October 3, 1994.
In remarkable footage, it can be seen spouting lava and a thick column of ash into the night sky over the remote region, which borders the Pacific Ocean.
First reported by Russia's Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Group (KVERT), Tuesday night's eruption sent molten rock pouring down the volcano's southern slope, creeping for nearly a mile (1.5km) before solidifying. The discharge, which ejected a plume of ash over 4 miles (7km) high, was captured in a video obtained by RT's sister agency, Ruptly.
They say despite an increase in seismic activity, no eruption is expected in the short term.
"No risk, no alert, no concern for the population," the Mayor of Saint-Pierre, Christian Rapha, was quoted by Martinique 1Ere as saying.
He noted that Soufrière in Guadeloupe has been classified in yellow since 1999.
Yellow is the third level of alert on a scale of 5, followed by the pre-alert in orange then the red alert.
If that sounds 'normal' for some of you, there have been at least 5 major explosions in the last 3 days... And that's a pretty high number, I would say.
Now, discover below these latest volcanic eruptions in pictures and videos:
Sakurajima volcano, Japan - Dec. 2nd
An explosion was registered at 11:55 a.m. JST with ballistic fragments being ejected and pounding the slopes.

In its 8 a.m. volcano bulletin, Phivolcs said Taal Volcano also emitted steam-laden plumes at the main crater vents.
Weak to moderate degassing activity in Daang Kastila Trail were also recorded in the volcano.
The agency also noted that the northwestern part of the Taal Caldera still has inflation while the southwestern part showed no changes after the Taal eruption.
The agency spokesperson Raditya Jati said that 300 of these people fled to an observation post, and the rest stayed at shelters located in the Supiturang village.
The volcano, located in the Lumajang district of the East Java province, erupted at 1:23 a.m. local time on Tuesday. It released lava of up to 1 km and hot clouds of up to 11 km towards the Besok Kobokan area, southeast of the summit.
At 3:00 a.m. local time, rain fell with the rain water mixed with the volcanic ash around the observation post.
"We estimate this condition happened due to the quite strong potential hot lava," Jati said.
