Grants Pass, OR - Scientists have finally discovered the primary cause of global warming: local kid Oliver Paulson, who left the front door wide open dozens of times while the heater was on this past weekend.

Every time the boy runs inside from playing, he leaves the front door open, and it looks like we're all going to pay the price from his carelessness.

After a record-cold Thanksgiving, temperatures continued to plummet as heavy snowfall across the Midwest grounded or delayed over 6,000 flights, wreaking havoc on Americans' holiday travel plans.

The Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend is usually the busiest travel day of the year, as millions of Americans return home from visiting relatives. However, much of the country was snowed in this year, leading to over 1,200 flight cancellations and 5,000 delays, according to FlightAware.com.

Comment: With a grand solar minimum on the way, storms like this are becoming more and more commonplace.

Calgary breaks 76-year snowfall record, adding to unusually snowy year

Calgarians found themselves navigating a nasty drive home on Friday as a band of snow blanketed the region.

Snowfall warnings were issued around 5 p.m. for Calgary, and areas north, east and south of the city. That warning stayed in place until early Saturday morning.

Environment Canada said Saturday that 13.2 cm of snow fell on Friday, which marks a new snowfall record for Nov. 23. The previous record was set in 1942 when 9.4 cm of snow fell.

November is normally the third snowiest month of the year with an average of 16.6 cm of snow over the 30 days. This year, Calgary has experienced a higher-than-average amount of snow for the month, already sitting at 23.7 cm as of Nov. 23.

This comes on the heels of a historically wet October that brought nearly five times the average amount of snow, ending the month with 48.4 cm of snow.

According to Environment Canada historical data, there has been a notable uptick of days with heavy accumulations of snow this year. Calgary will usually see one to two days with snowfall accumulations of at least 10 cm throughout the year; so far in 2018, there have been four days with over 10 cm of snow, one each in February, March, October and November.

Comment: Chilly weather is smashing cold records all across Canada this month. Meanwhile from the Prairies to Prince Edward Island, a harsh fall harvest means Canada could be facing a serious potato shortage, one that may cause millions of dollars worth of Canadian potatoes to rot in the ground this year.

Crop and cattle losses are on the rise everywhere, whether it is due to extensive drought, massive hail, epic flooding, unexpected frosts, and even epidemics. See also: Erratic seasons and extreme weather devastating crops around the world

Back-to-back nights of single-digit overnight temperatures in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this week have killed over 80 sea turtles, most of which were endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. The turtles were found washed ashore frozen solid on beaches in Brewster, Orleans and Eastham.

On Wednesday morning, 87 turtles were found washed ashore, but most survived. The 82 sea turtles found on Thursday morning were not so lucky. Since late October, over 400 cold-stunned turtles have been reported, according to Jennette Kerr, Communications Coordinator of the Massachusetts Audubon Society's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.

The first snow of the winter arrived in Seoul on Saturday, which marked the heaviest level for the first snowfall in history, the state meteorological office said.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said it lifted the heavy snow warning at 9:40 a.m., some three hours after it first issued the notice.

It said Seoul saw a record 8.8 centimeters of snow as of 10:00 a.m., outnumbering the earlier record of 4.5 cm tallied in 1990.

The KMA started to compile related data in 1981.

I was wondering how long it would take for media outlets to start with the "Record Cold Thanksgiving caused by Global Warming" headlines, the answer - less than 24 hours. They state CO2 is to blame, and summer will be hotter, so we look at the Southern hemisphere where record cold and snow dump in Australia, Southern Africa way cold, South America way cold and frost on crops. Yep, hotter summers which is a week away as the official date, but its going to snow in Australia at the beginning of SUMMER.

In many parts of Canada, the final month of fall started off feeling a lot more like winter.

At one point early Thursday morning, 11 of Canada's 13 provincial and territorial capitals were experiencing below-freezing temperatures. The exceptions were St. John's, N.L. - which just barely snuck above freezing at 0.1 C - and Victoria, where it was a balmy 8 C.

Record-breaking cold was reported in dozens of communities across Eastern Canada, including Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Environment Canada said more than 20 communities in Ontario experienced temperatures Thursday morning colder than they had ever recorded on Nov. 22.

In Toronto, a temperature of -15.4 C was recorded at Buttonville Municipal Airport, breaking the previous daily record of -14.1 C from 2008.
