You'd expect the spot that holds the World Record for most snow in a season to get quite a bit of snow in a winter, and this year was no different for Mt. Baker.

The ski resort declared their 2017-2018 season over on Monday, and what a season it was. The resort measured 840 inches of total snow through Monday -- 70 feet! That's the third-highest amount recorded this century, behind last year's 866 inches and the 857 inches recorded in 2010-2011.

Their 15 year average is 663 inches.

After a fully wintry three weeks in April, Michigan still has a significant amount of land covered in snow. One area still has almost three feet of snow on the ground.

Michigan has 37 percent of our ground still covered with snow on April 24, 2018. That's down from 49 percent on March 24, 2018.

The snow is melting fast. The average snow depth at locations with snow is only 2.9 inches. However, there are places that have much more snow on the ground.

Heat index over 41 degrees Celsius in several areas in the Philippines

heatwave
Filipinos across the country are at risk of heat exhaustion and even heat stroke as the heat index spiked to over 41 degrees Celsius in several areas.

According to data released by PAGASA, the heat index rose past 41°C in at least 14 areas in the country on Sunday, April 22, rising to a high of 47.7°C in Sangley Point in Cavite.

The heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels, and is essentially the "apparent temperature" felt by the human body, which is computed by factoring in the humidity as well as the ambient dry bulb temperature (what we usually think of as air temperature in general).

Detroit headed for coldest April in 143 years

No, you're not crazy. It has been the coldest April in more than 140 years.

A year ago today, on April 19, 2017, it was 78 degrees and sunny, while Thursday's expected high is 48 degrees, said National Weather Service meteorologist Trent Frey.

As of Thursday, the average temperature for April is 38.3 degrees, slightly warmer than April 1874, the coldest on record at 37.6 degrees.

"The average high (in April) for Detroit last year was 60 degrees, believe it or not," Frey said. "If April ended tomorrow, it would be the second-coldest on record."

He said if the weather stays consistent, April will be on track to be the coldest since 1874, but it looks like it should warm up this weekend. Weekend highs are expected to be in the mid- to upper 50s.

The month's warmest day so far was April 12, with a high of 76 degrees, and the coldest was April 8, when it got down to 21 degrees.

"We're going through a pattern change in Metro Detroit right now and things should start to moderate back to normal," Frey said.

So far, 2.4 inches of snow has fallen in April in what feels like a never-ending winter, Frey said. Metro Detroit is not expected to get any more snow in the foreseeable future; however, "it can't be ruled out."

Srinagar-Leh highway closed due to heavy snowfall
Dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) were cut off from their district and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Bandipora following closure of Sadhna, Razdan passes and Phirkyan and Z-Gali due to fresh snowfall.

There was over three feet of fresh snow at Razdan pass, connecting Bandipora with border town of Gurez which is surrounded by Pakistan-administered-Kashmir (PaK), an official of Police Control Room (PCR) from Bandipora told UNI over phone. He said traffic was suspended on Friday on the road due to snow and slippery road condition. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the road has already pressed into service sophisticated machine and men to clear the snow, he said.

Adapt 2030 Ice Age Report: Record cold and snow persist across the northern Hemisphere

snow
Record cold and snow still pervade the Northern Hemisphere even through late spring with more snow on the way for India and the USA. UK coldest in 42 years, farm animal losses in the fields, massive floods in Hawaii, out of season snow and rain in the middle of the dry season in the Himalaya. The add in record cold in Detroit and Chicago , coldest in 140 years, but its supposedly all explainable through CO2, but maybe we should look at another explanation, the Sun and its 400 year Grand Solar Minimum cycle.
