Welcome to Canada where seasons mean nothing and the weather changes in the blink of an eye. The latest victim of Canada's unpredictable weather patterns is none other than our western most province, British Columbia.

BC was hit this past weekend with about a foot of snow in some areas, or for those of us using the metric system, anywhere from 22 - 40 cms of snow accumulated in parts of the province.

Record cold mornings in the Center of Russia

The past night in most of the European territory was cold, the average daily air temperature was 2-4 degrees below the climatic norm. Above the central regions the average daily value lagged behind the perennial by 6 degrees.

Record low temperatures for June 6 were set in Tula +4.7, half a degree below the previous +5.2 set in 2008.

In Orel, the air cooled to +3.6°C, compared to the 1962 temperature of +5°C.

In Yelets, it dropped to +4.3°C, beating the previous record of +5.0°C set in 1968.

An unusual "killer" frost has caused widespread damage to crops in the Maritimes, with everything from Nova Scotian wine grapes to Island asparagus harmed by a sharp plunge in spring temperatures.

Farmers were beginning to assess the toll from the June cold front that hit Monday, as word came from Environment Canada of yet another frost advisory for early Thursday in all of Atlantic Canada.

"It's the beginning of the year and it's a bad time for something like this to happen, just as the growing season begins," Keith Colwell, Nova Scotia's minister of agriculture, said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

It's just the second snowfall for Cape Breton in the month for 43 years, says Environment Canada

Cape Bretoners woke up to snow on Wednesday.

Traipsing through the snow and slush isn't something people are used to doing in June, but it's something those in the Cape Breton Highlands had to do this morning.

Linda Libby, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said it's uncommon to see snow in Cape Breton in June, but it's not unheard of either.

"We really only have one report ever occurring in June," she said. "It's actually later than this — on June 9, 1975 — when you picked up a whole centimetre, which is pretty good."

Continental US just had warmest May in 124 years - a month after record wet and cold

May 2018 was the hottest of any May in 124 years of recording keeping for the continental United States, eclipsing the extreme heat of that month in the 1930s during the Dust Bowl era.

The average temperature for the Lower 48 states last month was 65.41 degrees Fahrenheit, 5.21 degrees Fahrenheit above the 1901-2000 average, according to the state of the climate report released by NOAA on Wednesday.

That knocked out May 1934 for the warmest May on record. Rounding out the top five warmest Mays are 1936, 2012 and 2000.

Eight of the 12 calendar months have now notched warmth records since 1998: January (2006), March (2012), April (2006), May (2018), June (2016), September (1998), November (1999) and December (2015).

Last month, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma and Virginia broke state warmth records. Another eight states from Washington to Rhode Island had their second-warmest Mays.

All told, May 2018 ranked among the top 10 warmest on record for 40 of the Lower 48 states. No state was colder than average in May.

More than 8,590 warm temperature records were broken or tied last month at individual weather stations across the U.S., NOAA said. The number of cold temperature records broken or tied in May pales in comparison at just over 450.

Last month was a reversal from April 2018, which ranked as the coldest in more than two decades. The waves of cold air that kept the central and eastern states shivering in April gave way to record or near-record warmth in some of the same areas.

Snow follows record breaking May heatwave in northern Sweden

After bathing in an unusually early summer heatwave over the last month, northern Sweden has had a rude awakening this week as temperatures plummeted and snow fell in a dramatic change of weather.

This year Sweden experienced its warmest May on record, with sun and prolonged dry spells across the country, but the glorious weather came to an abrupt end on Monday night.

In the south that meant temperatures in the mere teens; in the north it meant sudden snowfall, as captured by an employee of the Coop supermarket in Katterjåkk near the northern Swedish border.

Global cooling: Snow falls in June on Charlottetown, Canada

The Adirondack chairs are out, but the snow was falling.

It started well mixed in with the rain and then it began to become more clear. It is June 6 and it is snowing in Charlottetown.

It started around 6:30 a.m. and was still falling at 7 a.m. The temperature was hovering at 2 C.

"It dipped a degree or two cooler than expected," said CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland, one of a number of Islanders who recorded the snowfall on social media.

"It's June 6 and I'm having a hard time coping."

The calendar may say June but some parts of New England are not quite yet ready to give way to summer.

The Mount Washington Observatory shared a video Tuesday of snow falling atop the highest peak in the northeast.

The National Weather Service says about an inch of snow falls on the summit every June.

On Monday, temperatures plummeted to 26 degrees. A thick layer of ice built up after freezing rain fell.

American Airlines plane damaged by hailstorm

An American Airlines flight over Texas was forced to make an emergency landing after being heavily damaged, smashed and battered by a sever hail storm which shattered the nose cone, windshield and side windows of the plane. Huge hail stones in Italy and record snow in Newfoundland St Johns Canada on June 4th, buy the media quickly removed the videos, but I was able other images on Twitter.
