Professor Valentina Zharkova: "We entered the 'modern' Grand Solar Minimum on June 8, 2020"

Grand Solar Minimum snow

A new editorial paper has landed from professor Valentina Zharkova, entitled: "Modern Grand Solar Minimum will Lead to Terrestrial Cooling". Published on August 4, 2020, Zharkova's latest analysis suggests that June 8, 2020 was the date on which we entered the Modern (Eddy) Grand Solar Minimum.

The opening paragraph reads:

"In this editorial I will demonstrate with newly discovered solar activity proxy-magnetic field that the Sun has entered into the modern Grand Solar Minimum (2020-2053) that will lead to a significant reduction of solar magnetic field and activity like during Maunder minimum leading to noticeable reduction of terrestrial temperature."

Another passage states:

"Currently, the Sun has completed solar cycle 24 - the weakest cycle of the past 100+ years - and in 2020, has started cycle 25. During the periods of low solar activity, such as the modern grand solar minimum, the Sun will often be devoid of sunspots. This is what is observed now at the start of this minimum, because in 2020 the Sun has seen, in total, 115 spotless days (or 78%), meaning 2020 is on track to surpass the space-age record of 281 spotless days (or 77%) observed in 2019. However, the cycle 25 start is still slow in firing active regions and flares, so with every extra day/week/month that passes, the null in solar activity is extended marking a start of grand solar minimum."

UK - Worst wheat harvest in decades - Cold & wet

Only a small amount of this year's wheat crop is high quality

Only a small amount of this year's wheat crop is high quality
Shades of the Maunder Minimum and the Little Ice Age.

The UK's worst wheat harvest in about 40 years has prompted fears of higher prices of flour, and subsequently of bread and other flour-based products.

Due to heavy rain last October, only 60% of what would normally be planted went into the ground. Add in the sunniest spring since 1929, substantially drier than usual, followed by the wettest February ever recorded, and you get the picture.

Recent droughts, with the longest period of temperatures above 34C since records began in 1961, followed by August downpours and thunderstorms have reduced the quality of wheat, according to the National Farmers' Union (NFU) and reports by Sky News.

Parts of Australia have seen a rare covering of snow after Antarctic winds reached the nation's southeast coast.

Snowfall was recorded across New South Wales (NSW), Victoria, the Australia Capital Territory and the island state of Tasmania as locals ventured out to make the most of the spring weather.

"We've seen light snow make it to Canberra today, and yes even heard a few rogue flakes landed on Parliament House," in the nation's capital, the Bureau of Meteorology said in a Twitter post.

The bureau added that more than one metre (3.3 feet) of snow had fallen in a number of alpine regions, and the cold weather would likely remain for several days.

"It's awesome," Raj Kumar told the Seven Network after he had travelled from Sydney with his family to see the weather phenomenon in the town of Oberon in NSW's Blue Mountains.
