The bureau initially reported that an earthquake of 7.1 had occurred at 5.31am ADET, which would be classified as a major earthquake, but the intensity was later reported as 7.0, which is considered strong.
The quake struck 119 kilometres south west of Dadali, in the Solomon Islands, and 176 kilometres north west of the capital, Honiara.
Some "light" shaking was expected on the Solomon Islands, according to the United States Geological Survey's Earthquake Hazards Program.
There was no tsunami threat to Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Today's quake, 32km west-south-west of Nidri, on the island of Lefkada, registered as a 4.7 magnitude.
This was smaller than the one which struck off the same island yesterday, in which at least two people have been killed.
The US Geological Survey said the second quake occurred at around 5:18am UTC.
While aftershocks are common, and usually weaker than the original earthquake, the group warned there was sometimes a higher risk of damage because of any residual impact on buildings from the original quake. it also warned of possible tsunamis.
There are no reports currently of any injuries.
Residents in the town, south of Gothenburg, reported feeling the earthquake at around 7.15pm.
"The floor started shaking and the neighbours' dog barked," Camilla Rowan told Swedish newspaper the Gothenburg Post.
"My son called me and asked what was going on. It was only a few seconds," she added.
Others turned to social media to describe their experiences.
The earthquake, which struck at 11:29 p.m. local time on Tuesday, was centered about 31 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of Osh, the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan. It struck about 15.6 kilometers (9.7 miles) deep, making it a very shallow earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The European Mediterranean Seismological Center measured the earthquake at a preliminary 5.9, while the USGS measured it at 5.5.
The earthquake was widely felt in the region but there was no immediate word about damage or casualties.
Local officials were not immediately available to comment and no other details were available.
The quake hit early Tuesday, with the initial reading adjusted to 6.8 and the depth changed to 5 kilometers, according to the scientists. According to the University of Athens, the magnitude was 5.9.
The Kandilli Observatory in Istanbul said that the tremor struck at a depth of 7.7 kilometers in the Sea of Marmara, to the south of the city, at 5:45 pm (1545 GMT).
The quake was felt throughout Istanbul, a metropolis of some 16 million that serves as the country's financial and cultural hub.
Istanbul residents felt the ground shift, causing a brief panic, an AFP correspondent said.
It said that the quake was felt at around 8:36 am and was located 10.89 degrees north and 62.32 west. It had a depth of 79 kilometers.
Meanwhile, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday night between Honduras and the Cayman islands.
The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake which struck at around 6:49 pm (Honduras time) was centered about 167 kilometers south, south west of Georgetown in the Cayman Islands.
The quake was also felt 420 kilometers west of Montego Bay in Jamaica.
The earthquake, which struck at 6:39 p.m. local time in Honduras or 7:39 p.m. local time on the Cayman Islands, was centered about 167 kilometers (104 miles) south-southwest of George Town on the Cayman Islands, or 420 kilometers (261 miles) west of Montego Bay in Jamaica. It struck about 9.1 kilometers (5.7 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Computer models from the USGS estimated that some 54,000 people may have felt weak shaking from the earthquake, which is unlikely to have caused damage or casualties. Shaking could be felt in George Town, West Bay, Bodden Town, and some other towns in the region.
No tsunami watches or warnings have been issued. "Based on earthquake information and historic tsunami records the earthquake is not expected to generate a tsunami," the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center said in a bulletin.
Other details were not immediately available.
The epicentre of the quake was close to the town of Novi Pazar.
The jolt was just slightly felt by the local residents.
There is no information about damages or injured people.
The magnitude-4.3 earthquake occurred at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey website. It was centered near Fairview, Okla., west of Enid.
Residents in Wichita, Hutchinson, Kiowa, Conway Springs, Medicine Lodge, Pratt, Kingman, Andover, Winfield, Udall, Haysville, Derby and Valley Center reported feeling the quake to the Geological Survey site.

Comment: According to this source (in Greek), the earthquake caused the death of two women, 70 and 65 years old respectively. There were also several wounded, among which were two children, and elderly woman and a middle-aged man.
