Earthquakes
The earthquake, measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, was 170 km deep, according to the National Seismology division of Ministry of Earth Sciences.
There was no report of any loss of life or damage to property till the last reports came in.
The tremor occurred at 2:07 PM and people in the national capital region rushed out of their homes.
People in Kashmir also felt the tremor.
Tremors were registered at 15:02 GMT.
The epicenter was located about 50 miles north-east of Raoul Island at the depth of approximately 61 miles.
No information about the damage or casualties was immediately available.
Parts of New Zealand lie on the so-called Ring of Fire, a horseshoe-shaped string of volcanoes around the Pacific Rim, where about 90 percent of the world's quakes occur.
That includes the 231 recent quakes in South Reno and the magnitude 4.8 in Caliente that shook Las Vegas in January 2015, according to a Thursday report from UNR.
The biggest source of shakes is the so-called Sheldon sequence in far northwest Nevada, according to the seismological lab.
In 2015 there were 4,511 earthquakes recorded in the remote Sheldon Wildlife Refuge near Vya, east of Cedarville, Calif.
Other quake-prone areas in 2015 were Caliente, Carson City and Virginia City.
The earthquake was centered about 1,032 kilometers (641 miles) southwest of Hobart on Tasmania island, or about 1,471 kilometers (914 miles) southwest of Melbourne. It struck about 8 kilometers deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to Geoscience Australia.
The earthquake, which was measured at 6.3 by the U.S. Geological Survey, is not expected to have been felt on land anywhere. Geoscience Australia said the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre had been notified, but no tsunami warnings are expected to be issued.
According the U.S. Geological Survey's website, the quake happened at 5:39 a.m. in an area 3 miles northeast of Edmond and 16 miles north-northeast of Oklahoma City.
There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
Oklahoma has become one of the most earthquake-prone areas in the world, with the number of quakes magnitude 3.0 or greater skyrocketing from a few dozen in 2012 to more than 800 in 2015. Many of the earthquakes are occurring in swarms in areas where injection wells pump salty wastewater — a byproduct of oil and gas production — into the earth.

The US Geological Survey said the tremor struck the east of the city at a depth of just 3.5 miles below the Earth's surface.
But there have been no reports of injuries or damage to property.
"It was a good shaker," diner waitress Toni Cousino told the San Bernardino County Sun.
The region is no stranger to tremors, lying where the San Andreas and San Jacinto fault lines cross.
According to the federal government's Natural Resources Canada department, the earthquake had a deep depth of 58.7 kilometres and an epicentre 19 kilometres northeast of Victoria and eight kilometres east-southeast of Sidney - right under the Strait of Georgia. It was also felt strongly on Vancouver Island and elsewhere on the B.C. South Coast.
The seismic event was originally classified as a magnitude 4.9 event by the U.S. Geological Survey, but it was downgraded shortly after.
There are no reports of any significant damage at this time. As well, no tsunami alert has been issued - a tsunami is not expected given the magnitude and location.
The quake was registered at 01:51 GMT.
The epicenter was located about 92 kilometers (57 miles) south of the town of Panguna at the depth of 47.2 kilometers.
There are currently no reports of damage or victims due to the earthquake.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck off California, 64 miles northwest of Eureka, on Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS initially measured the quake at magnitude-4.5.
The earthquake struck at 7:35 p.m. local time.
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration said there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii or the West Coast, following the temblor.
