October 21, 2002 - How to shut up your critics with a single word - Thank God, I often say, for the Israeli press. For where else will you find the sort of courageous condemnation of Israel's cruel and brutal treatment of the Palestinians? Where else can we read that Moshe Ya'alon, Ariel Sharon's new chief of staff, described the "Palestinian threat" as "like a cancer – there are all sorts of solutions to cancerous manifestations. For the time being, I am applying chemotherapy."
Where else can we read that the Israeli Herut Party chairman, Michael Kleiner, said that "for every victim of ours there must be 1,000 dead Palestinians". Where else can we read that Eitan Ben Eliahu, the former Israeli Air Force commander, said that "eventually we will have to thin out the number of Palestinians living in the territories". Where else can we read that the new head of Mossad, General Meir Dagan – a close personal friend of Mr Sharon – believes in "liquidation units", that other Mossad men regard him as a threat because "if Dagan brings his morality to the Mossad, Israel could become a country in which no normal Jew would want to live".
You will have to read all this in Ma'ariv, Ha'aretz or Yediot Ahronot because in much of the Western world, a vicious campaign of slander is being waged against any journalist or activist who dares to criticise Israeli policies or those that shape them. The all-purpose slander of "anti-Semitism" is now used with ever-increasing promiscuity against anyone – people who condemn the wickedness of Palestinian suicide bombings every bit as much as they do the cruelty of Israel's repeated killing of children – in an attempt to shut them up.
Daniel Pipes and Martin Kramer of the Middle East Forum now run a website in the United States to denounce academics who are deemed to have shown "hatred of Israel". One of the eight professors already on this contemptible McCarthyite list – it is grotesquely called "Campus Watch" – committed the unpardonable sin of signing a petition in support of the Palestinian scholar Edward Said. Pipes wants students to inform on professors who are guilty of "campus anti-Semitism". [...]
Our own John Pilger made a programme for Carlton Television called Palestine Is Still The Issue . I have watched it three times. It is accurate in every historical detail; indeed its historical adviser was a left-wing Israeli academic. But Carlton's own chairman, Michael Green – in one of the most gutless statements in recent British journalism – announced that it was "a tragedy for Israel so far as accuracy is concerned". Why Mr Green should want to utter such trash is beyond me. But what does he mean by "tragedy"? Is he comparing Pilger to a suicide bomber?
Just talking about invading Iraq has a very useful effect for President Bush. It stops a public debate about his catastrophic record as President. Indeed, had President Clinton or any Democrat a similar record, impeachment would already be underway.
Leave to one side President Bush's much discussed habit of walking away from international agreements and his wilful introduction of anarchy into international security. Take instead what might be central Republican tests of this administration. The President doing in the war on terrorism or the war on drugs? He would be judged on the United States' economic performance and the health of the stock market, and might be expected to uphold the financial probity of US capitalism. Yet, in all of these areas, the President's record is one of failure. [...]
So the President has by action and inaction undermined the economy and hurt the livelihood of Americans and people around the world, failed to prioritise hunting terrorists in advance of 9/11, failed to ensure that the military action that was taken was effective and surrendered in the war on drugs without having another plan. This just leaves the question of his own and his Vice President's potential financial misdeeds. -
The Vice President, Dick Cheney, is now facing a civil law suit for fraud from the NGO Judicial Watch. This alleges that the Vice President and others inflated the earnings of Halliburton, a company he ran, in order to raise the share price. The Vice President has had a much lower public profile of late: he is said to have spent much of the last six months hunkered down with his lawyers preparing a defence. The President himself has yet to give satisfactory answers about his sale of shares in an oil company for a large profit just ahead of bad news which would have slashed their value.
You may recall that President Clinton had to face a government investigation from an independent prosecutor for what became known as the Whitewater affair. War fever has so far protected the present leadership from such scrutiny...
War plans under fire - Dissent is coming from all quarters - even in Bush's own church. - As the United States edges towards a possible war against Iraq, a sudden torrent of concern has begun to flow - a revolt by the intelligentsia spreading beyond the expected opposition political circles and penetrating the heart of the media and foreign policy establishment. - From New York to the plains of Kansas, local and provincial papers, glossy magazines, serious periodicals and heavyweight national dailies have carried a range of articles and essays that challenge not only the proposed war, but the notion and conduct of unilateral American power in the world. -
But the most dramatic intervention comes from President George Bush's own United Methodist church which launched a scathing attack on his plans for war. - Jim Winkler, responsible for the application of the church's teachings to social policy, said war against Iraq was 'without any justification according to the teachings of Christ'. After careful study of Christian doctrinal writings on Just War, Winkler said he was 'told flatly' by the church's scholars, 'that they simply did not apply to this situation'. -
The uprising of the intelligentsia has burst its banks. The essayist Susan Sontag sounded the first alarm across the opinion page of the New York Times on the poignant date of 10 September (the article was intended for the eleventh, but was shifted to make way for one signed by the President). -

Internet Child porn sweep nets police officers, care workers and teachers. - The discovery came after US authorities passed on more than 7,000 names of UK subscribers to an American-based child porn website. When police examined a sample of the most dedicated users, they discovered that many worked with children. Investigators knew paedophiles targeted jobs which brought them into contact with children, but were shocked by how many British suspects had been undetected by the usual checks. The discovery that many were working in jobs of the highest sensitivity will send shock waves through the child protection world and lead to calls for even more stringent safeguards. Comment: Well, HellOOOO! Get a clue folks! Just like the psychopaths are attracted to jobs like the Presidency, and so forth...
Big red fireball awes Winnipeg driver, spectacle likely comet chunk or debris. Stanley Sladek said he could not believe his eyes when a big red fireball moved across the night sky as he was driving down a city street with his girlfriend early Saturday morning. "It would be hard to believe if someone was telling me this, but that's what we saw," he said. Sladek described the fireball as dark pink on the outside and a lighter colour toward the centre. "The people that were beside us, they honked their horn just for a sec to get our attention, and they were doing hand gestures." The fireball appeared to be travelling toward the southeast before it dropped an egg-shaped white light, broke in two and faded away shortly after 1 a.m., Sladek said. "An airplane would not move that fast." Astronomer and UFO expert Chris Rutkowski said the fireball was probably a chunk of comet or satellite debris burning up as it entered the Earth's atmosphere. Comment: The only problem is, this is happening more and more frequently ALL around the BBM. Whazzup?
A British Minister will lead a major sales drive by UK weapons and military technology firms at an exhibition attended by high-ranking Iraqi military officials this week. The news has sparked outrage among arms control campaigners and groups opposed to military action against Iraq. 'It is absurd that we are gearing up to fight a war against these people and simultaneously rubbing shoulders with them at an arms bazaar,' said Martin Hogbin of the Campaign Against Arms Trade.
Second UK quake hits Manchester - A second earthquake has hit the Greater Manchester area just four hours after the first shock on Monday. Greater Manchester has been hit by a series of earthquakes and after shocks. The first earthquake, measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale, shook the area at 0845 BST on Monday. Four hours later it was followed by an earthquake 11 times more powerful which shook buildings across the city. There were then powerful aftershocks. (So this is the third one since the Autumn Equinox. Do ya suppose that Mother Nature is trying to get Tony Blair's attention? Ha ha!)
The prognosticators are at war over whether a full moon on Monday will produce California's next big earthquake. Among the signs that it will: the San Francisco Giants are in another all-California World Series. Among the signs that it won't: not enough cats have run away. Thirteen years after a 6.9 magnitude temblor shook San Francisco, causing much damage and the postponement of the third game of the 1989 World Series -- the last to feature two California teams -- some earthquake predictors say conditions are ripe for another Fall Classic shaker. In "Predicting the Next Great Quake," written in 1996, author David Nabhan published an earthquake almanac for Southern California that pinpointed Monday as a likely earthquake day because of a lining up of the moon, sun and Earth, known as "syzygy". Comment: Well, as we see, so far it hasn't produced the "big one" in CA, but UK got a swizzle!
France has alerted Interpol about a French army deserter who is known as a marksman and is missing in North America. A Defense Ministry spokesman said there was speculation of a link to the investigation into the Washington-area sniper.
Girls exposed to higher levels of PCBs in the womb. were more likely to engage in masculine play, while similarly exposed boys were more likely to enjoy feminine play. Dioxins produced more feminine play in boys and girls. - The most disturbing aspect of the study is that the mothers were exposed to routine amounts of the chemicals – probably from eating normal food, experts believe. Previous studies have found that the chemicals damage the immune systems, neurological development and intelligence of children. Nearly one and a half million tons of PCBs have been spread around the world in materials such as paint and plastic. They have been banned in industrialised countries but persist in the environment and in body fat. Dioxins and PCBs both contaminate food at low levels.

During her interview with King, however, Tucker did imply that Bush was succumbing to election-year pressure from pro-death penalty voters. Apparently Bush never forgot it. (I'm not defending Karla Faye here. For all I know, she was a psychopath who pretended to reform to avoid the death penalty. The point is George Bush's stunning lack of compassion.)
Seems that lack of respect for other people and the rules is a common trait of the Bush family. One of the first things that Jeb Bush's wife, Columba, did after he was elected governor of Florida, was to attempt to perpetrate fraud on the American people by failing to declare $19,000 worth of clothes and jewelry she purchased on a Paris shopping spree. Speaking at a luncheon for the Central Florida Make-A-Wish-Foundation, Mrs. Bush apologized for what she called "an awful mistake." Mrs. Bush said she now realizes the responsibility that comes with being married to Gov. Jeb Bush. "I am by nature a very private person, some might even call me shy," she said. "I did not ask to join a famous family, simply to marry a man that I loved. But with that decision came a responsibility beyond anything that I could imagine and my recent actions made that painfully apparent." In other words, before she became aware of the fact of how closely her actions might be scrutinized, it was perfectly okay to do whatever she wished. And now she wishes she wasn't under such scrutiny so she could continue to get away with fraud. One has to wonder how many other shopping sprees she went on and did not declare while she was a "private" person! But then, maybe she was only getting back at Jeb? See the following:

Jeb Bush and Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris," according to those tabloids. "News of the tabloid story - said to be backed up by three witnesses, all of whom took polygraphs - has the Bush transition team and Florida governor's office bracing. A source at the Bush transition team says that Jeb Bush was soon going to name Harris his chief of staff. The position of secretary of state has been eliminated under changes made before the recount crisis hit. Dubya's wife, Laura, really can't be criticized because she killed a 17 year old boy in a car crash. However, one of the interesting things about it is that her first reported comment about it seems to be that it is "sad" that this information was uncovered.
"The daughter of a home builder and a homemaker who kept her husband's books, Laura Welch decided by second grade to become a teacher. Life in Midland was both limited and enriched by oil. Children rode their bikes down hot streets and went to the drive-in in their PJs. When the first lady was in high school, friends recall, social life consisted of dancing to the Drifters in the basement – she loved to dance – and sneaking cigarettes on joy rides. One night in November 1963, a ride went wrong. Laura, who had just turned 17, didn't see a stop sign and hit a car driven by Mike Douglas, a track star who ran with her crowd. He died at the scene. She was not charged. "That was a very hard time," says Regan Gammon, her friend since they were Brownies. "He was wonderful. It changed everyone in some way. I know I was so sad I might not have been able to see how sad Laura was. He was a very close friend of Laura's." In the past, the first lady has said she thinks it is "sad" this piece of her background has been unearthed. Now, however, she discusses it evenly but with that resolute self-possession. "It makes me have more of a perspective on life," she says of what she calls "a tragic accident. And maybe I would already have had that perspective anyway. Nevertheless, the Bush wives seem to be singular non-entities, and most definitely NOT role models for American women to look up to and admire. But that is typical of the wife of the psychopath. Most often, these are women who rigidly adhere to the traditional role of the female with a strong sense of duty to be a "good wife." She will believe that if she tries harder or simply waits it out, her husband will reform. When he ignores her, abuses her, cheats on her, or uses her, she can simply just decide to "try harder, put more energy into the relationship, and take better care of him." She believes that if she does this, eventually he will notice and will see how valuable she is, and then he will fall on his knees in gratitude and treat her like a queen.
The Bush children might also be considered embarassments if it weren't for the fact that they are only living up to the family standards: booze and drugs.
"The Bushes were part of a five-person group sitting at a table in the [Chuy's] restaurant Tuesday night when other patrons, a waitress and a bartender recognized Jenna Bush, who will be a sophomore at the University of Texas. Mia Lawrence, the restaurant's manager, said she asked to see Jenna Bush's driver's license. The picture on the license, however, looked "slightly off," Lawrence said, and had another person's name on it. "It was a valid Texas driver's license; it just wasn't hers," Lawrence said. Other people at the table with Jenna Bush had what appeared to be valid identification, including her sister. Barbara Bush, whom the restaurant staff didn't recognize, was served a margarita and a tequila shot, Lawrence said.
"Lawrence said she called 911 and reported that Jenna Bush was trying to buy alcohol with someone else's identification. Lawrence said one of the officers who responded, Sgt. Rodney Keene, asked her what she wanted to do about the situation. "He suggested that I turn the other cheek," she said. "I said I felt the police should do what they normally do." Police said Keene was not available for comment. Police spokeswoman Sally Muir said, "I never heard that." Bartenders and managers typically deal with fake identifications by confiscating them or refusing service, not by calling 911, [Assistant Police Chief Jimmy] Chapman said. Whether Chuy's routinely calls 911 to report minors who are attempting to buy alcohol couldn't be determined Thursday. The restaurant was referring questions to a spokesman who could not be reached. The group was getting ready to leave the restaurant when police arrived, [Assistant Police Chief Jimmy] Chapman said. Chapman said there was too much commotion at the restaurant Tuesday night to issue the tickets. "It got kind of convoluted," he said. Instead, police sent the girls on their way with Secret Service agents and continued to interview witnesses....The Bushes signed the [police citations] at their lawyer's office Thursday. Both charges are Class C misdemeanors under the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code and carry a fine of up to $500, attendance at an alcohol awareness course, community service and 30-day driver's license suspension. "They were very cooperative," Assistant Police Chief Jimmy Chapman said." --Austin American-Statesman, 6/1/01
And then, of course, there is the now well-known cocaine problem of Jeb's daughter Noelle, who has been jailed twice this year. It seems that the Bushes tried to avoid this one, but with so much scrutiny at present - as there was on Columba's shopping spree - and so many people noticing that they seem to think they are above the law, Noelle seems to have been abandoned to her fate. Considering the genetic implications of psychopathy, it is altogether likely that the Bush kids will go on to greater heights of embarrassing behavior, so watch for it.
Bush himself, as Maureen Dowd points out in her lampoon piece, operates at about the intellectual level of a 10 year old. However, there is something far more troubling about Bush's use of language. Have a look at some of his most revealing comments:

Now, what is so troubling about these "mixed up" remarks? Those of you who have read the segments of the Adventures Series about psychopathy, are already aware that this "thinking discrepancy" is proposed as one of the observable symptoms of congenital psychopathy.
Hare writes:
What makes psychopaths different from all others is the remarkable ease with which they lie, the pervasiveness of their deception, and the callousness with which they carry it out.
But there is something else about the speech of psychopaths that is equally puzzling: their frequent use of contradictory and logically inconsistent statements that usually escape detection. Recent research on the language of psychopaths provides us with some important clues to this puzzle, as well as to the uncanny ability psychopaths have to move words - and people- around so easily. […]
Here are some examples:
When asked if he had ever committed a violent offense, a man serving time for theft answered, "No, but I once had to kill someone."
A woman with a staggering record of fraud, deceit, lies, and broken promises concluded a letter to the parole board with, "I've let a lot of people down… One is only as good as her reputation and name. My word is as good as gold."
A man serving a term for armed robbery replied to the testimony of an eyewitness, "He's lying. I wasn't there. I should have blown his fucking head off."
From an interview with serial killer Elmer Wayne Henley:
Interviewer: "You make it out that you're the victim of a serial killer, but if you look at the record you're a serial killer."
Henley: "I'm not."
I: "You're not a serial killer?"
H: "I'm not a serial killer."
I: You're saying you're not a serial killer now, but you've serially killed."
H: "Well, yeah, that's semantics."And so on. The point that the researchers noted was that psychopaths seem to have trouble monitoring their own speech. What is more, they often put things together in strange ways, such as this series of remarks from serial killer Clifford Olson: "And then I had annual sex with her." "Once a year?" "No. Annual. From behind." "Oh. But she was dead!" "No, no. She was just unconscientious." About his many experiences, Olson said, "I've got enough antidotes to fill five or six books - enough for a trilogy." He was determined not to be an "escape goat" no matter what the "migrating facts." [Hare]
Sounds like Dubya, eh? And that's the scary part. Read the following interview with this issue in mind:
Q Gore wants more stringent gun control laws. What's your answer to him, governor?
A Bush "Guns don't kill people; guns are designed and manufactured for the purpose of enabling people to use the guns to kill people."
Q Governor Bush, what's your opinion of negative advertising?
A Bush ""If you ask me, these cheap, mudslinging ads drag the political process down to a level so juvenile and debased, I can actually understand it. Ha-ha."
Q , what should be done about the problems in Chechnya?
A Bush "The U.S. should waste no time in condemning General Mashimkov's brutal occupation of the city of Plovsk in the Chechen province of Azgakasban. Okay, I made that up."
Q Mr. Bush, with prescription-drug prices higher in the United States than elsewhere, what would you do as President to correct this disparity?
A Bush "I think what's getting lost in this whole debate is this: Taking drugs is wrong."
Q a judge in Texas recently banned prayer before football games. What's your position on this?
A Bush "I think it's fine, as long as it's Christian prayers. Anything else is un-American."
Q Governor, in Texas there are full-time wage earners who are homeless. How will your compassionate conservative programs help them?
A Bush "Thank God we've finally stopped looking at the causes of this terrible social problem and started focusing on the symptoms."
Q And about the little Cuban kid? What would you do?
A Bush ""We can't let this child come under the sway of an isolationist, tyrannical state led by a self-obsessed sociopath. By all means, send him back to Cuba."
I'm just shaking my head in amazement that this man can even dress himself. And he's the head of state of the most powerful nation on Earth, for God's sake! Oy vey!
However, there is the problem of Bush's "unnatural power of persuasion." The polls indicate that there are people being persuaded by what he says - which is another symptom of the psychopath - even though they speak in a contradictory way, people are persuaded by what they say to such an extent that they will defend them against all attacks, even if the psychopath is caught doing something red-handed! The psychopath is able to persuade large groups of people to believe in them with no visible and logical reasons for doing so.
Manipulation is the key to the psychopath's conquests. Initially, the psychopath will feign false emotions to create empathy, and many of them study the tricks that can be employed by the empathy technique. Psychopaths are often able to incite pity from people because they seem like "lost souls" as Guggenbuhl-Craig writes. So the pity factor is one reason why victims often fall for these "poor" people.
Hare cites a famous case where a psychopath was "Man of the Year" and president of the Chamber of Commerce in his small town. (Remember that John Wayne Gacy was running for Jaycee President at the very time of his first murder conviction!) The man in question had claimed to have a Ph.D. from Berkeley. He ran for a position on the school board which he then planned to parlay into a position on the county commission which paid more.
At some point, a local reporter suddenly had the idea to check up on the guy - to see if his credentials were real. What the reporter found out was that the only thing that was true about this up and coming politician's "faked bio" was the place and date of birth. Everything else was fictitious. Not only was the man a complete impostor, he had a long history of antisocial behavior, fraud, impersonation, and imprisonment. His only contact with a university was a series of extension courses by mail that he took while in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. What is even more amazing is the fact that before he was a con-man, he was a "con-boy." For two decades he had dodged his way across America one step ahead of those he had hoodwinked. Along the way he had married three women and had four children, and he didn't even know what had happened to them. And now, he was on a roll! But darn that pesky reporter!
When he was exposed, he was completely unconcerned. "These trusting people will stand behind me. A good liar is a good judge of people," he said. Amazingly, he was right. Far from being outraged at the fact that they had all been completely deceived and lied to from top to bottom, the local community he had conned so completely to accrue benefits and honors to himself that he had not earned, rushed to his support!
I kid you not! And it wasn't just "token support." The local Republican party chairman wrote about him: "I assess his genuineness, integrity, and devotion to duty to rank right alongside of President Abraham Lincoln." As Hare dryly notes, this dimwit was easily swayed by words, and was blind to deeds.
Most people are able to combine ideas that have consistent thought themes, but psychopaths have great difficulty doing this. Again, this suggests a genetic restriction to what we have called the Juvenile Dictionary. Not only are they using extremely restricted definitions, they cannot, by virtue of the way their brains work, do otherwise. Virtually all of the research on psychopaths reveals an inner world that is banal, sophomoric, and devoid of the color and detail that generally exists in the inner world of normal people. This goes a long way to explain the inconsistencies and contradictions in their speech.
The situation is analogous to a movie in which one scene is shot under cloudy conditions and the next scene - which supposedly takes place a few minutes later - is shot in brilliant sunshine. […] Some moviegoers - the victims of psychopaths - might not notice the discrepancy, particularly if they are engrossed in the action.
Psychopaths are notorious for not answering the questions asked them. They will answer something else, or in such a way that the direct question is never addressed. They also phrase things so that some parts of their narratives are difficult to understand. This is not careless speech, of which everyone is guilty at times, but an ongoing indication of the underlying condition in which the organization of mental activity suggests something is wrong. It's not what they say, but how they say it that gives insight into their true nature.
But this raises, again, the question: if their speech is so odd, how come smart people get taken in by them? Why do we fail to pick up the inconsistencies?
Part of the answer is that the oddities are subtle so that our general listening mode will not normally pick them up. But my own experience is that some of the "skipped" or oddly arranged words, or misused words are automatically reinterpreted by OUR brains in the same way we automatically "fill in the blank" space on a neon sign when one of the letters has gone out. We can be driving down the road at night, and ahead we see M_tel, and we mentally put the "o" in place and read "Motel." Something like this happens between the psychopath and the victim. We fill in the "missing humanness" by filling in the blanks with our own assumptions, based on what WE think and feel and mean. And, in this way, because there are these "blank" spots, we fill them in with what is inside us, and thus we are easily convinced that the psychopath is a great guy - because he is just like us! We have been conditioned to operate on trust, and we always try to give the "benefit of the doubt." So, there are blanks, we "give the benefit of the doubt," and we are thereby hoisted on our own petard.
According to one individual who suffered at the hands of a psychopath:
"The World has only one problem, Psychopaths. There are two basic types of Psychopaths, Social and Anti-Social. The essential feature of Psychopaths is a Pervasive, Obssesive- Compulsive desire to force their delusions on others.
But then, there are psychopaths, and their close kin, and far more successful Organic Portals... In either case, their "signature" is Wishful Thinking.
North Korea's number two, Kim Yong Nam, branded by Washington as part of an "axis of evil" along with Iraq and Iran, was ready for dialogue with the United States if the country "does not treat us as an enemy." "We consider the recent situation seriously," pool reports quoted Kim as telling the chief South Korean delegate, Jeong Se-hyun. "If the United States is willing to withdraw its hostile policy toward the North, the North also is ready to resolve security concerns through dialogue." - Under a 1994 agreement, the United States has shipped fuel to the North in exchange for a promise to freeze its nuclear weapons program. But U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Sunday that the North Koreans had broken their end of the bargain, and that Washington will muster "maximum pressure" to persuade the North to give up such a program. - For its part, North Korea says the United States is to blame for delays in the 1994 deal, whose fate it said was at a "critical juncture." "Eight years after the adoption of the Agreed Framework, the United States is still at the starting line," the broadcast said. "The provision of the light-water nuclear reactor is greatly delayed and (the agreement) has arrived at a critical juncture of whether to scrap it."
Sniper news: Police picked up two men for questioning Monday but had not made any arrests, a federal law enforcement source said. The first man was in a white minivan -- witnesses described it as a Plymouth Voyager -- that had pulled up to a pay phone at an Exxon gas station in Henrico County in east-central Virginia. The station was one of several locations police had under surveillance, sources said. (Gallery) The second man was picked up "in the vicinity," a source said.
A gunman has killed two people and wounded five others on a university campus in Melbourne, before being captured by police.
Eight people were killed when a suicide bomber exploded a car next to a bus packed with passengers just before the afternoon's rush hour near the city of Hadera in northern Israel. About 45 people were wounded, six or seven of them seriously, said Avi Zohr, director general of the Israeli Red Cross. - Soon after the blast, the Islamic Jihad organization claimed responsibility for the attack, which came soon after a curfew was lifted in the nearby town of Jenin on the West Bank and soon after Israeli tanks had fired into Gaza. - In Jericho, Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erakat condemned the attack. "We condemn on behalf of the Palestinian Authority this attack as much as we condemn the killing of civilians, whether they are Israelis or Palestinians. And we reiterate that the only way to break this vicious cycle of violence is to restart a meaningful peace process." - "We are getting mixed messages from the Palestinian Authority and their leader," said Ra'anan Gissin, an adviser to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. "On one hand, [they are] calling publicly for peace, but on the other hand continuing to support ... those suicide bombers who conducted the attack today." Comment: How about this scenario? The "suicide bombings" are "stage managed" to point the finger at the Palestinians. Obviously, they have nothing to gain by such tactics, and would have to be stupid not to realize it. In the end, the question: "Who benefits?" has to be asked, and the only answer is: Israel.
An Israeli bank was robbed at gunpoint by its own security guard, who made off with 100,000 shekels ($21,000), police said. A police spokesman said he expected police to catch the guard, who fled on foot, soon because "we know everything about him."
The Supreme Court refused Monday to review police search cases that posed an important question for drivers: can officers freely search your car without getting a warrant if you don't show them identification or registration papers? Justices had been asked to overturn a ruling that expanded police powers and allowed the searches. They declined, without comment. - One of the last major car search cases settled by the Supreme Court restricted police searches. The court ruled in 1998 that lawmen cannot search people and their cars after ticketing them for routine traffic violations. Searches without suspicion of other wrongdoing are unreasonable and unconstitutional, the court held. - Under the latest decision, officers who stop someone for a traffic violation can look pretty much anywhere in a car -- possibly even the trunk. - Since September 11, the Supreme Court has sided with law enforcement in search and seizure cases involving a traffic stop, the search of a home and searches of passengers on buses and trains. In the traffic stop case, the court clarified police powers to stop vehicles if an officer has reason to suspect a crime.

A woman in Florida has less than three months to live as she wastes away from deadly mad cow disease -- the first known human case of the disease in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.- In the past year, Charlene's appearance has changed from that of a healthy, vibrant winner of a college scholarship to a patient suffering from uncontrollable biting and hitting episodes and, later, to a moaning, bedridden invalid whose brain has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer speak or control her functions. -
Charlene's family members -- who moved to the United States from England -- are talking to the news media because they are angry at the government of the United Kingdom, which they blame for Charlene's horrible condition. - Doctors are sure Charlene contracted the human version of mad cow disease --whose scientific name is Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease -- in the United Kingdom, where she lived until age 13. There have been 128 other human cases of mad cow disease in the United Kingdom. -
Charlene's family is accusing the British government of knowing about the presence of the disease in the 1980s, but covering it up. - The British government did not respond to numerous requests from CNN for an interview. A report commissioned by Parliament in 1996 said the government had not lied, but had simply failed to recognize the threat and was slow to warn the public that the disease could spread from cows to humans. -
In Charlene's case, the development of the disease was first noticed about a year ago, when she began to forget things and started losing her temper, her sister Lisa said. "She came to me a couple of times and said, 'You know Lisa, I think something is wrong with me,'" Lisa said. Charlene saw a doctor for the symptoms, who did not diagnose her with mad cow and instead prescribed an anti-depressant. -
Later, the symptoms worsened, her father said. "Her hand began to shake pretty rapidly," he said. "We decided, well this can't be depression. Depression doesn't make your hand shake. It doesn't make you walk and stumble." Charlene's family traveled to doctors in London before they learned the true nature of her condition. She was diagnosed with variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease.
She and her family returned home to Florida when, last May, on her 23rd birthday, she was unable to walk on her own. Then, Charlene started to go mad. There were episodes when Charlene bit people and hit them. She became unable to control herself. Her family brought in a priest in hopes that he could help. The disease continued its steady takeover of Charlene's body. By summer she could barely hug her brother and now, she can no longer hug him at all. She also has lost the ability to perform the simple task of swallowing. -
As he watches Charlene fade away, her family members worry that they, too, may have eaten tainted meat years ago and will develop the disease. Scientists don't yet know whether the disease is transmitted in a single serving, or cumulatively, over time.
The U.S. Coast Guard called off its search Saturday for four U.S. Navy officers missing since their two fighter jets collided during a combat exercise Friday. The search ended at 6:30 p.m. because of sea and weather conditions, and because about 33 hours had passed since the pilots were reported missing, according to Coast Guard spokesman Matt Juillerat. - The two F/A-18F jets that took off from Lemoore collided during a training exercise with six other fighter jets, said Lemoore spokesman Dennis McGrath. The two Super Hornets were not carrying any weapons. The officers were all experienced aviators who had flown F-14 Tomcats over Afghanistan, said McGrath. Their families have been notified. Comment: Again we mention the fact that Dolan has revealed in his book that it is standard for the US military to scramble jets after UFOs, and when they are shot down, to report it as a "training mission accident."
The Perlesvaux Manuscript - The majority of the human race find it difficult to give up long held ideas and tend to resist changes. The unwillingness to accept discoveries and better interpretations is nowhere more entrenched than amongst those who are called "academics" and who are university and teaching employees. In the fields of History and archaeology these employees are virtually totally dependant upon Books. Their arsenal and ammunition consists wholly of "the Books" of their often long dead predecessors. So if someone comes along and demonstrates the "the Books" are wrong, and that the long dead "great men" of the History and archaeological pantheons were misguided and often venal, serving the ends of religious and political politics, then the "academics" are stripped bare. Their arsenal of clubs, shields, swords, and spears, are useless against the heavy artillery and atomic bombs of hard solid research, competent analysis, and perhaps superior intelligence and abilities. To illustrate this we chose to show how ancient evidence is abused, and to do this we select the Perlesvaux Manuscripts. The Perlesvaux Manuscripts are generally accepted as being of around 1000 years old. They tell of a group of Breton Pilgrims making the journey to visit the Grave of King Arthur in Britain, who in this instance emerges as King Arthur II son of Meurig. The account set out in the Perlesvaux texts contains quite specific topographical evidence, and anyone seriously attempting to trace this journey would hopefully make use of these topographical details.
In the early 1980s when Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett had already published three books, and were arousing new interest in the politically log-jammed history of ancient Britain, one London Publisher who they approached with a Manuscript already prepared, decided instead to give a contract to an Oxford University denizen to write a book which was not even researched, to try to turn the clock back towards the inane fantasies of the Glastonbury and Cadbury forgeries and the imaginative nonsenses of Tintagel. So Elizabeth Jenkins came out with "The Mystery of King Arthur" when Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett were already demonstrating that there was no mystery.
Anyone wishing to illustrate the "academic method" in all its pathetic poverty can do this easily by examining this ridiculous tome. [by Elizabeth Jenkins] Now the Elizabeth Jenkins treatment of this detailed information, which any ten year old should be able to unravel, is extraordinary. In typical academic fashion the author decides that the travellers are going to visit Glastonbury in Somerset, and makes this assumption BEFORE analysing the evidence. [...]
In short the entire evidence contained in the Perlesvaux Manuscript is either abandoned or mangled and twisted out of all recognition, and it is difficult to understand why the author mentioned the Perlesvaux Manuscripts at all, as she disputes everything they state. It never ever seems to occur to this author and the publishers of this garbage that it is not permissable to simply ignore the majority of a mass of evidence and then to twist and bend the remaining pieces out of all recognition. Either it did not ever occur to this author that the travellers went to somewhere else and they did not go to Glastonbury in Somerset, or otherwise there is a plain attempt to divert attention by whatever means, from the recently published works of Wilson and Blackett. All that we are doing is demonstrating that the university employees are the total "amateurs" and that it is the consistently Professional approach of Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett which is again and again proving to be successful. From this one source of evidence alone,- and there is a huge amount more - it is possible to easily locate the grave of King Arthur II who died c 579. This frightens London government, the church, and the bigoted "academics". There is a common saying which is used whenever a matter is regarded as totally irrelevant and useless, it is "that is purely academic".
The ancient writers of the Perlesvaux Manuscript were not incorrect and confused as the bewildered Elizabeth Jenkins, and a host of other university employees have all alleged. The confusion lies in the one track blinkered minds of "academics" and their enormous Oxford-Cambridge-London, etc, egos. A child who has the sanity to see that the much abused ancient records are in fact correct, could carry out this type of proving investigation. What is worrying, even frightening, is that these ridiculous meanderings and speculations of Elizabeth Jenkins and her like are actually revered and applauded.
