#2: I looked at some videos which are hard to find. Why? Because these "slurpee waves" are mostly really small (about 1-1.5 feet) but beautiful to photograph at the right time.
#3. There are surfers out at some of these breaks, surfing OK 3-4 feet waves, but they've got to have serious (5 MM plus layering) wetsuits on. They all have booties, gloves and what used to be called 'hoodies' (til' Trayvon Martin) and are now called just 'hoods'. The water they surf in/on is liquid. These are close to shore, which they have to paddle through/over to get to the outside where the waves are.
(Re how cold it is, realize that Salt water freezes at colder temperatures - 28.4F - than fresh water - 32F.) Tho I spent years in California, the coldest day I ever surfed was in New Smyrna Beach, Fl. some February long ago. The water was 47-48F, the air temperature was about 38F, and the winds were 20-30 MPH. It was smoking! I managed to stay out almost two hours, but it was hard, and required constant motion.) Nowhere near as cold as the guys surfing outside of these pretty little waves.

Sea was not frozen though, that's a different matter.
I've seen people surfing breaks in Norway in similar to the above. Mental!
