Tucker Carlson and Casey Putsch were talking about where cars are headed, and it got pretty unsettling.
We already have “fly-by-wire” vehicles where computers increasingly control everything. Then there’s the growing attack on the right to repair your own property. Farmers, for example, have fought John Deere for years because modern tractors are locked down with software — you often can’t fix them yourself and have to go through authorized dealers.
Putsch points out that if manufacturers make it impossible to service your own stuff, it becomes another form of control. Add in the push toward full self-driving cars, and the question becomes: will you even truly own your car anymore, or will it just take you where “the system” decides is most efficient?
Tucker sums it up as an attack on human autonomy.
It makes you wonder how much independence we’re quietly trading away in the name of safety, efficiency, and convenience.
Where do you draw the line between useful technology and losing real control over the things you own?
