Companies and individuals who buy U.S. government debt will be considered "legitimate targets" by Iran

An Iranian official told CNN that Iran considers companies that buy U.S. government debt and invest in Treasury bonds as partners in the war against itself because it sees them as financiers of this war.

"Tehran considers these companies and their managers in the region as legitimate targets. These individuals are warned to declare their capital withdrawal as soon as possible."

U.S. government debt securities are held by thousands of investors worldwide, including banks, pension funds, corporations, mutual funds, and foreign governments.

Several major American companies and banks are based in the Middle East.
