The tanks are intended not as a symbol of the nation’s might but of Trump’s. Putting them on the people’s National Mall is a show of force, but not against a foreign power. As in any would-be authoritarian regime, it’s also corrupt. They’re a prop for RNC donors with VIP tickets.
