The House just passed Section 219
1/Congress just passed Section 219 of the NDAA — permanently merging US defense tech & supply chains with Israel. Before you accept "it's just cooperation with an ally," look at what's actually in it. 🧵
2/ Intelligence sharingSection 219 mandates "data fusion" — combining US and Israeli intelligence feeds into shared targeting/analysis systems. It's reinforced by a companion intel-sharing mandate (Sec. 622).
The problem: Mossad isn't bound by the 4th Amendment. NSA/FBI need warrants to collect on US persons. Israeli intelligence services face no such restriction. Fusing data streams with a partner who can legally collect what our own agencies can't is a backdoor around domestic surveillance limits — even if unintentional.
3/ Untrusted supply chainThe DIA elevated Israel's counterintelligence threat designation to "CRITICAL" — its highest category — while this bill was moving through Congress. That's not an activist talking point, that's a US intelligence agency's own current assessment.
Historical precedent for concern: the Pollard espionage case (US Navy analyst convicted of passing classified intel to Israel, 1980s).
4/ Hardware/backdoor riskIn 2024, explosive devices were embedded in pagers/radios before they reached end users in an operation widely attributed to Israeli intelligence — proof that supply-chain-level compromise of hardware is a demonstrated capability, not hypothetical.
Section 219, as written, creates NO new hardware assurance or counterintelligence vetting regime specific to this integration. It relies on existing general DoD security processes — not a heightened standard matching a "critical" threat designation.
5/Rep. Massie: "This goes well beyond our pre-existing military relationships... typically limited to information sharing, joint exercises, or bilateral development of specific weapons contracts."
Five Eyes and NATO partnerships took decades to build matching vetting protocols. Section 219 fast-tracks integration without importing that same infrastructure.
6/This isn't about opposing an ally. It's about whether Congress just wired US weapons systems and intelligence data to a foreign supply chain — under a "critical" counterintelligence threat rating — with weaker checks than we require for Five Eyes partners.
Ask your rep why Massie's amendment to strip Section 219 never got a floor vote.
