SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: The Empathy Trap - Understanding how predators manipulate people's strengths and weaknesses

Sott Talk Radio logo
Earlier this year on SOTT Talk Radio we spoke with Tim McGregor, co-author with Dr Jane McGregor of The Empathy Trap: Understanding Antisocial Personalities. Tim is a health practitioner with more than 20 years' experience in addiction and sociopathy and Jane is an author and lecturer at the Institute of Mental Health, University of Nottingham, UK.

The McGregors prefer the term 'sociopath' over 'psychopath', although their recently published book discusses essentially the same condition, explaining how predators operate, why they're often difficult to spot, and the importance of recognising pathological behaviour for what it is. The Empathy Trap also challenges antisocial behaviour in everyday life and calls for more empathy among normal people, something that can help victims cope with the aftermath of destructive relationships by re-establishing healthy boundaries.

SOTT Focus: Pyramids and the coming economic collapse

Image
Many have used a pyramid to describe the power structure that the bulk of humanity is subject to - in even the smallest details of our lives. I would like to use it here to address the impending economic collapse, with an eye to explaining what might be going on behind the curtain - what is being hidden and why.

The vertical axis of the pyramid is often described as power, wealth, knowledge, etc. The shape of the pyramid describes the population distribution as measured by the vertical axis. The great bulk of humanity (us) inhabits the lower levels near the base, and the Controllers/Powers That Be/Elites inhabit the lofty levels near the peak.

Control of events at the macro level is administered from the top down by inducing divisions through particular areas in the pyramid. These divisions are made through the use of lies that are designed to achieve particular ends such as war, population reduction, strengthened control, wealth redistribution, etc, right down to plain misery and suffering of the masses.

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: Assassinated Heroes

JFK john f kennedy
The pages of human history are not only long, they are largely redacted and distorted in a way that not only bolsters the official history of the righteous rule of the 'elite', but simultaneously covers up their long-term corruption and criminality. Those same pages are also replete with, and at times defined by, iconic and notable figures who rose to positions of either power or notoriety (or both) by either chance or design.

Some historical figures are lauded as heroes or even saviors, while others are remembered only as a warning of what can happen when human potential goes horribly awry. Yet, more often than not, when the true details of their lives are subjected to close and objective scrutiny, even the lauded heroes of history fall from grace to one degree or another.

There are however, a vanishingly small group of historical figures who, when scrutinized in the same way, provoke precisely the opposite effect; they are revealed to be true, and largely unsung, heroes. This details of their lives, and their deaths, tell a story of their ultimately unrealized potential to not only change human society for the better but to serve as role models for us all.

Image
Unfortunately, the lives of most of these individuals were dramatically cut short by an assassins bullet or some equally fatal plot hatched by the established authorities of the day who realised the very real threat posed to their rule by the unchecked emergence of a true champion of the people.

Michael Collins, JFK, RFK, MLK, Ghandi, Lumumba, Lennon, Moro, Sadat, Palme, Diana, Rafik Hariri, Benazir Bhutto, Anna Lindh, Yasser Arafat...this is a short-list of great or potentially great leaders who were assassinated in the 20th century.

Earlier this year on SOTT Talk Radio, we looked at the lives and deaths of these individuals and others who were 'taken out' simply because they had the power and intent to make our world a better place for all.

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: NSA's PRISM offers neither privacy nor security

Image
'NSA leaks' continue to pour out thick and fast courtesy of Ed Snowden and the Guardian newspaper. Are we really learning anything new? Do we really think The Guardian and Washington Post would publish stuff they weren't 'allowed' to publish? Who is Ed Snowden really and why do some whistleblowers become famous while others are bumped off quietly?

Earlier this year we discussed the 'NSA privacy scandal' on SOTT Talk Radio. Check it out:

SOTT Focus: Nelson Mandela, George H.W. Bush, and the crushing of hope in the early nineties

Image
© Barry Chin/ Boston GlobeThe crowd of people, estimated at 250,000, at the Hatch Shell sang the national anthem of the African National Congress, the leading antiapartheid group in South Africa.
In the summer of 1990, four months after being released from prison, Nelson Mandela went on a triumphant tour of the United States. I remember his visit to Boston where he spoke before a crowd of 250,000 gathered on the Esplanade. It was a festive atmosphere with lots of bands playing music from different parts of the world, families with children, ordinary people, and activists, young and old. The sense of hope was palpable. In South Africa, the people had won! There was even hope that Boston's troubled racial history of the 1970s and 1980s could be overcome. The mayor at the time, Ray Flynn, recalled the event:
"It was the first time that I recall standing and looking out at a massive audience and seeing white and black, young and old, people from the neighborhoods, people from the suburbs," Flynn said. "It was almost like a Celtics celebration, only this had a greater significance than even that."
Just a few months earlier, the Berlin Wall had fallen in November 1989. People were crossing boundaries and breaking bonds that had held them back. Not all the uprisings were successful, the Tiananmen Square uprising in China in June 1989 was brutally suppressed, but overall you could feel the sense of hope for a better world.

There was only one problem. In the United States, the Bush family was in power. If there was one thing the Bushes could not abide, it is ordinary people rising up against their oppressors. That sort of thing goes against their whole business model. So the sense of hope had to be crushed, and sure enough, just several weeks after Mandela's tour, the world was plunged into what felt like something from the 1930s when Iraq invaded Kuwait. There were news reports of forces massing on the border with Saudi Arabia. An old-style war between invading nation states? Could this really be happening?

SOTT Focus: Scientific junk! Study claims high fat diet contributes to breast cancer

pink ribbon soup
© unknownWhile nutrition-loaded animal fats have been deemed carcinogenic by the nutritional science mafia, soup complete with MSG, gluten, oxidized cholesterol, rancid vegetable oils and synthetic vitamins is "fighting for the cure".
In recent years, as the Paleo diet has gained more and more traction, with Sweden ditching it's primitive dietary recommendations in favour of dietary advice that reflects what truly makes humans thrive (high-fat, low-carb), the Diet Dictocrats have stepped up their game, trying desperately to keep the dietary lie alive. After all, we can't have people discovering the truth about diet - that animal fat is healthy, natural and nourishing for human beings - because, God Forbid that people's brains and bodies should function properly... that might lead to them beginning to actually think for themselves!

When a society is so steeped in corruption, so in-over-its-head in lies that serve only to fatten the pockets of the elite while the masses suffer, rather than representing an honest search for objective truth, 'science' becomes yet another tool for inflicting the dominant ideology on the ignorant plebes. The real problem, however, is that more often than not, the plebes believe it.

A new 'study' coming from the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program at Michigan State University, published in the current online issue of Breast Cancer Research is a case in point. As Science Daily reports:
"New findings show that eating a high-fat diet beginning at puberty speeds up the development of breast cancer and may actually increase the risk of cancer similar to a type often found in younger adult women. "

SOTT Focus: The invisible hand of the Cosmic Trickster: High strangeness and the paranormal nature of the UFO phenomenon

We seem to be surrounded by an almost invisible world that can manipulate us in any way. ~ John Keel

On Sunday, October 30th, 1938, millions of radio listeners in the USA were shocked to the core by a radio announcement about a Martian attack on Earth. They panicked, some ran out of their homes screaming, others packed up their cars and fled. Even though the ground-shaking news turned out to be nothing more than a portion of Orson Welles' adaptation of the well-known book, War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, many of the listeners believed what they heard on the radio was real.

In his infamous broadcast, Orson Welles set the scene by saying: "We know now that in the early years of the twentieth century this world was being watched closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own..."

While Welles' radio stunt was fiction, a careful analysis of the evidence suggests the actual reality surrounding UFOs and all things associated is much stranger than any fiction ever invented by a human mind.

This article builds on an excerpt from an upcoming book, to be published by Red Pill Press, which draws on the 'Electric Universe' concept, information theory, astronomy, paleogeology - and much more - to present an expanded cosmology linking so-called 'climate change' and 'Earth changes' with mankind's role in the greater cosmic environment.

Written by Pierre Lescaudron, editor and researcher for SOTT.net, in the following article he provides an explanation for the "weird" and "unexpected" behaviour of Comet ISON to date, particularly regarding its unexpected survival as it went around the Sun on November 28th, 2013.

Comets or Asteroids?
Image
© NarwhallComet, asteroid, meteor and meteorite classification - according to mainstream science.
As depicted in the above illustration, and routinely argued by mainstream science, comets are "chunks of ice and rock", a.k.a. "dirty snowballs". This belief, however, is incompatible with the actual data. For instance, in 2011 Comet Lovejoy plunged into the Sun's atmosphere and emerged on the other side after an hour-long journey through the sun's corona. Its size and brightness didn't seem to have diminished.1 Here are some (pretty typical) comments from observers of this event:
This morning, an armada of spacecraft witnessed something that many experts thought impossible. Comet Lovejoy flew through the hot atmosphere of the sun and emerged intact. "It's absolutely astounding," says Karl Battams of the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC. "I did not think the comet's icy core was big enough to survive plunging through the several million degree solar corona for close to an hour, but Comet Lovejoy is still with us." 2
But if the temperature of the Sun's corona is several million degrees3, and if Comet Lovejoy is no more than a chunk of ice estimated to be just a few hundred meters in diameter,4 how was it possible that it wasn't vaporized?

SOTT Focus: Volcanic eruptions, rising CO2, boiling oceans, and why man-made global warming is not even wrong

Image
The spectacular eruption of an undersea volcano off the coast of Tonga in the South Pacific in 2009
Perhaps in an effort to ward off yet another long cold winter, officially-sanctioned climate science has been pumping out hot air at exponentially-increasing rates of late. An IPCC report in September told us that global warming "paused" unexpectedly in 1998, and shows no sign of resuming. Actually, the work that went into that report found that warming had stopped altogether, but the wording was altered to describe it as a "pause". You'd think that a pseudo-acknowledgement like this from on-high would dampen the Global Warmists' enthusiasm, but you'd be wrong.

Their driven need to 'fit the facts around the policy' is illustrated by a couple of recent articles that caught our eye. Here USA Today reports on the findings of a study that claims:
"The middle depths of a part of the Pacific Ocean have warmed 15 times faster in the past 60 years than they did during the previous 10,000 years."
Then this BBC article cites "the world's leading experts on ocean acidification", who claim that:
"The world's oceans are becoming acidic at an unprecedented rate and may be souring more rapidly than at any time in the past 300 million years, [...] causing a 30% loss of species in some ocean ecosystems."
And, as you can probably guess, these experts are certain that it's all your fault.

By now you know the drill:

You produce too much CO2 ---> this contributes to the 'greenhouse effect' --> planet heats up --> ice caps melt --> sea levels rise, etc...

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: JFK remembered, ISON approaches, and electric weather

Image
The SOTT.net team's 'All and Everything' series returns to SOTT Talk Radio this week, when we'll be casting an eye on the latest scandals, the trends that matter, and the kind of information Big Brother prefers you never hear!

Following on from last week's show on the murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, we're going to discuss a couple of aspects to the dreadful event that open up intriguing new possibilities. Was the event in Dallas in November 1963 originally meant to be a staged assassination? Did other interested parties then hijack the initial plan by actually killing JFK? We'll look at the evidence for this, including the possibility of Israeli involvement.

With no less than five comets currently flaring brightly within observation range of northern hemisphere observers, 2013 is living up to its moniker as 'Year of the Comets'. As ISON approaches perihelion on November 28th, we'll be asking: is there a connection between the wild spaceweather and the crazy storms taking place around the world of late?
