SOTT Focus: Setting the Record Straight: Stuff You Should Know About Ukraine

Putin
On February 16, 2022, a full week before Putin sent combat troops into Ukraine, the Ukrainian Army began the heavy bombardment of the area (in east Ukraine) occupied by mainly ethnic Russians. Officials from the Observer Mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) were located in the vicinity at the time and kept a record of the shelling as it took place. What the OSCE discovered was that the bombardment dramatically intensified as the week went on until it reached a peak on February 19, when a total of 2,026 artillery strikes were recorded. Keep in mind, the Ukrainian Army was, in fact, shelling civilian areas along the Line of Contact that were occupied by other Ukrainians.

We want to emphasize that the officials from the OSCE were operating in their professional capacity gathering first-hand evidence of shelling in the area. What their data shows is that Ukrainian Forces were bombing and killing their own people. This has all been documented and has not been challenged.

So, the question we must all ask ourselves is this: Is the bombardment and slaughter of one's own people an 'act of war'?

A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Türkiye early Monday morning, followed by several powerful aftershocks that were felt all across the region. The jolts caused widespread destruction, knocking down multiple residential buildings, according to disturbing footage captured by survivors.

The most powerful jolt, measured at 7.8 by USGS and 7.4 by Turkish disaster management agency, happened around 4:17 am local time, and was centered some 33 kilometers northeast from Gaziantep, a major provincial capital with a population of over 2 million people.

There was no immediate estimate of total casualties, but according to Turkish media reports dozens are feared killed, as multiple buildings were damaged or completely destroyed in the province of Gaziantep and across the neighboring Diyarbakir, Osmaniye and Malatya, with their residents trapped under the rubble.

Comment: In addition, about 9 hours later: Turkey hit by second major earthquake of magnitude 7.5

From Earthquake Track:
Aftershocks:

5.6 magnitude, 17 km depth
Musabeyli, Kilis, Turkey

6.7 magnitude, 14 km depth
Kahramanmaraş, Kahramanmaraş, Turkey

5.6 magnitude, 10 km depth
Nurdağı, Gaziantep, Turkey

5.1 magnitude, 10 km depth
Hasanbeyli, Osmaniye, Turkey

4.8 magnitude, 10 km depth
Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş, Turkey

4.8 magnitude, 10 km depth
Nurdağı, Gaziantep, Turkey

5.2 magnitude, 11 km depth
Nurdağı, Gaziantep, Turkey

4.6 magnitude, 10 km depth
Denizciler, Hatay, Turkey

4.5 magnitude, 12 km depth
Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş, Turkey
This is looking like it'll be Turkey's worst earthquake since 1939, when around 35,000 people were killed.

With an estimated 3,500 buildings destroyed in cities across southern Turkey and northern Syria today - many of which were residential buildings in which people were sleeping - the death toll will probably go much higher.

While Turkey was arguably due another 'big one', what's odd about today's quakes is that they occurred on a much less active fault-line (the East Anatolian Fault, in the country's south). Turkey's 'big ones' usually occur in the northern, western and eastern sectors of the country.

Maybe something, maybe nothing... RT reports that when Putin called Erdogan earlier today to offer condolences and Russian S&R assistance, the two agreed to speak again later in the day. Given the geopolitical sensitivity of the very region that was struck today, further talks are no doubt needed.

Some of the footage from the region is jaw-dropping. Our thoughts and prayers go to the millions of people affected.

Chinese Communist spy balloon? Chinese Communist bioweapon sent from Wuhan to destroy the Free World™?

The whole world (i.e., the USA) was stunned this week as a Chinese high-altitude balloon dared traverse the USA before being shot down in a stunning and brave military move by an air-to-air missile fired from an F-22 fighter jet over US waters in the Atlantic.

Bullet dodged?

Er, no. As Joe and Niall explain in this NewsReal, such balloons (Chinese, research, 'spy' or otherwise) traverse the US and elsewhere on a regular basis. What's different this time is that 'someone' overruled the Pentagon's initial assessment that this balloon posed no threat to US national security to instead make a REALLY big deal out of it...

SOTT Focus: Mad American Science: Russian Military Continues Exposure of US Military Biolabs in Ukraine And Globally

Igor Kirillov

Comment: Russian military personnel have acquired over 20,000 documents detailing U.S. biological programs in Ukraine. The documents confirm that the Pentagon aimed at creating elements of a biological weapon, and testing it on the population of Ukraine.

What follows is a translated transcript of the full recent public statement made by Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov (Chief of the Russian Army's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops) on 30 January 2023.

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has repeatedly noted the signs of the implementation of 'dual-purpose programmes' by the USA and its allies outside their national territories, including within the operation of the biolaboratories funded by the Pentagon or its contractors.

The fact that the United States blocked the initiative to establish a monitoring mechanism of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) at the Ninth Review Conference once again confirms that Washington has something to hide, while the transparency of the biological research contradicts the interests of the USA.

We have previously informed about the works on enhancing the pathogenic characteristics of COVID-19 causative agent, carried out at Boston University with funds of the U.S. state budget, as well as the possible involvement of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the emergence of the new coronavirus.

The key role in the implementation of the abovementioned projects belongs to EcoHealth Alliance intermediary organisation. The available documents of the U.S. Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) confirm that, since 2015, professionals of the abovementioned company have been studying the diversity in the population of bats, searching for new coronavirus strains, and mechanisms of its transmission from animals to humans. Over 2.5 thousand specimen have been researched.

SOTT Focus: NewsReal: So, Are we at War With Russia or Not?

The German foreign minister stated this week that "we are at war with Russia." The French foreign ministry immediately corrected her to say, "No, we are not at war with Russia!" Meanwhile Hungarian PM Viktor Orban told the American Conservative magazine, "Yes, we are at war with Russia," and the Russian government clarified that it considers the transfer of heavy weaponry from NATO countries to Ukraine to mean that NATO is now "a party to the conflict."

Well, are 'we' at war with Russia or not?

Also on this NewsReal, Joe and Niall discuss the recent flare-up of terrorism in Israel and western Europe, along with the bizarre triple 'Asian' mass shooting mayhem in southern California.

SOTT Focus: Viktor Orban: West is 'in a War With Russia'

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (R)
Notes from a candid session with the antiwar Hungarian prime minister, who warns this conflict could easily get much worse

It happened again. This evening was the third time I've been in a small group session with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. I told the visiting journalists and publishers that they were going to be blown away by this guy, because they're not going to believe how different he is from the way he is portrayed in the Western media. He's sharp, funny, brilliant, and completely confident. He's not hovered over by press aides, and he doesn't guard his words to the point where he says nothing but mush. He's really interesting. As I told the folks I talked to before hand, at the conference, who were invited to meet later with the PM, "You're not going to believe that a world leader is actually like this."

As usual, after the event, there were stunned. Orban spent two hours with us, answering every question -- even particularly tough ones from a Polish journalist -- and was clearly loving it. I was never around Bill Clinton personally, but the things I read about how he was a natural politician -- it's at least as true of Viktor Orban. Last year, I was talking to a Fidesz politician about the PM, and he said there's not another politician in this country who can go from strategizing at the top level, to talking to country people at a farmer's market, and be utterly genuine in both places. I believe it. If he were on TV more in the United States, the view people have of Hungary would be totally different.

Comment: Rod Dreher is blown away by a two-hour candid interview. He should head further east and check out the 6-hour marathons with Putin!

On Tuesday the White House decided that it would send about 30 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, which was seen as political cover for Germany, which decided to ship 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev.

Early on the morning of May 2, 1945, General Vasily Chuikov, the commander of the Soviet 8thGuards Army, accepted the surrender of the German garrison of Berlin.

Two days prior, soldiers from the 150th Rifle Division, part of the Soviet 5th Shock Army, had raised the victory banner of the Red Army over the Reichstag. An hour after the banner went up, Adolf Hitler and his mistress, Eva Braun, committed suicide in his study inside the Furhrerbunker.

Chuikov, the hero of Stalingrad whose battered 62nd Army was renamed the 8th Guards Army in honor of their victory in holding that city in the face of a massive German onslaught, had led his troops into the heart of the Nazi capital, battling stubborn Nazi resistance in the Tiergarten district of Berlin, where the den of the Nazi beast was located. The Soviet general was rewarded for the courage and sacrifice of his soldiers by being in position to accept the German surrender.

SOTT Focus: Russo-Ukrainian War: The World Blood Pump

Since Russia's surprise decision to voluntarily withdraw from west bank Kherson in the first week of November, there has been little in the way of dramatic changes to the frontlines in Ukraine. In part, this reflects the predictable late autumn weather in Eastern Europe, which leaves battlefields waterlogged and clogged with mud and greatly inhibits mobility. For hundreds of years, November has been a bad month for attempting to move armies any sort of significant distance, and like clockwork we started to see videos of vehicles stuck in the mud in Ukraine.

The return of static positional warfare, however, also reflects the synergistic effect of increasing Ukrainian exhaustion along with a Russian commitment to patiently attriting and denuding Ukraine's remaining combat capability. They have found an ideal place to achieve this in the Donbas.

It has gradually become apparent that Russia is committed to a positional attritional war, as this maximizes the asymmetry of their advantage in ranged fires. There is an ongoing degradation of Ukraine's warmaking ability which is allowing Russia to patiently maintain the current tempo, while it organizes its newly mobilized forces for offensive action in the coming year, setting the stage for cascading and unsustainable Ukrainian losses.

In Ernest Hemingway's novel, The Sun Also Rises, a formerly wealthy, now down on his luck character is asked how he went bankrupt. "Two ways", he replies, "gradually and then suddenly." Someday we may ask how Ukraine lost the war and receive much the same answer.

Comment: This analysis is a fount of information, logic and strategy - well worth the read.

In an apparent last-ditch effort to thwart Russian forces sweeping across Ukraine, the Anglo-Americans are putting enormous pressure on Germany to greenlight the delivery of thousands of German-made Leopard 2 tanks to the 'war theater' they created. Faced with the prospect of the Russian army destroying German tanks en masse, for the second time in 80 years, will Germany cave and repeat history?

Meanwhile, the 'globalist elite' are meeting in Davos, Switzerland, for this year's World Economic Forum, where its representatives and prestigious guests are doing everything possible to validate ordinary people's suspicions that 'the globalists' are megalomaniacs.

Are the forces that took down Nixon and hamstrung Trump turning on Joe Biden? Tucker draws some amazing parallels between the Nixon era and the last few years in American politics.
