Memories of Bexley's most spectacular UFO sighting have been turned into a book by one of the people who witnessed it.
It was July 17, 1955 when Margaret Fry spotted the object as she was making her way to her GP's surgery in King Harold's Way from her home in Hythe Avenue.
Both she and her doctor Dr Thukarta, and around a dozen children playing in the street, saw the strange craft.
Mrs Fry described it as saucer shaped with a "blue/silver/grey/pewter texture, yet none of those colours".
She said it had three spheres set into its base, one of which "flopped out", landing on the ground at the junction of nearby Ashbourne and Whitfield roads.
High Strangeness

* July 7, 1947: A Greeley man working on a hay grinder north of Lucerne said he saw three flying saucers at 10 a.m. They were traveling at a high speed to the southwest. The next day, the most famous of all UFO incidents was announced -- the reputed crash of flying saucers in Roswell, N.M.
* On Aug. 25, 1949, a 12-year-old girl who lived northeast of Greeley reported a "flying disk" over her house in the early evening. She said it was flying far above a small plane. About the same time, some men were flying their small plane in the area, but the girl insisted what she saw was a disk above the plane.
* In 1952, although the exact date is unknown, a Weld County farmer reported he saw five "flying saucers" pass over his farm north of Greeley about 6 p.m. He said he also saw five fighter jets come through the area, possibly searching for the flying saucers, but the "speed of the saucers was immensely greater than the jets." The Tribune story also stated "Women folks were frightened by the terrible noise."

David Hinde was traveling from a musical theatre group in Malton to his home in Bempton when he saw what he believes could be a UFO.
"As I approached the Dotterel junction at about 10.45pm I could see in the distance, on the right-hand side, two glowing spherical objects, orange and red.
"I continued watching them and they were moving independently, diagonally, up and down and sideways, both quite close together.
"I pulled up just before Buckton and got out of the car and watched them for five or 10 minutes.
"It looked like they were at the back of the Honeypot Inn. They were distant but I could still see how they were moving.
"As I approached the Dotterel junction at about 10.45pm I could see in the distance, on the right-hand side, two glowing spherical objects, orange and red.
"I continued watching them and they were moving independently, diagonally, up and down and sideways, both quite close together.

A resident watched gobsmacked from a window of her home off the High Road as a scarlet coloured oval object with flashing red lights soared across the sky.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I've never made a call like this in my life. I've never seen anything like that. I may be barking but was it a visit from one of our friends from another place?"
The mysterious object was spotted last Friday (March 2) at around 10.40am heading in the direction of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Seven people have now come forward to claim they saw a UFO this week.
All reported seeing a large mysterious triangular object, with flashing red lights.
Electrician Graham Hearson, 45, of Westcliff, claimed he saw a UFO in Basildon while through Basildon on the A127 about 5am on Monday.

From an earlier report in The Echo: Graham Hearson said: "I saw flashing red lights in the sky. It was literally above my head."
Mr Hearson said the mystery object looked like a triangle or a square that had its sides pushed on.
He had been driving home from work in London to Southend about 5am when he claims the craft hovered silently past, just after the A130 turn-off to Wickford, and continued on to Benfleet.
Police had not received any other sightings.
A spokesman for London Southend Airport said no flights had been operating at that time and no unusual aircraft were in the area.
