Have you heard the one where the meteorite comes through the ceiling and nearly hits a guy sitting at the bar?

Neither had the patrons of the Red Rock Lounge on the west side until Wednesday night, when they heard a huge boom around 11:30 p.m. and a 4-inch hole opened up in the roof.

"They thought they were being attacked," said Karol Sandvig, owner of the bar at 31st Street and West Colorado Avenue. She said there were about 15 to 20 people in the bar when the ceiling exploded, sending insulation wafting through the air.

Five days after the incident, Sandvig and firefighters still aren't sure what caused the hole in the bar's roof, but a meteorite hunter from Arizona drove through the night to spend Monday searching above the bar's ceiling tiles for a piece of space rock. He hoped it had bounced off of a heating vent and was hiding somewhere in the ceiling.

Location of Sighting: Hibbing, Minnesota (N. Minnesota About 150 MI NNE of Minneapolis)

Description: I was visiting my grandmother who lives right next door to me. She said that the spinning plane was back. I had no clue as to what she was talking about so I looked out the window and saw a saucer. It was kind of far out in the distance with red, blue, green and clear/yellow lights. It moved very quickly up and down and everywhere. I asked my grandma how often she sees it and she got out a calendar that she wrote all the dates and times that she had seen it. It's always in the Northeast and it stays anywhere from 10 minutes and longer, but tonight it stayed for about an hour and a half. I ran home so my mom and father could see and they said it was spinning and it looked like a saucer.

Location of Sighting: Northeastern Bakersfield, California (About 100 MI NNW of Los Angeles)

Description: Tonight 1/2/2010 around 6:15 PM my kid came running in the house saying that there was something in the sky that looked like it was on fire. I went running outside and I saw it. It was a orangish-red flickering light. It was not moving. The kids said they first saw that it was coming down. It was about one or two minutes of it flashing then it started to fade away, but when the flashing stopped you could still see it. It looked like a rectangle with round corners. It was just sitting there in the dark. Then it began to move to the southeast. It moved very slow for a bit and then picked up speed. We watched it move in the dark until it moved out of sight. I do know that it was no plane. We couldn't be the only one that saw this.

Time: 1.20am

Witness Statement: Driving home in the early hours of New Year's Day, I saw a bright orange glowing light in the sky, it appeared to be attached to some kind of metallic craft. It hovered approx same height as when the Police helicopters are looking for someone but made no sound at all. Definitely wasn't an aircraft as no other lights on craft. The night was clear, stars were visible around it. It was clear to see for about three minutes then it moved away but the light never turned away as it would if it were a helicopter. Then it just disappeared, totally freaked me out!!!!

Time: Approx 11.30pm

Witness Statement: I was standing at the back door having a cig on an ad break during King Kong, while looking at the gaps in the clouds for shooting stars. When I noticed a triangular shaped object, with three white and orange rings near each corner. The orangey glow detailed the outline of the craft, the corners where rounded off, it moved silently (no engine noise was audible to me) quiet slowly across the sky, it then disappeared, I am pretty sure this is due to the angle of the craft, where the viewable part, the underneath is obscured due to the distance and angle, much like an LCD screen.

Wales: Police visit grandad to see his 40-second tape of 'flaming UFO' flight

A Grandfather rushed to grab his video camera after seeing what he thought was a UFO racing through the skies above Pontyclun.

Brian Howells, 64, caught just under a minute of film on Sunday evening in his back garden.

After locking up his summer house, he turned around to walk back into his house - and was startled by the sight of a strange shape in the sky.

Mr Howells, who lives with his wife Mary and son Stephen, saw what he thought was orange flames coming from the object.

He said: "I looked up to the sky and couldn't believe my eyes.

"It was about 5.50pm so it was fairly dark, and I saw this big ball of fire moving quite quickly and silently.

"I called Mary to have a look and then grabbed my video camera."

But as the couple had just returned from a holiday in Belgium, there was only 40 seconds left on the tape to capture any film.

"First of all, we thought it was a plane on fire," said Mr Howells, a retired manager at an upholstery firm.

"We are on the flight path from Cardiff Airport, so it's nothing unusual to see planes coming overhead.

"But as there were flames coming out of the side and back, Mary and I panicked and thought the plane was in trouble."

So he phoned Cardiff International Airport to ask whether there had been any emergencies in the area.

MUFON witness statement (unedited): Traveling southeast on Lassiter Road in Johnston County at 6:25pm on Dec. 30, 2009. Two eyewitnesses saw a small, square craft slowly float by. The craft was very dark, and the evening light made it difficult to determine an exact shape. It seemed to be square, dark, about 25ft. square base and maybe 5ft tall.

We were first caught off guard that a plane would be flying so low at night with no ground lights, but then noticed how slowly the craft was moving. The craft traveled exactly due west (we returned later that night with a compass) about 50-60ft off the ground and 40 yards to our left over a field at about 30mph. The craft had two dim lights, one was definitely red. I thought the other light was a dim green, but the other eyewitness remembered it as a dim white light.

The following is an unedited MUFON witness report posted 1/3/10:

Date of Sighting: 27 December 2009
Time of Sighting: approx. 2:00 AM GMT
Location: North Atlantic Ocean, approx. 500 km WNW of Shannon, Ireland or approx. 800 km W of Glascow, Scotland

Three bright red lights in a triangular (isosceles) shape over the North Atlantic Ocean, seen from a window seat (facing south) on Delta Airlines #106 flight from New York (JFK) to Frankfurt, Germany. At about 2:00 AM GMT, I was awake on the transatlantic flight at the time the cabin lights were dimmed and many people were sleeping and there was very little to no activity going on. I looked out the window at the stars, and noticed three bright red lights overhead in the one- to two-o'clock position in the sky. Thinking this was a reflection of cabin lights, I cupped my hands over my eyes to block out any reflecting light. The lights were bright and clear overhead, so I then immediately thought these were outside lights. I looked down over the wing lights, and noticed that the right wing light was white; since I couldn't see the tail at all from the window, I realized these were not tail lights. In addition, they were overhead, where I had to actually look up from the window, so I realized these lights were neither part of the plane nor were they land lights, since this was over the ocean.

England: Lights in V-shaped pattern seen by man and his guests

Christmas day celebrations were brought to a halt when a family spotted strange lights in the sky.

Gobsmacked grandfather Henry Harry called his festive guests into the garden when he saw lights making a V-shape just after 6pm.

The 84 year old said: "If I had seen it on my own I would have said I had had too much Christmas spirit but I was quite sober.

"It was fantastic to see. It was eerie and yet it was so exciting. It was big, silent and V-shaped with a big red light in the middle."

The Warners End resident contacted Luton Airport where operators were unable to explain the sighting.

Location of Sighting: Capitola, California (See Map)

Description: The witness called and report his sighting a few minutes after it occurred. He was outside having a cigarette and noticed a bright red light moving east. The light was not strobing and he seemed sure that it was not an aircraft. He went inside to get his father. His father also saw the red light. The light then stopped and hovered for about one minute. It then shot straight up and disappeared.

Note: The witness seemed sincere and described his sighting in detail. He attempted to take a video, but his camera battery was low.
