The weather bureau radar detected the unusual shape around 30km west of Rottnest Island on Wednesday afternoon.
In an interview with the ABC, meteorologist Neil Bennett said the phenomenon was not caused by cloud. "They don't take on S shapes and things like that," he said.
Mr Bennett told the broadcaster that the radar beam, programmed for the detection of precipitation, strikes rain droplets or ice particles.

And the hot potato house is still showing signs of a paranormal presence despite a vicar being drafted in to perform an exorcism.
Lisa Way, 38, first detected an eerie presence in September 2011.
She claimed to see faces at the windows and floating limbs in her mid-terrace home on Ely's Marcross Road.
She said at the time: "I saw a white light flash by the door. We started taking pictures with our camera phones - and the strangest things started showing up.
"Arms coming round the doors, legs coming down the stairs."
At the time Ms Way said she was desperate to leave but claimed the council refused to help.

Mysterious breakages and shadowy figures at the Carlisle Castle Hotel, Australia, have been captured on CCTV - and staff say weird stuff happens there all the time
Creepy video footage appears to show ghostly figures and bottles of expensive wine flying off shelves in a 'haunted' Australian hotel.
The Carlisle Castle Hotel bar, in Newtown, New South Wales found itself serving a different kind of spirit, as surveillance cameras captured the moment bottles fell to the floor behind the bar with nobody near them.
Licensee Peter Bradbury says that if it is a ghost, it has high-end tastes.
"Red wine seems to be the choice, apparently he likes the red," he told the Australian Telegraph.

Todd Sees the victim, lived at the foot of Montour Ridge,a mountain stretching over 20 miles east. Todd Sees went up the mountain to look for pre-season deer. He told his wife that he would be home by noon. He rode his 4 wheeler up the powerline behind his home at a little after 5:00 in the morning.

Ulverston-based Matt Benefield might have had an encounter with the mysterious creature while out and about on a 'calm' Sunday.
As a petrophysicist, Matt has a special interest the physical and chemical properties of rock and their interactions with fluids.
On January 12, he was at the north of the Lake, taking various photographs. When flicking through the photos back at home, he noticed something odd in the water. The 43-year-old said: "It was a really calm day and the water was very still. There was nobody out in the water, it was very quiet. When I was looking back through the photos, one caught my eye.
"I wouldn't normally think anything of it but it was the two ripples in the water that got me thinking there was possibly something strange in the Lake."

Let us assume that UFOs exist at frequencies beyond visible light but that they can adjust their frequency and descend the electromagnetic spectrum-just as you can turn the dial of your radio and move a variable condenser up and down the scale of radio frequencies. When a UFO's frequency nears that of visible light, it would first appear as a purplish blob of violet. As it moves farther down the scale, it would seem to change to blue, and then to cyan (bluish green). In our chapter on meteors we note that they most often appear as bluish-green objects.
I have therefore classified that section of the color spectrum as the UFO entry field. When the objects begin to move into our spatial and time coordinates, they gear down from the higher frequencies, passing progressively from ultraviolet to violet to bluish green. When they stabilize within our dimension, they radiate energy on all frequencies and become a glaring white.

Signs of 'High Strangeness' in 2013
Organized by month, the following video compilation is a collection of video footage showing just some instances of 'high strangeness' - UFOs, 'lights in the sky', strange cloud formations - from around the world in 2013.
Could some, many, or even most of these apparitions be explained by way of lens flare, other common optical illusions, or video fakery?... possibly. But when we take into account the considerable historical research into the paranormal, particularly that carried out by dedicated 'mainstream' researchers, whose skepticism motivated them to seek 'rational answers' for the hundred of thousands of reports that have been made over many decades, we come to the conclusion, as they have done, that there is a reality to these phenomena and that it closely interpenetrates humanity's 'consensus reality'.

Why is that noted? Because there's a "figure" visible inside the enclosed porch. And there are 800 pages of official, local government reports on the strange happenings here. The alleged hauntings came to an end once the family of four moved to another home.
