Long before Afghanistan became associated with the "War on Terror," strange and mysterious things were going on in the skies of the country. And, to the extent that the U.S. Department of State got interested in the matter. We're talking about UFOs. We're also talking about files on the matter which have been declassified under Freedom of Information legislation. On February 4, 1981, a Mr. Archard - reporting to the American Embassy in Aslamabad, Pakistan - prepared a document titled "Close Encounters in Afghanistan." It's a document that has a distinct UFO theme to it, but which also addresses the matter of the "UFOs" being secret devices/technologies of the former Soviet Union. Whatever the truth, it all began in 1980 and continued to concern U.S. authorities into 1981.

Archard wrote: "I am convinced that there is substance in the many travelers' reports from Afghanistan that the Red Army is using a type of very powerful, high intensity light there. The light may be used in connection with perimeter defense and/or road security. We have heard and reported accounts of this phenomenon since September, primarily from journalists and adventurers. These have described strange lights illuminating large portions - typically as much as or more than one quarter - of the Afghan sky. The locations of the sightings reported to us have been Ghazni (August 1980), Nuristan (Sept. 1980) and Khost (Jan., 1981)."

Comment: Do wars like the one in Afghanistan simply bring out the exotic hi-tech that is usually kept secret? Or is there something about war that attracts the attention of something 'other-worldly'? Afghanistan in the '80s arguably set the stage for what we are seeing in the Middle East today. That was when the U.S. first started training and supporting the radical Islamists that have morphed into groups like ISIS and al-Nusra today (and are just as fully trained and supported by their same Western handlers).

An anonymous witness claiming to have seen thousands of files relating to "UFO/ET" projects while working at the Naval Telecommunication Center at NAS Moffett field in the late 80s, says he is going public because his secrecy agreement has expired and he would like the government to disclose what they know on about UFOs and aliens. As shocking as his claims are, a UFO researcher who formerly worked for the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD), says he has "no doubts about [the witness'] background."

Comment: It's impossible to judge whether this man or his claims are legitimate or not at this point. That said, what little appears above isn't outside the realm of probability. It's a documented fact that certain officials in military and intelligence agencies took UFOs seriously. And the defense contractors would be involved in applying any technological insights gained from such study (the weaponization of any scientific advancement is an exceptionally American trait, after all). Plus, he doesn't seem to be making any outlandish claims (e.g., trips to Mars).

Chinese villagers are searching for a mysterious bloodsucking predator that has killed more than 200 chickens and ducks, mainland media reports.

For the past week police and residents from the village in Pudong, close to the city of Shanghai, have been hunting for the culprit round the clock, the news portal Eastday.com reported on Saturday.

The predator has left behind just one tantalising clue - a muddy webbed four-toed footprint.

Villagers said the footprint was the size of five-year-old child's hand.

The unidentified predator has only sucked on the blood of its prey, rather than feeding on its meat, the report said.

Residents said many of their birds had died after being bitten during the evenings over the past week. Some rabbits that had been raised by farmers in the village had also died in the same way, the report said.

A bizarre creature filmed 'hovering' in the street has caught the eye of conspiracy theorists - who believe it could be an alien .

The odd object was reportedly filmed by CCTV cameras in Diyarbakir, Turkey, before the video was shared thousands of times online.

The grainy footage shows the weird creature, only thought to be about a foot tall, moving slowly around the street.

At one stage, the creature rises into the air, appearing to hover there for several seconds before landing back on the road.

British Columbia, Canada is known for many things: beautiful landscapes, great skiing, the 2010 Winter Olympics - and the human feet that have been washing up on its shores for the last nine years.

Since 2007, 12 human feet clad in running shoes have been found on the shores of British Columbia, from Jedediah Island to Botanical Beach. So far, the provincial coroner's office has identified eight of the 12. Of those eight, two were pairs. The remaining lone feet, the coroner determined, belonged to men.


Comment: By our count, it's actually up to 17.

It had been nearly four years since a foot sighting, and then on 7 February a new one washed ashore, discovered by a hiker along Vancouver Island's Botanical Beach. Five days later, another one appeared. The coroner's office confirmed they were a pair.

The BC Coroners Service confirms that a second foot found washed up near Port Renfrew on the west coast of Vancouver Island is human and matches another foot that was found several days earlier in the same area.

The first foot was found by a hiker on Feb. 7 and a second running shoe containing a foot was found last Friday.

The Coroners Service says it appears both feet separated naturally from the rest of the body due to prolonged immersion in water and there is no indication of trauma or mechanical severance.

Efforts are now under way to try to identify the individual concerned and determine a cause of death using DNA testing.

The men's New Balance running shoes containing the feet were first sold in North America in March 2013, which suggests the wearer died at some point between that month and December 2015.

Fourteen feet have now washed up along the B.C. coastline since 2007. The BC Coroners Service has identified 10 of the previous 12 feet, belonging to seven individuals.

Foul play was not involved in any of the cases.

Some folks did, and viewers sent us in pictures of a string of lights in the sky near Buckeye.

So far no one is sure what those mysterious lights are, but some think they are military flares.

We checked with Luke Air Force Base but were told the base is not holding any training exercises.

The crew of an Apollo mission to the moon were so startled when they encountered strange music-like radio transmissions coming through their headsets, they didn't know whether or not to report it to NASA, it's been revealed.

It was 1969, two months before Apollo 11's historic first manned landing on the moon, when Apollo 10 entered lunar orbit, which included traversing the far side of the moon when all spacecraft are out of radio contact with Earth for about an hour and nobody on Earth can see or hear them.

As far as the public knew, everything about the mission went smoothly.

Almost four decades went by before lost recordings emerged that revealed something unsettling that the three Apollo astronauts had experienced while flying above the far side of the moon.
