Are environmental chemicals making you fat?

scale
Those who subscribe to mainstream health advice often have a good laugh at those of us who believe in alternative health treatments; especially when it comes to our concerns about toxins in the environment. To them, words like 'toxins' and 'detoxing' are just marketing terms that snake oil salesman use to sell their products to health nuts.

But we know better. We understand that there are very nasty chemicals lingering in our environment, and we know that even in small amounts they can have an accumulative effect over the course of our lifetimes. We also know that the human body can soak up these chemicals like a sponge, and they aren't always just 'expelled' by the body as is commonly believed. These substances build up, and often linger in the human body for years.

Fortunately, science has been catching up to what we've known all along. In fact, the scientific community is beginning to realize that these chemicals are not only making us sick, but more specifically they are making us obese and diabetic.

Prunella Vulgaris: The heal-all herb

Prunella Vulgaris
Prunella Vulgaris has a long history of medicinal use. It shows antiviral and antibacterial properties, and in China it is used as an anti-cancer drug. It can also be used for the prevention and treatment of cognitive impairments associated with Alzheimer's disease or schizophrenia.

Prunella vulgaris var. lilacina Nakai (Labiatae) is commonly known as the 'self-heal' herb or heal-all. It is widely distributed in Europe, Asia and North America.

Daily consumption of extracts from Prunella vulgaris var. lilacina may enhance cognitive function in lab mice, says a new study from South Korea. It is often found growing in waste ground, grassland, woodland edges, usually on basic and neutral soils.

Killer Care: How medical error became America's third largest cause of death

The following is an excerpt from Killer Care: How Medical Error Became America's Third Largest Cause of Death, and What Can Be Done About It by James B. Lieber (OR Books, 2015).

In the fourth quarter of the twentieth century, a series of medical errors captured public attention and drove change in unprecedented ways. It was a time—perhaps the last time—of powerful investigative media, especially daily newspapers that combed courthouses for stories of medical malpractice and did not simply report initial filings or final verdicts. Moreover, the victims, their families, and advocates exhibited a newfound tenacity in terms that went beyond their own struggles and spread into a quest for broader deterrence and reform. Inside health care, these epic battles are known as the "mediagenic cases."

Caffeine: Some interesting facts

Image
People may not think of caffeine as the most popular mood-altering drug in the world, even those who use it daily, by drinking coffee, tea, sodas or energy drinks as part of their routine.

Yet many of us depend on regular doses of 1,3,7 trimethylxanthine, the chemical name for a bitter white powder known as caffeine, to help wake us up, keep us alert and get us through the daily grind.

Whether it's brewed from a K-Cup, sipped in sweet tea, savored in chocolate or downed in cola, caffeine is a mild stimulant to the central nervous system that has become a regular fixture in everyday life.

Fukushima radiation producing cancer clusters in children at more than 50 times that of normal population

fukushima cancer
Is radiation from nuclear meltdown literally sucking the life out of those growing up nearest do the accident site in Japan?

An alarming new study suggests that Fukushima may be producing cancer clusters in Japanese children, with rates soaring to more than 50 times typical levels of thyroid cancer in the general population.

NPR reports:
A new analysis of data from Fukushima suggests children exposed to the March 2011 nuclear accident may be developing thyroid cancer at an elevated rate.

In the past year or so, the Fukushima Health Survey of more than 150,000 children has turned up 25 "suspicious or malignant cases" of thyroid cancer. Thyroid screenings in previous years have also found numerous cases.

The work, led by Toshihide Tsuda of Okayama University, is based on a large public health survey that was set up in Japan's Fukushima prefecture following the accident. As part of the survey, children who were living near the plant at the time of the accident have been offered regular thyroid screenings.

Thyroid cancer can be caused by radioactive iodine released in a nuclear accident. Children are particularly susceptible because their thyroids are growing rapidly. Thyroid cancer was listed as a possible health risk in a World Health Organization report on Fukushima, though the report stated it would be difficult to link cancer cases to the accident.

Comment: As usual those in charge have been attempting to cover up the ongoing devastation resulting from this disaster. Rather than inform people of the real dangers, and give them information that could help them protect themselves, these psychopaths in their wishful thinking assume that they can carry on as usual without repercussions indefinitely, but the truth is now undeniable.

Hugging a tree is good for you, scientifically validated!

Image
It has been recently scientifically validated that hugging trees is good for you. Research has shown that you don't even have to touch a tree to get better, you just need to be within its vicinity has a beneficial effect.

In a recently published book, Blinded by Science, the author Matthew Silverstone, proves scientifically that trees do in fact improve many health issues such as concentration levels, reaction times, depression, stress and other various forms of mental illness. He even points to research indicating a tree's ability to alleviate headaches in humans seeking relief by communing with trees.

The author points to a number of studies that have shown that children show significant psychological and physiological improvement in terms of their health and well being when they interact with plants and trees. Specifically, the research indicates that children function better cognitively and emotionally in green environments and have more creative play in green areas. Also, he quotes a major public health report that investigated the association between green spaces and mental health concluded that "access to nature can significantly contribute to our mental capital and well being".

Hugging boosts oxytocin and improves emotional well-being

Hug

Neuroeconomist Paul Zak, also known as "Dr. Love," recommends at least eight hugs a day to be happier and enjoy better relationships.1 Psychotherapist Virginia Satir also famously said:2
"We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth."
This may very well be the "hug threshold" that allows your body to produce ample amounts of oxytocin, which is released in response to physical touch. The neuropeptide oxytocin, released by your pituitary gland, is a naturally occurring hormone in your body with incredibly powerful, health-giving properties.

It is also a key reason why the simple act of hugging is such an incredible way to not only bond with others but also boost your physical, and emotional, health.

The Lymphatic System: The secret to staying healthy

Image
Let's talk about the sewer system of your body. Did you know the lymphatic system circulates, cleans, and filters all the leftover blood in the body? Surprisingly, there are three times more lymph than blood in the body. It is far too important not to educate people about this before society's toxic, consumeristic products overwhelm our most important detoxification system.

The gut contains up to 80% of our immune cells. They're contained in GALT, or gut associated lymphatic tissue. From our tonsils and adenoids in the throat to our colon, the gut is the storehouse of the lymphatic system. Lymphocytes, or white blood cells that are part of the lymphatic system, are also stored and made in the thymus behind the heart, the spleen, appendix, bone marrow, and lymph nodes scattered throughout the body. See how important mouth to colon health is? Why would the body put nearly our entire immune system there if exposure to food wasn't so vital?

Straight to your lazy butt: Big Pharma says "The world needs exercise pills"

Image
It is being reported that exercise pills are currently under development to save all the lazy couch potatoes from having to actually get up off the couch and stop watching Dancing with the Stars and football long enough to maintain circulation to a degree that they don't appear dead to onlookers.

Pills going through animal trials as we speak are set to attempt to mimic physical activity. Things like burning fat, forming new blood vessels, reinvigorating old cells and enhancing muscle fibers.

Comment: When will Big Pharma and Big Food realize that the synergistic effects of exercise cannot be 'bought'? Dr. Mercola address the intellectual arrogance of such an approach:
When done correctly, exercise can often times act as a substitute for some of the most common drugs used for things like diabetes, heart disease, and depression. Unfortunately, a side effect of our modern quick fix culture is that many still wish for a magic pill or elixir, and Nestlé now claims to be able to bottle the benefits of exercise...

The Allure of 'Exercise in a Bottle'

Nutritional supplements can serve an important function by helping to correct specific nutritional imbalances or deficiencies, but trust me - they will never be able to replace physical exercise...

The intellectual arrogance of this approach is only exceeded by Nestle's egregious attempts at profits with disregard to health. It reminds me of their efforts to stop women in third world countries from breastfeeding so they could sell them vastly inferior synthetic formula that they made.

Clearly, a great many people struggle with weight issues. But to think that an "exercise potion" will be able to save you from the hassle of having to break a sweat is nothing short of delusional. There is simply no way a supplement will be able to stimulate your muscle to provide the complex physiology they need to provide you with optimal health.
