It's a shame that medical history generally isn't part of the curriculum in medical school. If it was, maybe doctors would be more humble about what they know, and what they don't know. If I were to design a medical school curriculum, I would make the first five to ten weeks of medical school an in-depth course in medical history, with a particular focus on all the mistakes doctors and scientists have made through the centuries, and why they made those mistakes. To quote a well worn cliché, those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.
Personally, I wear my skepticism as a badge of pride. If I were to seek out a doctor for some medical condition I was suffering from, I would want that person to be a natural skeptic. I would want someone who won't believe something just because that's what they were taught in medical school, or because it's what they heard from a salesperson working for a pharmaceutical company.
I'm going to present four different cases from recent history, that I think show clearly why it's important to be highly skeptical when it comes to the area of health and medicine. Things can often seem to be very beneficial after a few early studies, or because common sense suggests they should be beneficial. Then when more data comes in, sometimes decades after a certain treatment has become the "gold standard" of therapy, it becomes clear that the intervention is actively harmful. In some cases, millions of people have died prematurely as a result of the intervention by this point. When this happens, when something goes from being the recommended therapy to turning around 180 degrees and becoming something that doctors recommend against, it is known as a medical reversal. Unfortunately, medical reversals are common.
Another thing that I think is unfortunate is that scientific methodology is not really something that is taught in school. People even leave university with very limited training in scientific method. This causes the large majority of the population to be unable to weigh scientific evidence themselves, and it makes them totally beholden to the opinions of others. That's why I try to use this blog to educate in scientific method. Science, just like democracy, thrives when lots of people are able to examine different pieces of evidence and think for themselves.
Anyway, let's get to the four cases.
Experts say that measures put in place to fend off the coronavirus — mask wearing, social distancing and virtual schooling — were a big factor in preventing a "twindemic" of flu and COVID-19. A push to get more people vaccinated against flu probably helped, too, as did fewer people traveling, they say.
Another possible explanation: The coronavirus has essentially muscled aside flu and other bugs that are more common in the fall and winter. Scientists don't fully understand the mechanism behind that, but it would be consistent with patterns seen when certain flu strains predominate over others, said Dr. Arnold Monto, a flu expert at the University of Michigan.
Nationally, "this is the lowest flu season we've had on record," according to a surveillance system that is about 25 years old, said Lynnette Brammer of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Hospitals say the usual steady stream of flu-stricken patients never materialized.
At Maine Medical Center in Portland, the state's largest hospital, "I have seen zero documented flu cases this winter," said Dr. Nate Mick, the head of the emergency department. Ditto in Oregon's capital city, where the outpatient respiratory clinics affiliated with Salem Hospital have not seen any confirmed flu cases.
Except, being required to present your "papers" in order to live your life isn't actually freedom at all — it's discrimination, and even a move toward technocratic fascism, one that's setting the stage for increased surveillance and erosion of your privacy.
Nonetheless, this blatant move toward an ever-increasing surveillance state is being welcomed by many who have been led to believe the passports are necessary to protect public health and safety.

Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said on Tuesday that the risk of acquiring the ulcer in those areas was considered low, but "this is the first non-coastal area in Victoria to be recognised as a potential area of risk".
"A genetic analysis of bacteria isolated from these people as part of a research project suggests a common source of infection in the area," Professor Sutton said in a health advisory issued to medicos and residents on Tuesday.
"These results are relevant right now to the COVID-19 pandemic," said senior author Seema Lakdawala, Ph.D., assistant professor of microbiology and molecular genetics at Pitt. "They may explain age-based distributions of SARS-CoV-2 disease severity and susceptibility.
"Having flu once does not make you immune to all future influenza viruses," she said. "Nor does having had the original SARS virus in 2003 or any of the 'common cold' coronaviruses in circulation necessarily mean you can't get infected with SARS-CoV-2. But your susceptibility to infection might be different than someone who has never encountered a coronavirus."
Comment: It would appear that, for a number of reasons, lockdowns and experimental vaccines that prevent children from acquiring natural immunity may actually worsen future epidemics and pandemics:
- Severe flu epidemic predicted next winter after lockdowns block usual herd immunity
- Medieval plague outbreaks picked up speed over 300 years

Hear much about COVID-19 lately? Sure you do, you think. We hear about vaccinations taking place and all manner of furor about whether the vaccine is any good, or if it is a mind-control drug or some fiercely dangerous compound that kills more people than the virus it is supposed to protect everybody from. In the United States, the ferocity of this argument appears to be fierce, while in Russia it is quiet. Life goes on, at least in Russia, with businesses beginning to run "as usual" once again.
But have you heard much about COVID-19 itself, lately? That is the question here. The answer is probably "no."
Comment: The COVID-19 virus was probably a man-made virus, but not necessarily a bio-weapon, since it looks like it was not designed to kill many people (compare to something like ebola). Can we infer intent by looking at what has happened in response? If so, the virus has enabled psychopathic elites to impose totalitarian rules and absolute control over the world population and economy by creating massive panic and fear. Intentional or not, that's quite a feat. And all this madness is supported and spread by mainstream media and national governments.

On Saturday, Anna Popova, the head of health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor told journalists that experts at the Vector Institute in Siberia had "isolated genetic material" from a new influenza variant.
The samples they tested came from seven employees of a poultry farm in southern Russia, which registered a bird flu outbreak in December last year.
"We have more than 520 cases... of which more than 31 have been fatal," Patrick Karamura, health minister in Ituri province, where plague is endemic, told AFP.
The cases are the bubonic form of the disease, except for five cases of pneumonic plague and two of septicaemic plague, he said.
