Study: Vegetarians are less healthy than meat eaters

Image
Vegans take note: A blockbuster new study from Austria which is sure to send shock waves and generate massive denials among vegetarians has concluded that people who eat only vegetables are less healthy in key health categories and have a poorer quality of life than people who include some meat in their diets.

Among the study findings:
  • Vegetarians visit their doctors more often and are more prone to allergies
  • They also have a 50% increased risk of both heart attacks and cancer
  • They are also more likely to develop depression and anxiety disorders
The study did find that vegetarians had some significant health advantages, such as being more physically active, drinking less alcohol and smoking less tobacco; however, vegetarians' health overall was deemed to be unhealthy compared to those who included some meat in their diets.

How inflammation affects the developing brain

I have posted several blogs relating the fundamental role of inflammation to neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Indeed, this is one of the central themes of Grain Brain.
Image
That said, we've also got to take a look at the role of inflammation in the developing brain because the same damaging effects of the chemical mediators of inflammation in the adult might well lead to issues in the delicate brains of infants and young children.

In a new study just published in the journal BMC Pediatrics, researchers looked at several parameters in infants including the frequency of febrile illnesses, as well as blood markers of increased inflammation including IL-1 beta, IL-6, and IL-4 which is thought to indicate reduction of inflammation.

What the authors discovered was dramatic. There was a significant direct relationship between higher levels of the inflammatory markers and risk for developmental issues. In addition, higher levels of IL-4, associated with lower levels of inflammation, correlated perfectly with reduced risk for developmental problems.

Saudi Arabia reports increase in deadly MERS virus cases

Saudi medical staff leave the emergency department at a hospital in the center of the Saudi capital Riyadh on April 8, 2014. The health ministry reported four more MERS cases in Jeddah, two of them among health workers, prompting authorities to close the emergency department at the city's King Fahd Hospital
Saudi Arabia has confirmed seven new cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), adding up to 36 infections in five days, a sudden increase of a disease that kills about a third of the people infected and has no cure.

MERS, a SARS-like novel coronavirus that emerged in Saudi Arabia two years ago, has infected 231 people in the kingdom, of whom 76 have died, the Health Ministry said on its website.

Meanwhile, another cluster of cases has been detected in the United Arab Emirates, and a Malaysian who was recently in the Gulf has been confirmed as infected, his country said.

MERS has no vaccine or anti-viral treatment, but international and Saudi health authorities say the disease, which originated in camels, does not transmit easily between people and may simply die out.

Eat more fat! - Amazing results

Just one vital fact. More is needed. Take a look at the principles of Weston A. Price that were found in ALL healthy peoples all over the world with varying diets. Eskimos ate mostly meat. Polynesians ate mostly veges. But they ALL shared common principles that accounted for their extreme level of health and longevity. Fat was highly regarded by them all, thus, one of the vital principles of the traditional diets of our forefathers.

Brazilian migraine sufferer found to have calcium stones in brain; gluten the culprit

The 'calcium stones' found in the brain of a Brazilian man suffering from headaches for several years

A Brazilian man who suffered from terrible headaches and vision problems was found to have 'calcium stones' in his brain.

The stones were due to him suffering from undiagnosed coeliac disease - an autoimmune disease caused by intolerance to gluten.

Because of his symptoms of headaches and vision problems, the man had been treated for migraines but shown no signs of improvement.

It was only when he had a CT scan that the calcium stones - patches of calcification in the back of the man's brain - were detected in the area responsible for vision, LiveScience reports.

Tests showed fluid in the man's brain had antibodies associated with coeliac disease. The condition is caused by a reaction of the immune system to gluten - a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.

Children are mentally, physically, and developmentally worse off than the previous generation

Millions of children around the world cannot run as fast or as far as their parents were able to at their age. They cannot maintain their heart rates at high levels, recover from activity, have more illness and are slower, heavier with physical, developmental and emotional barriers that their parents never had.

We have a bombardment of artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, emulsifiers, sweeteners that have saturated the food supply for more than four decades, increasing toxicity levels of cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, reproductive, and immune systems.

We have 49 vaccines administered to children before the age of 6 and those are public health and medically prescribed doses.

The average child has consumed more sugar by the time they are 8 years old than the average adult did in their entire lifetime just a century ago.

Gardasil: Two shots were too many for my daughter

Image
Let me begin my story by saying that my 24 year old daughter Karina was a very active girl prior to receiving the HPV vaccine Gardasil. She loved to swim and would do this at least 5 to 7 times per week and her sessions would last for around two hours. She had to give this up when she started to study at the University. She also biked 3-4 times a week to or from the University which is 17 km from her home and often enough would do this both ways. Karina is studying at the University of Copenhagen for a BSc in Natural Science and Information Technology (IT) with specialization in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. Unfortunately since she became sick after vaccination she is now struggling with her exams and she has just completed her BSc course and is very disappointed as her grades are not as good as they would have been if she had not been so sick.

The reason Karina had this vaccination at an older age was because our central government, with effect from 27th August 2012, introduced a temporary vaccination scheme which meant that the HPV vaccine was free for girls born between 1st January 1985 to December 1992. We thought we were doing this in her best interests to prevent her from possibly developing cervical cancer - oh if only we had known that what we believed would protect her, was going to cause her to have such serious health issues. Prior to being vaccinated, Karina was a very healthy young lady - her medical records can testify to that.

Karina had her first shot of Gardasil on 30th August 2012. She had a lot of pain in her arm for about a month but we just took it for granted that this was a common side effect and was harmless. Also about a month later she had a bad week with vomiting and stomach aches. Again we did not connect this to the vaccine.

About two weeks before she should have had the second shot, she had very severe pain in her groin. It got worse and she went to see her doctor to get some help. He took a urine test which showed bacteria and blood and put her on to antibiotics. The next day she got her second shot and an hour after vaccination she was admitted to Hvidovre Hospital with a high temperature which just kept rising. Karina was still having problems in her groin area and some of her lymph nodes were still badly swollen. Her urine was cultured but the results came back negative but blood was still present in this sample and every urine test she had over the next 3-4 months.

Samantha Chang - authoritarian follower, DOJ wannabe - puts profit before people
The author of this article, and a few other articles hosted on Sott.net, Samantha Chang, recently demanded that Sott.net stop republishing her articles (all of which are on the Ketogenic diet), on pain of "bad things happening" to us (see email below).

Like a good authoritarian follower, Ms. Chang backed up her 'threat' with a symbol of the totalitarian state under which she exists - an image of a United States Dept. of Justice wallet (see below), which seems to suggest that she has perhaps internalized the fascistic ideology of the police state that is the US of A.

Many writers have published information on the benefits of a Ketogenic diet, including research conducted by Sott.net that was made freely available to all. Ms. Chang, however, obviously does not subscribe to the idea of the free flow of vitally important information in an age of massive information control and subversion.

Given that Ms. Chang is obviously more interested in personal profit rather than the dissemination of information that could help many people, we will no longer be carrying her articles. In chasing after self-aggrandizement at the expense of helping others, she has clearly aligned herself with the fundamentals of our pathologically narcissistic global society.

Immunized: 8 mumps cases at New Jersey college

Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ
The New Jersey Department of Health is investigating eight confirmed cases of mumps found in students at Stevens Institute of Technology.

The college in Hoboken says the students range in age from 18 to 21. All were fully vaccinated with two documented doses of mumps-containing vaccine.

The school says it has told faculty and staff members who are unsure of their immunization status to check with their health providers.

"At Stevens our top priority is the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. Consistent with the procedures outlined by the NJDOH, all students with suspected mumps infection were isolated from others during the infectious phase of the illness and returned to their homes off campus," said Maggie Cunning, Director of the Student Health Services. "There have been no reports of newly symptomatic cases since the initial cases last week."

Stevens is encouraging anyone who may have recently visited the campus or had close contact with a student or staff member to contact their doctor if they are exhibiting mumps symptoms. These include swollen salivary glands, fever, headache, tiredness and loss of appetite.

New MRSA superbug discovered in Brazil

An international research team led by Cesar A. Arias, M.D., Ph.D., at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) has identified a new superbug that caused a bloodstream infection in a Brazilian patient. The report appeared in the April 17 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.

The new superbug is part of a class of highly-resistant bacteria known as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA, which is a major cause of hospital and community-associated infections. The superbug has also acquired high levels of resistance to vancomycin, the most common and least expensive antibiotic used to treat severe MRSA infections worldwide.

Most worrisome is that genomic analyses indicated that this novel vancomycin-resistant MRSA superbug belongs to a genetic lineage that is commonly found outside hospitals (designated community-associated MRSA), said Arias, the report's senior author and an associate professor of medicine, microbiology and molecular genetics at the UTHealth Medical School.
