Not so happy - 6-year-old Happy Meal

Anchorage - Jennifer Lovdahl, from Anchorage, Alaska, posted a Facebook status with a meal she bought from the fast food chain in 2010.

The photo of the meal shows the happy meal box (with an advertisement for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) with the receipt still attached, and four chicken nuggets with fries. The food looks as if it may have lost some coloring, but otherwise appears the same as a fresh version of the meal.

"It's been 6 years since I bought this "Happy Meal" at McDonald's. It's been sitting at our office this whole time and has not rotted, molded, or decomposed at all!!! It smells only of cardboard," Lovdahl said.

"We did this experiment to show our patients how unhealthy this "food" is. Especially for our growing children!! There are so many chemicals in this food! Choose real food! Apples, bananas, carrots, celery....those are real fast food."

Is it possible for an epidemic to be invisible?

Since 1991 the annual number of newly documented cases of thyroid cancer in the United States has skyrocketed from 12,400 to 62,450. It's now the seventh most common type of cancer.

Relatively little attention is paid to the butterfly-shaped thyroid gland that wraps around the throat. Many don't even know what the gland does. But this small organ (and the hormone it produces) is crucial to physical and mental development, especially early in life.

Cancer of the thyroid also gets little attention, perhaps because it is treatable, with long-term survival rates more than 90 percent. Still, the obvious question is what is causing this epidemic, and what can be done to address it?

NBC news reports: Less than 30% of Congress admits to vaccinating their own kids!

This is HUGE!!!

In a story released yesterday, NBC "News" reports on the results of their poll to United States Congressmen and Congresswomen.

NBC asked our nation's leaders, "Are your kids vaccinated?"

Here are the results of the poll:

Out of 434 members of the House of Representatives, 121 responded affirmatively, indicating “Yes. My children are vaccinated.”

Comment: Rather revealing when you consider the following: In Congress: New bill requires mandatory childhood vaccine schedule
The U.S. Congress is now entertaining legislation which will make mandatory childhood vaccination schedules currently prescribed by the CDC. The way of enforcing this new and stricter regime is by tying compliance directly to federal funding...

Should this legislation pass, it will make it virtually impossible for parents to opt out their children from the aggressive childhood schedules, regardless of the reason. Up until now, there have been exemptions granted for a variety of good reasons. Religious and philosophical exemptions are chief among those which have produced an immediate release for those children attending public school.

The United States Preventive Services Task Force recently recommended mandatory depression screening for all Americans. The task force wants to force health insurance companies to pay for the screening. Basic economics, as well as the Obamacare disaster, should have shown this task force that government health insurance mandates harm Americans.

Government health insurance mandates raise the price of health insurance. Consumers will respond to this increase by either choosing to not carry health insurance or by reducing their consumption of other goods and services. Imposing new health insurance mandates will thus make consumers, many of whom are already suffering from Obamacare's costly mandates, worse off by forcing them to deviate from their preferred consumption patterns.

Mandatory depression screening will not just raise insurance costs. In order to ensure that the screening mandate is being properly implemented, the government will need to create a database containing the results of the screenings. Those anti-gun politicians who want to forbid anyone labeled "mentally ill" from owning a firearm will no doubt want to use this database as a tool to deprive individuals of their Second Amendment rights.

Along the path toward the creation of a global capitalist system, some of the most significant steps were taken by the English enclosure movement.

Between the 15th to 19th centuries, the rich and the powerful fenced off commonly held land and transformed it into private property. Land switched from a source of subsistence to a source of profit, and small farmers were relegated to wage laborers. In Das Kapital, Marx described the process by coining the term land-grabbing. To British historian E.P. Thompson, it was "a plain enough case of class robbery."

More recently, a similar enclosure movement has taken place. This time, the fenced-off commodity is life-saving medicine. Playing the role of modern-day lords of the manor are pharmaceutical corporations, which have taken a good that was once considered off-limits for private profiteering and turned it into an expensive commodity. Instead of displacing small landholders, this enclosure movement causes suffering and death: Billions of people across the globe go without essential medicines, and 10 million die each year as a result.

A growing body of scientific evidence show that cell phone users suffer a range of negative health impacts from infertility and brain tumors to hyperactivity and memory loss, writes Gary Null. Yet the Center for Disease Control has taken a weak and ambiguous stance on the issue, reflecting industry interests at the expense of citizens. We deserve - and must demand - better.

In an article published in the New York Times last month entitled 'At CDC, a Debate Behind Recommendations on Cellphone Risk', author Danny Hakim discusses the controversy surrounding the potential health risks of using cell phones.

Hakim writes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidelines recommending"caution in cellphone use", due to the potentially harmful effects of radiation emitted by the wireless devices on human health. Included in the guidelines was information about reducing exposure among children.

Perhaps my long-held postulate—if doctors read and took seriously the emerging science in peer review journals regarding vaccine chemicals and neurotoxins, in particular, and disregarded Big Pharma's hype and perks, they would not vaccinate infants and toddlers, or anyone—has been vindicated by impeccable, validating, and published research science!

An alarming photograph of a McDonald's chicken McNuggets Happy Meal left to sit unrefrigerated and untouched for six years recently went viral on social media.

"It's been 6 years since I bought this 'Happy Meal' at McDonald's," Jennifer Lovdahl posted on Facebook. "It's been sitting in our office this whole time and has not rotted, molded, or decomposed at all!!! It smells only of cardboard."

Lovdahl's two photos show the meal's original box with the receipt attached — which, with its grease marks, appears to be in worse shape than the meal's four-piece chicken nuggets and fries shown in the second photo.

"We did this experiment to show our patients how unhealthy this 'food' is. Especially for our growing children!!" she explained in the post. "There are so many chemicals in this food! Choose real food! Apples, bananas, carrots, celery..... those are the real fast food."

Genetically engineered (GE) food comes from crops in which genes from one species have been integrated into another species — even between species in which this is biologically impossible in nature. The end result is a gene sequence that would never have occurred naturally.

There are two main types of GE crops:
  1. Herbicide-tolerant crops: Plants engineered to withstand heavy herbicide spraying without sustaining damage, such as Roundup Ready crops
  2. Pesticide-producing crops: So-called Bt plants are engineered to produce their own internal pesticide, so that when a bug takes a bite of the plant, it dies
Trying to control genetic changes via artificial modification is a dangerous game. An organism's genome is not static but fluid, and its biological functions are interconnected with its environment and vice versa.

Contrary to what the industry would like you to believe, the process of genetic engineering is imprecise at best, and is riddled with unintended and often unforeseeable consequences.

Of course that is about to change with the new technology, CRISPR-Cas9 that I reviewed last month. Once this technology is implemented, we will need to pay very careful attention to what the researchers are planning.

A spirited discussion about genetically engineered foods was broadcast January 25, 2016 on The Agenda, the flagship current affairs programme of TVO, Ontario's public television network. (These products are also called "genetically modified organisms" or GMOs.) I presented evidence-based reasons for regarding these foods as abnormally risky and the current regulatory system as deficient, while Robert Wager, a biologist at Vancouver Island University, defended the foods and the system. However, his arguments substantially relied on assertions that were either flat-out false or significantly misleading. Some of his most serious distortions are detailed below, with citations to evidence that decisively demonstrates their erroneousness.
