Depressed? Check your thyroid function

thyroid and depression
© Unknown
Low thyroid is a much more common problem then we may believe. Dr. Ridha Arem, the author of the Thyroid Solution, believes that one in ten Americans suffers from Thyroid Dysfunction. Some of the typical symptoms for low thyroid are low energy levels, depression, cold hands and feet, poor mental focus, weight gain, tendency to have low body temperature, headaches, and autoimmune conditions. There are many more symptoms of low thyroid as well.

The thyroid gland is located in the front of our throat below our larynx. The thyroid is a major player in controlling our metabolism. This is why low energy and weight issues usually accompany dysfunction of the thyroid. The thyroid produces hormones, the primary ones being triiodothyronine (T3) and tetraiodothyronine (T4).

The hypothalamus releases thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) which stimulates the anterior pituitary to secrete thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The TSH is what acts upon the thyroid to release hormones. T3 and T4 get their abbreviations from their chemical makeup. The T stands for tyrosine and the 3 and 4 represent the amount of iodine molecules attached. T4 is the primary storage form and T3 is the more active form of the hormone.

Creator of China's Shared Harvest Farm trailblazing new organic farming army

China organic farming
© Katrina Yu/Al Jazeera

Thirty-three-year-old Yan is a trailblazer in Chinese agriculture and opened her farm, Shared Harvest, in 2012
We'd been driving for an hour and a half since leaving central Beijing when the car suddenly slowed to a halt. "This isn't exactly where the GPS told me to go, but I think it's the place," says the driver.

I look out the window and see a simple wooden archway leading to a plain, one-storey building. The facade is bare except for some words painted in black capital letters. "Who is your farmer? Where does your food come from?" it reads.

"Yes," I reply. "This is definitely the place."

I've arrived at Shared Harvest, a 2.6-hectare farm in the countryside 70km north of the capital, to meet Shi Yan, its founder and chief executive. This is one of two Shared Harvest farms; the second is located in Tongzhou, half-an-hour away.

Yan greets me warmly, wearing a knitted green cardigan and long purple scarf. "Sorry I'm late. It's busy now because of the conference," she says.

The GMO-tumor link has been vindicated though the mainstream media stays silent

If you follow the mainstream media, you'll probably only know the Seralini 2012 rat feeding study as "that GMO cancer study that got retracted." You probably won't know that the paper has since been republished and Seralini himself has won two court victories defending his work. Join me for today's Thought For The Day as I break down the GMO truth that Monsanto doesn't want you to know.

Comment: For any health conscious reader, the science on the dangers of GMOs is settled. Congratulations to Seralini on winning his case, though most will not hear of his victory.

You can read more about this case in the following articles:

Monsanto to be brought to the Hague and put on trial for crimes against humanity

Monsanto

If only this were a tombstone.

The Organic Consumers Association (OCA), IFOAM International Organics, Navdanya, Regeneration International (RI), and Millions Against Monsanto, joined by dozens of global food, farming and environmental justice groups announced today that they will put Monsanto MON (NYSE), a US-based transnational corporation, on trial for crimes against nature and humanity, and ecocide, in The Hague, Netherlands, next year on World Food Day, October 16, 2016.

Comment: Not soon enough!

Since the beginning of the twentieth century according to the groups, Monsanto has developed a steady stream of highly toxic products which have permanently damaged the environment and caused illness or death for thousands of people. These products include:

Syphilis returns: Why are rates of the once-rare disease now climbing again?

Syphilis

"Syphilis," painted by the British artist Richard Tennant Cooper in 191
"In the yere of Chryst 1493 or there aboute this most foule and most grievous disease beganne to sprede amonge the people," a German scholar named Ulrich von Hutten wrote soon after the first known outbreak of syphilis swept across Europe.

In his book Guns, Germs, and Steel, the historian Jared Diamond elaborated:
"Its pustules often covered the body from the head to the knees, caused flesh to fall off people's faces, and led to death within a few months."
Today, syphilis can seem like a historical relic, more likely to appear in period movies than in one's next-door neighbor. But after more than a decade of increases in syphilis cases, the United States is looking at its highest rate in recent memory.

Down Under: More vaccination tyranny

Vaccination down under
In April of this year, the Australian federal government officially joined the state Queensland and Victoria governments and declared war on our children and our community.

How and why would they do this?

The how is the easy part: Despite the fact that vaccination is not compulsory in Australia, they passed a law that financially penalizes low-income families who do not vaccinate their children according to the recommended government schedule and removes the right of parents to object based on conscientious, philosophical and religious reasons. As of January 1, 2016, these families, some of which already have vaccine-injured children, will lose up to $15,000 a year per child if they do not do as they are told by the Australian government, and yet they have the gall to say that these families still have a choice.

Comment: The ongoing Vaccine wars: Penalizing the unvaccinated?
Big-Pharma, not Activists, are Responsible for the Growing Mistrust of Vaccines

The debate isn't ultimately about the science of vaccines, but rather a lack of trust of those charged with producing, monitoring the safety of, and distributing vaccines. The false narrative of science versus conspiracy theorists is peddled by the media, the government, and the corporations that hold influence over both because a narrative focusing on the wisdom of entrusting criminals and mass murderers with our health is an open and shut case.

Such a conclusion would result in the ditching of big-pharma's vaccines and seeking alternative solutions to immunization, vaccine production and distribution, and overall accountability for healthcare. This would in turn result in the decentralization of healthcare and pharmaceutical production, breaking up the unwarranted wealth and influence of big-pharma and those throughout the government and media that have enriched themselves protecting this monopoly. Clearly this is an outcome many in the media, government, and across the board rooms of big-pharmaceutical corporations across the Western World will fight fanatically to prevent.

For the anti-vaccine movement - it may be wiser to focus on these aspects of the debate rather than be drawn into the false paradigm the media is trying to superimpose upon the issue. It may even be wise to not use the term "anti-vaccine movement," and instead make it an anti-big-pharma movement.

Mebendazole: Another successful cancer treatment ignored by mainstream medicine

telomere
It's no secret that cancer treatment has become its own thriving industry and the money to be made from prescribing cutting edge pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy and radiation treatment is immense. Profit is the paradigm for modern medicine, but as our knowledge of cancer continues to grow we continue to be reminded that many verifiably effective and affordable treatments for cancer exist, but seems to be unwanted or outright prohibited by the medical establishment.

Mebendazole (MBZ) is a commonly found, over-the-counter anti-parasite medication, used most often to rid the body of pinworms. It came into use in 1971, and now retails under a number of product names including Vermox, Ovex, Antiox, Combantrin and Pripsen. Found in most pharmacies and even available online, the drug is widely used, yet very few are aware of the effect it is seen to have in fighting cancerous tumors.

'Nudges' hardly help: The reason there's so much unhealthy eating isn't undisciplined individuals - it's the existence of junk food

Junk food

Can anyone be gently pushed toward a more secure retirement? Or a healthier diet? That's the hope of a growing number of policymakers, economists, and psychologists. They aim to "nudge" people into spending and eating less, while saving and exercising more. Sometimes the nudges are merely informational: A law may require restaurants to reveal the number of calories in items on their menu. Or they can be more direct: A firm might choose to default to enrolling employees in its 401(k) plan. Ordinarily, workers need to opt in to such a plan. But, nudged by a different default setting, they could be required to build retirement savings unless they opt out.

Behavioral economists, who are responsible for the theories that inspired nudging, are the ones most excited about its possibilities. Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein's book Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness has won numerous awards, and influenced both liberal and conservative politicians. Thaler and Sunstein are thrilled that many firms are defaulting employees into retirement-savings plans. They and their many followers are intent on bringing more nudges to areas such as corporate-wellness programs and food labeling.

Comment: How We Became a Society of Gluttonous Junk Food Addicts
While food companies can trot willing doctors, dietitians and nutritionists who claim that eating their brand of poison in moderation can be part of a balanced diet, the companies are like drug dealers who prey on junkies...

The entire food industry, perhaps best described as "eatertainment," has refined the science of taking the cheap commodities pumped out by agribusiness and processing them into foodstuffs that are downright addictive. But food is far more than mere fuel. It is marketed as a salve for our emotional and psychological ills, as a social activity, a cultural outlet and entertainment.

Smoking

E-cigarettes not shown to be a safer alternative to regular cigarettes

e-cigarette
Penn State College of Medicine researchers have found that electronic cigarettes produce highly-reactive free radicals -- molecules associated with cell damage and cancer -- and may pose a health risk comparable or worse than conventional cigarettes.

The use of e-cigarettes is on the rise but research into the effects of e-cigarettes lags behind their popularity. The number of teens and tweens using these products doubled between 2011 and 2012. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 20 percent of young adults have tried e-cigarettes, and current smokers and recent former smokers are most likely to have used them.

E-cigarettes deliver nicotine in water vapor instead of by burning tobacco. The battery-operated devices have been marketed as an alternative to traditional cigarettes. They look like the real thing. The end glows as you inhale. As you exhale, you puff out a cloud of what looks like smoke.

Comment: If you are the smoking type, it would be best to stick to organically grown and additive-free, roll-your-own tobacco to partake of the benefits.

Big Pharma corruption: Mandatory Meningitis Vaccine Bill author, Kemp Hannon, caught taking $420k

vaccination
© Teddyy Kwok
State Senator Kemp Hannon, Chair of the New York Senate Health Committee, and author of the recently passed law that will require all seventh and twelfth graders in the state to get meningitis shots, has been caught with his hand in the pot, according to the New York Daily News: specifically, the pharma pot. And to no small sum, mind you. His investments in pharmaceutical and health companies is at $100,000, while it is also being alleged that he has received more than $400,000 from the same interest groups. Hannon's investments are a direct conflict of interest and he should be charged criminally. This is an act of using your position to influence and write laws for the sole result of personal gain.
Sen. Kemp Hannon (R-Nassau County) in 2014 invested in 14 companies that would fall under his committee's purview.

By comparison, Assembly Health Committee Chairman Richard Gottfried (D-Manhattan) did not report owning any stock in health-related companies. In addition to his investments, Hannon over the past four years also received more than $420,000 from pharmaceutical and other medical interests, records show.

Hannon's office had no comment. On the part of his 2014 state financial disclosure form dealing with investments, he wrote that sales and purchases were "at sole discretion of the broker."

Comment: Senator Hannon is not the first Senator to have direct conflicts of interests when it comes to passing bills that benefit Big Pharma. California Senator Richard Pan's political shenanigans and obvious conflicts of interest are well documented in the passing of controversial vaccination bill SB277 :
  • Undue influence: BigPharma made huge donations to California lawmakers voting on mandatory vaccines
The Sacramento Bee is reporting that State lawmakers behind bill SB277have ties to the makers of vaccines. Pharmaceutical companies and their trade groups gave current members of the Legislature more than $2 million. Nine of the top 20 recipients of these funds are either members of the Senate health committee, or leaders who could influence the outcome of the bill, as well as push it through to law.

One senator, in particular, is also a doctor, Richard Pan, who received more than $95,000 in campaign cash. He also just happens to be the man who wrote the bill.
