It's the age-old problem of men and women having different sensibilities. But fast forward 50 years or so, and Henry Higgins may well have the answer to his problem - antidepressants.
A study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry finds that more than 69% of people on antidepressants aren't actually depressed. They don't meet the criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD). And 38% never met the criteria for other conditions for which antidepressants are prescribed, at any time in their life. These include obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, or generalized anxiety disorder.[i]
People taking the drugs are more likely to suffer from hardening of the arteries, a leading cause of heart problems. In addition, researchers found the drugs block a process that protects the heart. This can "cause, or worsen, heart failure", according to a study.
The lead author says: "I cannot find any evidence to support people taking statins." The findings, published in Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology, will add to the debate surrounding the drugs, which are routinely given to up to 12 million patients in the UK, or around one in four adults.
Supporters say they save lives by lowering cholesterol and UK health regulators say they are safe.
Oxford professor Sir Rory Collins has warned that overstating concerns about statins could "cause very large numbers of unnecessary deaths from heart attacks and stroke".
Opponents have pointed to the side effects, such as skeletal weakness and muscle pain, and say the risks outweigh the benefits.
Comment: What took them so long? Many researchers have stated this before, and before them, there were countless of negative testimonials across the world. There are even documentaries about it. Nevertheless, we're pleased to see how mainstream researchers are speaking out against statin drugs.

This may sound all the more surprising when you consider that over 1,000 clinical trials have been performed, and billions of dollars expended, in order find an effective solution, without any significant progress in reversing the underlying trajectory of the condition.[i]
In fact, some of the very same patented chemicals approved by the FDA to "treat" the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, e.g. donepizl (trade name Aricept), are chemically related to insecticides, chemical weapons and venom, and are notorious for greatly increasing the risk of seizures in those to whom they are prescribed.

Another promising study has recently come out of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). These researchers conducted the very first study where the use of the "relaxation response"was examined in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and the first to investigate the genomic effects of the relaxation response in individuals with any disorder. The report was published in the journal PLOS-ONE. (source)
When it comes to 'prayer' or 'distant healing' — directing human attention on physical systems — significant results have been obtained that warrant further investigation. Comment: Among the numerous relaxation techniques, Éiriú Eolas stands out as one of the few that has immediate effects, and also has a highly practical application. There is no need to sit in special postures, or be present in a carefully prepared relaxing atmosphere. The strength of the program comes from its high adaptability to stressful conditions of the modern world. To learn more about this technique and how you can learn it for free, visit the site here.

The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words - Rei, which can best be defined as higher wisdom or universal and Ki, like chi or qi, is a term used to describe our life-force energy. This hands-on form of spiritual healing manipulates our life-force energy. It is believed that the effectiveness of healing with Reiki is directed by a higher spiritual power that sends this powerful life-giving force to the perfect place within us.
The goal of this alternative health modality is to restore balance and harmony between all the parts of our being. Reiki works to create a state of equilibrium in our life-force energy. It raises the vibration in the body and words to heal and clear its energetic pathways. This allows our life-force energy to begin to flow again. The spiritual healing provided by Reiki promotes health and wellbeing to all of our parts, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The ICU saves lives, but many patients leave with psychological scars. Doctors and psychiatrists are trying to change that.
Over the course of 22 days, as doctors fought to save him from H1N1 influenza, Russo was stuck in nightmare after nightmare. He was in Boston in the 1800s, witnessing plague victims being burned alive. He was in Oz under an orange-gray sky, watching leaves blow over the yellow brick road and knowing the Wizard was coming to kill him. He was on a tropical island with Bruce Springsteen, preparing to be euthanized.
"I watched my son die twice," Russo said in a talk posted on YouTube. "I watched my daughter die four times. One time, I caused her death."
The country was declared free of the virus on 7 November, and the region as a whole was cleared when Liberia was pronounced Ebola-free on Thursday.
Tests on a person who died in northern Sierra Leone proved positive, an Ebola test centre spokesman told the BBC. The WHO has warned, however, that more flare-ups are expected. The Sierra Leone death occurred earlier this week.
Ebola test centre spokesman Sidi Yahya Tunis told the BBC that the patient had died in the Tonkolili district. He had travelled there from Kambia, close to the border with Guinea.
The tests were conducted by British health experts. The BBC's Umaru Fofana in the capital Freetown said health officials were now urgently seeking those who had come into contact with the victim.
Close to 4,000 people have died of Ebola in Sierra Leone, and 11,000 people across the region, since December 2013.
Liberia was the last country to see the end of active transmission of Ebola. But it had been declared clear twice before, only for the infection to re-emerge.
Lots of people use air fresheners and body sprays - almost all of which contain what the ingredients listing coyly describes as "perfume".
All in all, it adds up to quite a fragranced atmosphere - and with little airflow in our increasingly-insulated homes, have you ever wondered what happens to all these perfume chemicals? Well, it seems they could be reacting in the air forming a potentially dangerous cocktail.
The levels of perfume chemicals are regulated inside products, but what we then do with those products is entirely up to us. No one measures air quality inside our houses. Prof Alastair Lewis of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science at the University of York and the team from Trust Me, I'm a Doctor set out to do just that.
Firstly he measured the levels of a whole range of "volatile organic chemicals" (VOCs) in six similar, modern houses in York over the course of five days. The stand-out chemical - varying most among the houses - was limonene. It's commonly used to give a citrus smell. In the three houses that used the most cleaning products, limonene levels were so high that Prof Lewis even had to adjust the sensitivity of the monitors.
Comment: Another ingenious solution to getting rid of limeonene in homes would be to simply not buy fragrances candles, plug-ins, air fresheners and certain types of cleaning products! What a wild idea! If people want to freshen the air, opening the window isn't as impractical as the author makes it sound. And there are alternatives like beeswax candles, essential oil diffusers and air purifiers. Is modern society so enmeshed with toxic household consumerism that such thoughts are verboten?
