'Chronic Lyme disease' treatments can be risky, scathing CDC report finds

Many may recognize the term "chronic Lyme disease," but the treatments may be lesser known and dangerous, according to a new report issued by the CDC.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's latest Morbidity and Mortality report released Friday describes negative, harmful and even deadly treatments for five patients diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease, according to the report.

A diagnosis for chronic Lyme disease does not require any hard evidence. "Patients and their healthcare providers need to be aware of the risks associated with treatments for chronic Lyme disease," the doctors warned in the report.

The different diagnosis of simply "Lyme disease" is based on hard evidence. It is caused by infection with the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, according to the CDC report. Shockingly, however, doctors sometimes come to the conclusion of chronic Lyme disease without any FDA cleared lab testing, or even a negative test for the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato infection.

One person on the Upper East Side died of Legionnaires' disease and six others were sickened by the bacteria-borne illness, officials said Friday.

The Health Department said the person who died was over 90 years old and had "significant underlying health conditions."

Four people were recovering in hospitals and two others were discharged.

"There are no common sources of exposure among these patients other than living in the same area of the city," said Demetre Daskalakis, the Health Department's deputy commissioner for disease control, in an alert to health providers.

All the cases were diagnosed between May 22 and June 8 in Lenox Hill, which covers 60th to 77th Streets between Lexington and Fifth avenues.

Question

Does Parkinson's disease begin in the gut?

brain gut connection

Parkinson's disease, which involves the malfunction and death of nerve cells in the brain, may originate in the gut, new research suggests, adding to a growing body of evidence supporting the idea.

The new study shows that a protein in nerve cells that becomes corrupted and then forms clumps in the brains of people with Parkinson's can also be found in cells that line the small intestine. The research was done in both mice and human cells.

The finding supports the idea that this protein first becomes altered in the gut and then travels to the brain, where it causes the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease is a progressive movement disorder, affecting as many as 1 million people in the United States and 7 million to 10 million people worldwide, according to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

The protein, called alpha-synuclein, is abundant in the brain. And in healthy nerve cells, it dissolves in the fluid within the cell. But in Parkinson's patients, alpha-synuclein folds abnormally. The misfolded protein can then spread through the nervous system to the brain as a prion, or infectious protein. In the brain, the misfolded protein molecules stick to each other and clump up, damaging neurons.

Comment: A low carb, ketogenic diet has been shown to be effective in decreasing the symptoms of Parkinson's disease:
In a small, uncontrolled study, five out of seven people with Parkinson's disease who completed a four-week ketogenic diet experienced a 43% improvement in self-reported symptoms

Detox your mouth for whole body health

dirty and clean teeth
So many of us who are interested in health completely disregard our teeth and our mouths. We forget that our bodies are a holistic and interconnected system, one that can only function optimally if everything is running smoothly. If your liver wasn't working properly, it would affect your entire body. Well, the same could be said about your mouth.

Your mouth is the gateway to your body, which you use to either nourish it with healthy foods or destroy it with toxins. Whatever you put in your mouth ends up affecting your entire body drastically. A cleaner mouth isn't just aesthetically pleasing, it's crucial for your overall health, as it can play a key role in disease prevention. Poor oral health has been linked to inflammation, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.

Risks of Poor Dental Health

More than 500 species of bacteria can be found in the oral cavity of a healthy mouth, and they can be beneficial or harmful for the health of your mouth. The "good" bacteria, also referred to as probiotics, can aid in digestion, synthesize vitamins, and protect our mouths from the "bad" bacteria. The bad bacteria is often what causes disease and various mouth-related health problems such as bad breath, gingivitis, periodontitis, cavities, and plaque build-up.

What is activated charcoal?

activated charcoal
Activated charcoal is expanding into a whole new market. It's used in water filtration, as poison control, and in herbal medicine regularly, but it's increasingly showing up in health and beauty care products. So what is activated charcoal, and why are people suddenly rubbing it all over their teeth?

How is Activated Charcoal Different than Actual Charcoal?

Let's get the biggest issue out of the way. Activated charcoal (also known as activated carbon) is almost but not quite the same thing as actual charcoal (the stuff used for summer grilling). The bulk material used to produce activated charcoal is some combination of bone char, coconut shells, peat, petroleum coke, coal, olive pits, and/or sawdust, while actual charcoal can include all of that plus agricultural waste and other dry biomass.

To create activated charcoal, carbon is heated to temperatures of 1,700 to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit with steam or air in an oxygen-free environment, although wood-based activated charcoals frequently endure a chemical process that includes heat and phosphoric acid as well. The high heat "activates" the charcoal, removing the carbon's volatile compounds and enlarging its internal pores. These enlarged internal pores allow the now activated charcoal to chemically attract and bind contaminants like chlorine, PCBs, industrial solvents, and pesticides, among others.

Question

What drives the vaccine blame game? Illogical fear

vaccination
© The Vaccine Reaction
Why should the vaccinated fear the unvaccinated? Otherwise, what’s the point of vaccination?
The idea that unvaccinated people are to blame for certain infectious disease outbreaks has become a common refrain in the media—mainly due to ignorance and fears fueled by that ignorance. The idea that people who get vaccinated with ineffective or live virus vaccines are playing a role in such outbreaks is much less popular—or well known.

Many of those, who like to point fingers at anyone concerned about the safety of vaccines seem to have this vague notion that, unlike vaccinated people, unvaccinated people carry dangerous hidden microbes that can magically appear at anytime and infect vaccinated people, thus spreading disease. In other words, that unvaccinated people are contaminated, while vaccinated people are not.

Then, there is the obvious fuzzy logic of (supposedly) protected people being infected by unprotected people. That makes no sense. Why should the vaccinated fear the unvaccinated? Otherwise, what's the point of vaccination?

Study: Meditation alters the activity of genes linked to stress and depression

Qigong Institute
© Qigong Institute
Meditation alters the activity of genes linked to stress and depression, a study has shown.

Researchers examined evidence for mind-body interventions (MBIs) such as meditation, yoga and Tai Chi, affecting DNA.

Data from 18 studies involving 846 participants revealed a pattern of molecular changes in the body that benefit mental and physical health.

The key was nothing to do with unblocking Chakras but a gene-regulating stress molecule called nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB).

Under its influence, certain genes switch on a "fight or flight" response to stress which over time can increase the risk of cancer, accelerated ageing, and mental disorders such as depression.

Big Pharma and the mainstream media's colossal false health claims

medical mafia
© Daily Mail
It's no secret that Big Pharma is fueled by profit, often putting business interests ahead of patients' lives and well-being. And North American culture practically worships the pharmaceutical industry, failing to recognize many of the issues within it.

Many Americans are completely unaware that new prescription drugs have a 1 in 5 chance of causing serious reactions, even after being approved, or that Harvard University stated that prescription drugs are the fourth leading cause of death. We're not talking overdosing or misprespcribing; these are drugs that are deemed safe and properly prescribed to patients who simply have an adverse reaction to them.

Despite these facts, people take the risks of pharmaceuticals very lightly, turning to them when they're sick only to provide a "bandaid" effect, covering up the symptoms rather than treating and preventing the root cause. The public isn't entirely to blame for their ignorance; Big Pharma paints a perfect image of themselves, making false claims and highlighting the "benefits" of drugs while minimizing the potential risks associated with them (or printing them in extremely small font sizes).

Cleanse your lymphatic system with vigorous walking

lymphatic system
Your lymphatic system likes sunsets and long walks on the beach. Are you ready to take it out? Because that's the best way to cleanse it.

The Lymphatic System

Lymph is a colorless liquid in the human body that contains white blood cells, covers your bodily tissues and drains into the bloodstream through a network of vessels that form the lymphatic system. It sounds pretty complex, but cleansing the lymphatic system is much easier than you think.

Regularly cleansing this system is also important because this system helps to remove toxins and waste from your body. You will want to keep this system in tip top shape.

No need for complex exercises, intensive massages, detoxification protocols, New Age therapies or any other costly, peculiar solution. Simply go for a 20 to 30 minute vigorous walk. That's all there is to it!
