For the last several years, and some say longer, the Magic Valley has been under some sort of siege.

"I would describe it as something similar to a sonic boom," said one resident.

"There's an audible boom and then it shakes," said another.

"It's like this weird errrrrrrr," described yet another.

From Buhl to Burley these "booms" have been best described as a bunch of audible and feel-able, sensations.

"It just sounds like boooosh and then like mooooossh," said Chelsie Skroback, waving her arms back and forth in short motions. "It's more like this is the best sound I can give you which is my hands moving. That's kind of what it seems like."

Flooding has affected a total of 74 districts, 113,900 households, and 385,498 people. DDPM said that at least 5 people have lost their lives in the flooding. The deaths occurred in Songkhla (2), Pattani (2) and Yala.

A number of provinces have declared disaster zones in various districts. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is working with the Royal Irrigation Department to synchronize the water discharges in order to minimize damage.

This Black Vulture was first spotted in Burgeo on Nov.18.
When Ken Knowles saw a photo of a Black Vulture turn up in the Newfoundland Birdwatching Group on Facebook, he thought it must have been posted by someone from outside the province.

Then he read the text.

"I immediately went into a panic," said Knowles, who has been an avid birdwatcher for the past 45 years. "Then I started scheming about how I was going to get to see this bird."

The photo had been taken on Nov. 18 by Burgeo resident Mitchell Billard, who was looking for help identifying the strange-looking bird that was sitting on his roof.

-60 °C reported in Oymyakon, Eastern Siberia, Russia last night. Pretty cold! [This, of course is unofficial; the official figure at the same time is -55 °C - still very cold]
As mild temperatures encompass a large swath of the contiguous United States this week, parts of Siberia are experiencing temperatures colder than minus 60 degrees Fahrenheit - and it's only November.

A low temperature of minus 69 degrees [fahrenheit] was recorded early Tuesday in Delyankir, Russia. This is colder than the all-time record lows in every U.S. state except Utah (-69 degrees), Montana (-70 degrees) and Alaska (-80 degrees).

If that wasn't incredible enough, the daytime high in Delyankir Tuesday failed to rise above -60 degrees.

Earth moves for residents of Darwin, Australia as earthquake strikes in the Banda Sea more than 700km away

TERRITORIANS felt the earth shake under them today as an earthquake struck in the Banda Sea - more than 700km away.

The 5.7 magnitude quake was felt in Darwin just before 10am.

Geoscience Australia senior seismologist Phil Cummins said the quake was about 160km below the earth's surface and did not pose a tsunami threat.

"It's too small and too deep to be concerned about a tsunami. And we never know about other earthquakes. There might be aftershocks," he said.

He said there had been up to 30 reports from people in Darwin having felt the tremors.

He said it was unusual for an earthquake to be felt hundreds of kilometres away.

However, he said it was not unknown for the effects of earthquakes' to 'carry' in this region.

"It would be surprising for an earthquake to be felt that far away but we know the path between the Banda Sea and Darwin appears to be particularly efficient for the transmission of the seismic waves," he said.

He said he had not heard of any damage to towns in the area in Indonesia where it had hit.
