Winterlike weather pattern tightens grip on U.S. Northeast, unloading snow in some areas

Winter is making a mid-May comeback in the northeastern United States early this week as snow returned to some areas with cold and rainy weather in other parts of the region.

The same storm that brought several rounds of severe weather and flooding rainfall to the south-central U.S. last week is bringing downright raw weather to the Northeast.

Mother's Day turned out to be a washout in much of the mid-Atlantic and southern New England, with rain and drizzle accompanying temperatures more typical of mid-March than the middle of May.

Calf rescued from 40 ft. deep sinkhole in Warren County, Kentucky

Emergency responders in Warren County had their hands full Sunday evening after a calf got stuck in a sinkhole.

According to the Warren County Emergency Management Department, rescuers from the Alvaton and Gott Fire Departments were called out to a farm in Alvaton after a calf fell into a 40 ft. deep sinkhole.

After several hours of trying to figure out how to rescue the calf, it was successfully hauled out of the sinkhole and reunited with its mother, making it a Mother's Day to remember.

Northern Lights are usually green, sometimes red. Those are the colors we see when oxygen is hit by electrons raining down from space during a geomagnetic storm. On Friday night, May 11, 2019, however, Harlan Thomas of Calgary, Alberta, witnessed a different color: DEEP BLUE

Harlan Thomas: "To see these incredible blue pillars was out of this world," says Thomas.

In auroras, blue is a sign of nitrogen. Energetic particles striking ionized molecular nitrogen (N2+) at very high altitudes can produce a blue glow rarely seen during auroral displays. In this case, it was the afterglow of a CME impact.

The CME left the sun on May 6th, propelled in our direction by an explosion in the magnetic canopy of sunspot AR2740. When it finally arrived on May 10th, the slow-moving storm cloud rattled Earth's magnetic field, triggering a minor G1-class geomagnetic storm. Auroras were sighted in parts of Canada as well as US States such as Michigan and Minnesota.

As the Mississippi River continues to rise, officials opened the Bonnet Carré Spillway on Friday. Never before has the spillway been opened twice in the same year.

The Army Corps of Engineers opened the Bonnet Carré Spillway Friday afternoon, May 10. This is the fourteenth operation of the structure since 1937, and the first time it has been opened twice during the same high-water event. The spillway was first opened this year on Feb. 27.

The decision to open Bonnet Carré was issued by Maj. Gen. Richard G. Kaiser, commander of the Mississippi Valley Division in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Maj. Gen. Richard "Rick" Kaiser, Commander, Mississippi Valley Division (US Army Corps of Engineers) and President of the Mississippi River Commission, briefed the public on the opening of the Bonnet Carre' Spillway.

"This is the wettest we've been in 124 years," said Maj. Kaiser.

The spillway, located about 12 miles west of New Orleans, diverts floodwaters from the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico via farmlands and Lake Pontchartrain instead of passing near New Orleans and other river communities.

Toxic smoke hangs over Mexico City as wildfires burn

The government of Mexico City has issued alerts for poor air quality since Friday as a result of a series of forest fires that have broken out in and around the most populated city in North America.

Outdoor activities were affected during the course of the weekend, and continues, due to a dense layer of smoke that has enveloped much of the city. Videos posted on social media showed how dense the smoke was that hung in the air over Mexico's capital city.

The situation is especially dangerous because, as reported by the Ministry of the Environment, the air is contaminated with high levels of ash particles, which can cause respiratory problems and other diseases by inhalation.

While the World Meteorological Organization keeps pushing the global warming swindle, claiming that 2018 was the warmest year on record, and the MET office claiming that April 22 was the hottest Easter Monday ever, reality hits hard with record cold temperatures and snowfall around the world... well into spring.

As the solar minimum intensifies, temperatures plummet. Unusually cold April temperatures affected more than 100 million people just in the US as the planting season took a serious hit around the world. The result is that farmers are going bankrupt in the US while in North Korea and China food production is suffering massive loses.

Spain, Portugal, Italy and Germany were also hit by unseasonable snowfalls, meanwhile French vineyards froze, compromising this year's wine production. Africa was also hit by unusually low temperatures with Algeria and Morocco covered in snow this month. In the Southern Hemisphere, Western Australia had the coldest April day ever due to a huge antarctic front. The cold also interfered with wheat production in the country, with harvests hitting an 11 year low.

Record rain and floods in the Middle East not only promoted desert blooms at a very odd time of the year, but also wreaked havoc on the human population with thousands displaced in Iran and Afghanistan.

Two mayor earthquakes hit this April, a 6.3 M in the Philippines that left eight people dead, and a 6.1 M in Taiwan that left 17 people injured.

Windstorms have also been intensifying in unusual places as the jet streams continues its chaotic meandering, both China and Pakistan suffered the consequences this month.

Cow gores man to death in Ahmedabad, India - 2 days after similar fatality in the area

Two days after a 50-year-old woman Paru Madrasi, was gored by a stray cow near the Odhav Canal, a 62-year-old man, Gopinath Tiwari, a resident of Vinobabhavenagar was gored and trampled to death by a cow on Saturday morning.

The animal's onslaught on Tiwari lasted for about 20 minutes, and ended with him falling unconscious and slipping into death while being taken to hospital, eyewitnesses said.

Eyewitnesses said they tried to chase the cow away with sticks and even threw stones at her, but she continued to gore and trample Tiwari. "After about 20 minutes the cow finally ran away. We called emergency services, but he died before he could be taken to LG Hospital," said an eye witness.

Snow could be seen on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Blandford, Mass., on Sunday.
Reports of snow falling on some parts of Massachusetts wasn't a joke, after all, it is Mother's Day and not April Fools' Day.

The National Weather Service in Albany said there were reports of snowfall in the southern and central Berkshires. There were also reports of sleet and snow mixing with rain in the northern Litchfield Hills.

Slick spots on the Massachusetts Turnpike forced authorities to reduce the speed limit on the highway in the area. There was sleet in the Otis to Russell areas, the National Weather Service said. There were some crashes on the Mass. Pike due to the weather.

Snow could continue in parts of the Berkshires until the afternoon.

People were noticeably annoyed and surprised with the May 12 snow.

A storm system plaguing parts of the southern U.S. for almost a week brought nearly 13 inches of rain to southern Mississippi on Saturday, causing widespread flash flooding and prompting a flash flood emergency on Saturday evening.

Six states have seen locations with over 6 inches of rain in the last week: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mississippi.

There were also at least 47 reports of severe weather from Louisiana to Virginia, including two reported tornadoes in the latter.
