Britons are enjoying the hottest day of the year so far as forecasters predict a glorious spring week ahead.

Thousands of people flocked to beaches as temperatures matched those in Italy and Greece.

In parts of eastern England thermometers hit 59F (15C), making it one of the hottest places in Europe.

Weathermen said the burst of spring sunshine will bring even higher temperatures over the next few days and the warm spell will last until Thursday.

Coastal areas of Devon and Cornwall were packed with crowds normally seen at the height of summer.

Flashback Sea-level rise will be less than 3 inches (7 cm), not 7 meters

As a contributor to the IPCC's 2007 report, I share the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore. Yet I and many of my peers in the British House of Lords - through our hereditary element the most independent-minded of lawmakers - profoundly disagree on fundamental scientific grounds with both the IPCC and my co-laureate's alarmist movie An Inconvenient Truth, which won this year's Oscar for Best Sci-Fi Comedy Horror.

Two detailed investigations by Committees of the House confirm that the IPCC has deliberately, persistently and prodigiously exaggerated not only the effect of greenhouse gases on temperature but also the environmental consequences of warmer weather.

My contribution to the 2007 report illustrates the scientific problem. The report's first table of figures - inserted by the IPCC's bureaucrats after the scientists had finalized the draft, and without their consent - listed four contributions to sea-level rise. The bureaucrats had multiplied the effect of melting ice from the Greenland and West Antarctic Ice Sheets by 10.

Copenhagen Climate Summit Seeks Global Political Submission

A three-day conference on climate science and policy that drew some 2,500 scientists, economists, campaigners, dignitaries, industry representatives and journalists to Copenhagen has wrapped up, and organizers have issued a list of core "messages" that you can see at the bottom of this post. Their bottom line, echoing what many climate scientists have been saying with rising vigor for two decades, is that there is an urgent need to curb emissions of greenhouse gases, and "inaction is inexcusable."

Is this effort, which one organizer described as "a deliberate attempt to influence policy," likely to change things? There are signs, some scientists warned on Thursday, that overheated descriptions of looming dangers coming out of the conference could actually backfire. More on those warnings is below.

Comment: The wave of propaganda from this so called Climate Congress is astounding. Here are just a few of the stories that the worldwide propaganda machine grabbed onto:

Propaganda: Global temperatures 'will rise 6C this century'
Propaganda: Global warming 'will be worse than expected' warns Stern
Propaganda: Amazon could shrink by 85% due to climate change, scientists say
Propaganda: Sea Levels May Rise Faster Than Expected
Propaganda: Warming Could Cut Population to 1 Billion
Propaganda: Scientists are grim, economists more optimistic about climate change's effects
Propaganda: Make clear dire scenarios to prod climate action
Propaganda: Scientists plan emergency summit on climate change

Propaganda: Global temperatures 'will rise 6C this century'

Surging global greenhouse gas emissions mean the world now faces likely temperature rises of up to 5-6C this century, according to the scientist leading the international Climate Congress in Copenhagen this week.

Professor Katharine Richardson, who chaired the scientific steering committee for the conference, said it was now almost impossible for the world to achieve the UN target of preventing global temperature rise exceeding 2C.

"We can forget about the 2C"," said Richardson in an interview. "We are now facing the situation where we have to avoid a 5-6C rise in temperature."

Richardson said her comments were based on sifting through hundreds of science research papers submitted to the congress. Details of the research are being presented to delegates this week and will be used in a report for the UN.

Her comments were not the only bad news to emerge on the first day of the International Scientific Congress on Climate Change (IPCC) in Copenhagen. Other researchers warned that sea levels are now rising 50% faster than suggested by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in its 2007 report.

Comment: The ISCCC 'International Scientific Congress on Climate Change' or Climate Change Congress in Copenhagen is not the IPCC. It is not backed or supported by the IPCC and is in fact a political gathering backed by a group of 10 Universities designed to specifically promote the cause of Anthropogenic Global Warming in the most extreme fear mongering way possible. That these journalists and the Times UK would slip that subliminal in that it is the (IPCC) is just downright devious and shows their hand in the fear mongering propaganda.

Propaganda: Global warming 'will be worse than expected' warns Stern

Politicians have failed to take on board the severe consequences of failing to cut world carbon emissions, Nicholas Stern, the economist who warned the government of the high cost of climate change, said today.

Stern told a meeting of climate change scientists in Copenhagen that the effects of global warming would be worse than he predicted in his seminal 2006 report on the economics of the problem. He said policy-makers needed to think more about the likely impact of severe temperature rises of 6C or more.

Speaking after a keynote speech at the conference, Stern said: "Do the politicians understand just how difficult it could be? Just how devastating 4, 5, 6 degrees centigrade would be? I think not yet. Looking back, the Stern review underestimated the risks and underestimated the damage from inaction."

His remarks echo concerns by other scientists at the meeting. Privately, many climate experts and officials say that the European target of limiting world temperature rise to 2C above pre-industrial levels is no longer realistic.

Global warming will wreck attempts to save the Amazon rainforest, according to a devastating new study which predicts that one-third of its trees will be killed by even modest temperature rises.

The research, by some of Britain's leading experts on climate change, shows that even severe cuts in deforestation and carbon emissions will fail to save the emblematic South American jungle, the destruction of which has become a powerful symbol of human impact on the planet. Up to 85% of the forest could be lost if spiralling greenhouse gas emissions are not brought under control, the experts said. But even under the most optimistic climate change scenarios, the destruction of large parts of the forest is "irreversible".

Propaganda: Sea Levels May Rise Faster Than Expected

Copenhagen - By the end of the century, sea levels may rise twice as much as was predicted two years ago in the fourth assessment report by the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

This means that the lives of some 600 million people living on low-lying islands, as well as those living in Southeast Asia's populous delta areas, will be put at serious risk if climate change is not quickly and radically mitigated.

These conclusions, presented yesterday by a group of scientists hailing from several countries, dominated day one of the International Scientific Congress on Climate Change, organized by the University of Copenhagen and other members of the International Alliance of Research Universities. An estimated 2,000 people are attending the event.

Propaganda: Warming Could Cut Population to 1 Billion

Copenhagen - A scientist known for his aggressive stance on climate policy made an apocalyptic prediction on Thursday.

Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, said that if the buildup of greenhouse gases and its consequences pushed global temperatures 9 degrees Fahrenheit higher than today - well below the upper temperature range that scientists project could occur from global warming - Earth's population would be devastated. [UPDATED, 6:10 p.m: The preceding line was adjusted to reflect that Dr. Schellnhuber was not describing a worst-case warming projection. h/t to Joe Romm.]
"In a very cynical way, it's a triumph for science because at last we have stabilized something - - namely the estimates for the carrying capacity of the planet, namely below 1 billion people," said Dr. Schellnhuber, who has advised German Chancellor Angela Merkel on climate policy and is a visiting professor at Oxford.

Global population reduction to a 'manageable level' of around 1 billion just happens to be the goal of the psychopathic eugenics movement that formed the false science of global warming. William Engdahl's Seeds of Destruction provides detailed background to the plan for the 'culling of the herd.'

Propaganda: Scientists are grim, economists more optimistic about climate change's effects

Copenhagen - Scientists are gloomy; economists are more upbeat. Such was the bottom line of an epic, three-day international congress of climate change experts that ended here yesterday.

At the congress, it seemed that all the scientists had to share with their peers was bad news, but a number of economists saw the climate crisis rather as an historic opportunity to reorganize the world economy and develop new, clean and job-creating activities.

At the opening of yesterday's session, Lord Nicholas Stern, former chief economist for the World Bank, added his own dose of gloom by saying that his now-famous report on the risks of global warming, written for the British government in 2006, had underestimated them. "The reason is that emissions are growing faster than we thought, the absorption capacity of the planet is less than we thought, the probability of high temperatures is likely higher than we thought, and some of the effects are coming faster than we thought," he explained.

Propaganda: Make clear dire scenarios to prod climate action

Copenhagen - Scientists must make clear the disastrous effects of climate change so the world takes action now to cut carbon emissions, leading economist Nicholas Stern said on Thursday.

"You have to tell people very clearly and strongly just how difficult (a temperature rise of) four, five, six or seven degrees Celsius is," he said.

"Billions of people would have to move and there would be very severe conflict," said Stern, a professor at the London School of Economics and a former British Treasury economist.

"That's a story that must be told to persuade people it's a very bad idea to go anywhere near five degrees. This is not a black swan, this is a big probability of a devastating outcome," he told a gathering of 2,000 scientists at the Congress on Climate Change in Copenhagen.

"The costs of delay are very big," he said.
