New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed that a lifeguard in Berkeley Township was killed in the afternoon.
It marked the second death of a young lifeguard at the Jersey Shore in a little over a week.
Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy said the others were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The incident took place in Jakjore village under Basia police station this evening, they said.
Durga Singh (45) and his daughter Pushpa Kumari (18) died on the spot after being struck by lightning in the field, police official (Basia), Vikash Anand Laguri, said.
Durga Singh's wife Sahodara Devi, daughters Bharti Kumari (8) and Punita Kumari (5), and a two-month-old infant were injured, he said, adding, they were rushed to a hospital.
The coach of a Bulgarian football team has been fatally struck by lightning during a match.
The state news agency BTA reported that the deadly incident happened on Sunday during a friendly game between the teams of Lessichovo and Chernogorova — two villages in central Bulgaria.
Ivan Ranchev, the 41-year-old coach of the visiting team, was killed on the spot by a bolt of lightning when a heavy thunderstorm hit the village shortly after the game started.
An ambulance was sent immediately, but medics could only confirm his death.
Indonesia's disaster agency Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB) reported flooding and landslides in North Luwu, Wajo, Soppeng and Bone regencies in South Sulawesi from 28 August 2021. In some areas flood water was 2 metres deep.
As of 30 August, a total of 14,175 families or 62,860 people were affected. Furthermore, 12,763 houses were damaged, along with bridges, roads, schools, medical centres and other public buildings.
Two landslides struck in areas of Kabanjahe District in Karo Regency late on 26 August 2021. Heavy rain also caused mudflows in Tiganderket District. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
According to disaster authorities in Indonesia, the landslides in Kabanjahe damaged or destroyed 7 houses. Five people died in the incident while 4 people were injured.
More than 23,000 people had to be evacuated to safety, and in some parts of the sprawling municipality of Chongqing, in southwestern China, water levels reportedly rose at a speed of about 30-40cm (12-15 inches) per hour.
A provincial highway was flooded in the municipality's Hechuan district, and its Chengkou county reported the highest maximum peak flow in 20 years on the Ren River. Local authorities activated their highest-level flood control response on August 29.
Biologists monitoring the whale say it "seems to be struggling," according to the MERR Institute. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is working with partners in the region to develop a response plan "which includes options for palliative care, sedation, or euthanasia."
The whale first showed up in Lewes on Thursday, stranded on a sandbar. It was able to swim back out to sea but later became beached on the ocean side of The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park, where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean.
